andyjohnston
I've decided to repeat something I did before, I'm going to travel around the world in my trusty B-17. I started from runway 4 at La Guardia in NYC And had to get a shot of Manhattan as I headed out. Spent way too much time using these sims... andyjohnston
From Chicago, I flew over Minneapolis and landed to refuel in Grand Forks. Then flew over Calgary, across the mountains (nothing to show through any of that) and landed in Vancouver. Spent way too much time using these sims... andyjohnston
I waited until a few hours before dawn (sim time) to leave Vancouver. I headed up the coast to make a landing at the add-on airport of Mountain Top, which sits right on the Canada-US border. I didn't need to refuel but did it anyways. From there I headed west toward Anchorage, but as I was approaching it I realized I had all sorts of fuel left, so I pushed on toward Hooper Bay, and even when I got there I had lots of fuel left. Next I'll be crossing over to Russia where there aren't a lot of nav-aids to use to guide myself, it'll be one of the more dangerous parts of this endeavor. See you in the next post! flightsimg
Don't get lost over Russia. Only two simmers here could help you: Peer, and me, which I think couldn't be of much avail in either case :):) Gérard Guichard, Dijon, Burgundy, France. i5 Intel processor, 4 Go of Ram, Nvidia GeForce 920MX, DirectX 12.0, and FSX Gold Edition with SP1, SP2. andyjohnston
From Alaska I headed out over the water to Russia. Luckily, I had stored some extra fuel so that when I ran out I could pump it into the tanks. Ya...that's it... Then from Russia I turned south and into Japan where I eventually made my way to Tokyo And then on to Hiroshima. I took a break from my trip to rent a helicopter and go visit the Peace Memorial. andyjohnston
I went from Hiroshima to Seoul, and then on to Shanghai. Then I flew to Hong Kong. Son I landed and exited the runway... "The Program has Stopped Responding" Grrr... So I made the flight again. While I was coming in towards the field, my co-pilot grabbed a few pics (full disclosure, my co-pilot is also me...) andyjohnston
I want to get the opinions of readers here. My aim is to avoid the Middle East as much as possible, which means either going north through Eastern Europe, or south through Africa. If I go through Europe I'll see Berlin and Amsterdam, but if I come up through Africa I'll see Italy, and probably Gibraltar. Which do you vote for? andyjohnston
Update: From Hong Kong, I made my way towards the Himalayas and Mt Everest And landed in Kathmandu. andyjohnston
Who knows what an omen is? I should have paid more attention. From Dubai I went to Kuwait City, Tel Aviv and then on to Cairo. I thought I'd rent a helicopter and go visit the pyramids, but there weren't any available. So instead I found a 172 which was incredibly cheap! I learned why. As I rolled for takeoff, I realized the flaps weren't working. Not a big deal, the B-17 takes off with the flaps up, so I went ahead. Once airborne, I realized I had no vertical speed indicator, and the right aileron didn't work. The attitude indicator failed partway through the flight. It was only as I landed that I noticed there were no brakes and I had to coast to stop. Spent way too much time using these sims... andyjohnston
From Gibraltar I went to Madrid, and then Paris. It was my plan to stop there, but since I still had so much fuel I decided to push on to London. One more flight will take me to the north of the UK and then I'll make the dangerous 3-part voyage across the Atlantic. Spent way too much time using these sims...
