I assume you run both FS9 and FSX? If so, can you say why you want to learn certain aspects of two very similar FS apps? As you probably know, FSX is an updated version, with slightly better graphics, more sophisticated freeware and payware aircraft and scenery, among other improvements.

oneleg: I actually downloaded the RealAir Turbine Duke yesterday for a first-hand look. It's an interesting aircraft, and not that easy to fly right off the bat. (Reading the docs helped quite a bit). Though it's not as sexy as the Carenado Diamond that I recently purchased, I'll certainly be flying the Duke from time to time. (Surprisingly, it has a 30,000 feet ceiling!). Thanks for the tip...

Sorry to hear about your Alienware misfortune... Don't know why should have to move the power supply to "clean" the PC though? Also, if you don't already have it, get a can of compressed air to blow out dust or grit from the innards of the PC - it come with a long plastic straw - this avoids the need to touch any components. Actually, you can never have quite enough RAM because the computer caches (holds some in reserve) from the actual stated number... Plus, if you ever want to use your PC for another flight sim app (say, the future release of MSFS2020), you may want more RAM already installed...

I would definitely go with 16G's of RAM - not that much more $'s, and you won't be sorry... I'm curious how your Alienware "died" after just three months... Was it not under warranty?

Holy cow! If FS4 is on a floppy disc or even diskette, than you must have a really, really old PC... But I actually started this crazy little hobby on MSFS Ver. I - of which I have some found memories of the red lines representing the cockpit and the gauges....

If xbox only: Never pc: Probably, but not if i have to get a cray to run it (starting with msfs ver. I, purchased every version since 1985, except ms95) most certainly not with a subscription

Perhaps your rig may actually be ready for MSFS 2020? But, good luck in whatever sim gets you up into the clouds...

I love eye candy like everyone else here (esp. the photo real stuff offered in the recent MS videos). But I mostly fly the "tubes" at 37,000. So most of the detailed scenery is on take-off and landing, except for weather effects. However, I am excited about a probable PC sim by MS, but --- I will likely never purchase an X-BOX for flight simming...

Hope this new MS platform is for PC's as well - but, if it's only for X-Box - well, I don't care if you can actually smell the jet fuel, I'm not buying it...

Only my opinion: Delay gratification, save-up more money, and get a little better system than $150 bucks will get ya...

I have FSX-Steam: A few aircraft I've D/L recently for FSX contain gauges from FS98!. I get a pop-up indicating those out-dated gauges and then I get a CTD. Why do freeware developers include such gauges in aircraft meant for FSX? Is it laziness on their part? Do they not test their uploads before release? I'm fully aware how many, many hours it takes to create freeware aircraft and other add-ons, and I've always appreciated those efforts over the years. So I really hate to criticize them - but this is just to to let them know of this glaring problem in uploads...

Seems like a good price for all that as I've always thought Alienware was a bit overpriced (in part due to their eye candy PC towers). But get a 500gig SSD now rather than later. And, welcome back to to our little virtual hobby...

FS2002? That certainly brings back fond memories. The graphics were a revelation at the time. And the nacelles were finally getting rounder. Plus. I still had all my hair...

I've stated this in the two rival Forums before: For about the price of an upscale hamburger, you can now install FSX-Stream and avoid all the hassles of the CD's, please some of the inherent problems of the MS 2006 version. Plus, always backup every FSX folder that contains downloaded add-ons...

Every time I read in this Forum that someone had a huge problem after a Windows 10 update, I immediately start-up FSX-Steam to see if mine still works. It does work, with no apparent problems that Iv'e ever encountered. Windows 10 just did a huge update on my PC yesterday, taking more than 15 minutes to complete. Again, I can see no problems with right now with FSX. I bought a Cyberpower gaming PC in November, 2015 with Win 10 pre-installed (It included a Win 10 re-install disc). In the early days of a Windows 10 update, I found that some of my apps were deleted afterwards. These apps were mostly other word processors, (in competition with MS Word?), or some other utility programs. However, I guess after numerous complaints, Microsoft put a halt to that practice(?). My biggest complaint with Win 10 updates is that a majority of the updated files are related to MS products or apps OTHER than the actual Windows 10 platform. I think we should have some choice to opt out of updating certain apps we do not use. Somehow though, I don't think MS would ever give us that option...

I, like most members of the flight sim community, eagerly await the next freeware uploads on a daily basis. (I've also spent a considerable amount on payware over the years). But, like many wives complain "Honey, you don't pay me enough complements anymore" All the same, we certainly appreciate our wives; just don't tell them often enough. Same as for freeware: We just don't tell the them how much we appreciate their efforts, and the long hours needed produce something worthy of uploading... As far as feedback goes, a lot of that already exists in the form of complaining and nit-picking on both freeware and payware products on the two main site forums. I suppose that counts as feedback too. So, kudos to all who have contributed so mightily to our virtual hobby!

Ah, another four-year old query: But aren't we all are still searching for the answer?
