That's actually what we used to call VMFAT-401. The Yuma Lawn-Dart Assn. :p

I mean, really, have you ever really looked at a Kfir? Very strong family resemblence there.

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!

GadS! The drag coefficient on those overbearing, long honkin' wings has got to be unbearable. This thing doesn't need flaps with those wings. Blow on those things hard enough and it'll fly on it's own, with no motor. Somebody would have to trim those things down to get any kind of appreciable speed out of it.:pilot:

Speaking of France, I wonder if people know for what he is famous :pilot: (?)

Likely for being the first to cross the English Chanel by air :):):) (it's Blériot thus a French did that deed!)

Yes, the weather was rough, adding in the wind too, AND he lost his bearings long enough to make anybody panic. "Soon after, inclement weather began to form, with the Channel becoming rougher. Blériot lost sight of landmarks, and rapidly outpaced the destroyer escort. He stated: "I am alone. I can see nothing at all. For ten minutes, I am lost."

Fortunately, he held his coarse long enough to see the famous white Cliffs of Dover. ALSO, somebody else from France was the FIRST TO ATTEMPT the crossing and was one of the two competitors of Blèriot, also from France, and when you talk about ditching an aircraft, and learning to do it if you have to, such as in the Navy, or wherever, this man set the precedence:

latham2345.jpg In fact, it appears that a motor kept him from Blèriot's record. So then, he takes a cigarette break. I just had a thought of the Russian pilot who ejected right before his Mig-29 or Su-27, can't remember which, hit the ground. I didn't remember seeing his parachute open. Later he walks over to the aircraft, lights up a cigarette, and kinda walks around and looks at what's left of the aircraft. It's one of the coolest things I ever saw. Just like he had a smoke break during this famous incident in the English Channel: latham.jpg

.. and this is for real? An actual shot of these kids seeing him coming in? Their caption says "Blériot in Flight". According to this:

SI-2008-3762-A.jpg.jpg

..

"Four children watch a Blériot XI in flight from a beach. The original French caption seems to indicate that the aircraft is being piloted by Louis Blériot himself.

Original French caption: Le monoplan XI de Bleriot pique droit vers la côte anglaise. (Blériot's monoplane XI heads right for the English coast.)"

I got this from the Smithsonian thing here..https://airandspace.si.edu/collection-objects/untitled-bleriots-monoplane-flight what beach, where?
