Is my hardware enough for MFS2024?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My name is Josala, I live in Barcelona, Catalonia.

I am a FSX user and I want to buy MFS2024, but I need to know if my hardware is enough to make it work well, since the processor is a bit old:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU  3.40 GHz  -  Ram: 16Gb - Graphics:  RX590 Fatboy 8G

Thanks in advance

Josala

As far as I know, no specific hardware requirements have been published for this planned new sim that is to be released for sale in 2024? But yes indeed many of us are waiting for that info.

As noted above, we don't know what the system requirements are for MSFS 2024 yet and, even more importantly, how the sim runs on those specs. On the other hand, I doubt the requirements are going to be lower than those for MSFS 2020, so you could start there for an idea. Looking at the specs you posted, your CPU is at the lower end.

It depends on your expectations. I also ran an i7-3770 witha GTX1660 for a while. My rolution was 1080p Ultrawide (about 30% more taxing than regular 1080p). My settings were a mix of med-high with an occasional Ultra setting.

I found complex aircraft and high-traffic areas (such as big airports, NYC, London, etc), dragged performance down to the low 20 FPS. Otherwise, during landing and takeoff I was usually limited by the CPU, and during cruise by the GPU. Since landing and takeoff is where you need smoother framepacing the most, I would focus on upgrading the CPU first.

Edit:

I would also say, try the FS2020 with the gamepass trial for $1 (don't know how much that is in your local currency). If you're satisifed with the performance of the sim, there's a good chance that you'll be ok with FS2024.

Bit of a bump but just wondering now MS have announced the end of support for Win 10 next year, if this likely means FS2024 will be Win 11 only.

Going to leave a lot of people in the boat of needing a new PC as neither my desktop or laptop pass the Win 11 compatibility test so a new rig will be required to run this regardless, if that's the case.

Necessary hardware for MSFS 2024 remains an unknown. I would presume the new software will seek to take advantage of the most recent operating systems and drivers? My current desktop upgraded from Win 10 to Win 11 without issue when 11 was introduced 3 years ago, with Win 12 planned for this year if memory serves. I can't recall all the times I've had to upgrade to a new PC over the 40+ years I've been gaming but reckon it will happen again sooner rather than later-lol

Im gonna guess its gonna be the same as 2020 seeing as it will be supported by series x and series s

but idk, gonna have to finance a computer if it is going to be possible for me.

The latest blurb with release date seems to indicate Win 10 still supported but TBH with the O/S now officially on Death Row with DOE October (?) next year, those of us with hardware that can't be updated to Win 11 are now having to start talking nicely to our spouses regarding £1200 or thereabouts out of the savings for a new box. I don't want to be doing online banking and other e-commerce on a PC not getting security updates.

Vern, last January I bought a pre-built Windows 11 gaming PC for the first time because it was cheaper than buying the parts separately at that time. I've upgraded the original NVME SSD from 1TB to 2TB since, but that's all - I should have done it YEARS ago!

I used to go down the upgrade road Tim, but got burned on the last attempt by a faulty motherboard which the supplier claimed I had damaged and refused the RMA. Besides my current PC is an absolute potato and can’t be upgraded any more. About the only things I could salvage are the mechanical HD’s, the case and the DVD drive. So better to look at new builds.

PC Specialist used to be the go to place for a custom build but have gone really expensive, probably because they are now allied with Curry’s. Overclockers UK and Scan are the other two companies I might take a look at. OCUK have a “Graphite” PC for £1200 but is only 16Gb of RAM, 1 x 1Tb SSD and no DVD drive which I still need for older games and ripping CD’s to my MP3 player.

I got mine from ADMI on Amazon UK, you'd have to transplant your DVDRW because they're supplied without optical drives these days.
