CFS2 Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat No. 10 VF-27, USS Princeton, October 24, 1944. Painted over Scott Johnson's F6F-3 overhauled model. Pilot: Ens. Paul E. Drury. On October 24, 1944 this aircraft was not flown by its regular pilot, Paul E. Drury. The scramble to get into the air was such that the pilots took whatever aircraft was serviceable and the closest to the pilot. Ens. O.L. Scott flew this aircraft that day, and was shot down and killed (the only pilot to die in the air battle that day). Drury, in the "borrowed" aircraft shot down three more fighters on that day.
