  1. At the very least, you should amp-up the power to say 800 to 850 watts...
  2. Most certainly get a hard drive with a much bigger capacity like 2 TB's - and perhaps an additional SSD card with 500 GB's. With the new MSFS 2020 on the horizon, you may be glad you did someday...
  3. When I clicked on the FSpilotshop web site, it went to Godaddy.com: Said FSpilotshop.com was" parked" there and that the site was for sale? That does not bode to well for anyone needing their support. (I personally never purchased any of their products).
  4. Go with hassle-free and low-cost FSX-Steam... (I've used it for the last four years).
  5. Assuming this will be a desktop? Consider getting at least a 2TB HD and a 500gb SSD... I bought a CyberPowerPC gaming PC exactly 4 years ago - and have no problems with it: Back then got the Intel 6700k. It cost about $1,400, w/o the monitor.
  6. Thanks for all those great pics.. Delta-winged planes were always the most awesome-looking aircraft in the sky: But for maneuverability in combat and others factors, not very practical. (But was there ever an aircraft like the Concorde that was not breathtaking to see? I was actually on a beach in NYC in the early 70's when an SST out of JFK flew low and directly overhead bound for Europe).
  7. Yeah, I too have a few posts deleted at Avsim over the years: Too controversial, I guess, for all the kiddies out there who can read. One topic was a discussion of intellectual property with regards to EULA agreements. The Main Man at PMDG preferred to cut short any further discourse involving that subject...
  8. Well il88pp, I had numerous CTD's (FSX-Steam) until I upped my RAM - not one CTD since. Just saying...
  9. Just as an aside, 8 gigs of RAM is barley enough for complex scenery (because available RAM is always reduced via the cache routine), and may lead to much lower frame rates. But I cannot figure out what your problem is with FSX-Steam. I signed-up exactly fours years ago, and though there were some problems along the way, they all got resolved. Hope you find a solution to get flying again...
  10. Now any time I purchase FS payware, I have a just a single word prosessor file called PAYWARE: I enter the company name, any user names and passwords, along with the product, keys, licenses, or purchase order #. This was after going nuts a few times searching thru old EMails trying to find all that info to do re-installs, or upgrades...
  11. Unless Microsoft has done a marketing survey and believes it may generate enough interest, I find it hard to believe there will be enough Xbox'ers who will want to "play" a simulation of flying: Just flying. (sans aerial combat). Perhaps they think there will be a slew of current simmers who will forego their PC's and switch to Xbox? (In the end, Xbox may be a whole lot cheaper than the specs of a new gaming rig that is able to actually run "2020")
  12. I was given a MSFS ver. 1 floppy disc by a co-worker in 1985 - played it on the a NYC Government PC - a true IBM computer that cost $5,000 at that time! - 30 MB hard drive and 540KB of RAM. That got me hooked on flight sim, and I bought every version of MSFS over the years (except fs95) So the months cannot go fast enough for me till 2020 is released...
  13. The ah, other big Forum has a bunch of videos, interviews with MS developers, and many, many speculations (some of them wild), and comments on the future MSFS 2020...
  14. There are some videos, and other tips and tricks on how to re-set and increase the RAM's cache while a program is still running (like FSX). Don't know if that is your particular problem though, or how many gigs of RAM you have? (I just purchased additional slots of RAM recently that totally stopped the oom crashes).
  15. Shhhh... If no one has told you yet, MicroSoft is about to a launch a completely new fight sim tentatively called FS2020 - if you have not heard about it, check out all the hype and videos in the Avsim Forums...
  16. Do you think the Wright brothers would be full of pride and awe if they watched this video from Above? (BTW, I'm an agnostic)
  17. I have read over the past few years that overclocking may shorten the lifespan of that particular chip - Do not know if this is fact or fiction, or if there is any empirical evidence. (I have the Intel 6700k which can be O/Ced, but have gotten really good results on FSX-Steam without doing it).
  18. I first signed-up for the Internet in 1998 - I told my wife: "We should NOT do banking or credit card transactions on the Web" And I've pretty much stuck to my own advice thru the years... Do I sound smug? Well, consider all the thousands of victims out there of theft and scams on the WWW today and ask them...
  19. Great, great, collection of shots! And thanks for the captions of aircraft names, and places. We're too often left to guess what and where...
  20. My advice: Keep a cool stool, and above all, don't panic!
  21. This thread has probably set a new Major League record for both age and number of replies
  22. Yes, the icebergs really ARE melting... And, as Sinatra once said: "It's the cocktail hour - at least it is for me".
  23. Just avoid the consternation you have in buying the DVD's - sign-up for FSX-Steam - just about hassle-free, and much cheaper...
