The aircraft had the "Southern Cross" tail design and "Ansett New Zealand" titles from 1988 and was part of a 7 aircraft Dash8-100 fleet. The aircraft operated up and down the country between Auckland in the north and as far south as Te Anau with stops variously at Rotorua, Palmerston North, Christchurch, Glentanner, Mt Cook, Queenstown and Milford Sound along the way.
