  1. You should be able to re-start the sim and it will continue form where it left off. Yes there could be server problems, but probably temporary. As far as I know, it can't be played offline. But one of the (many) options is to turn off the sim retrieving Bing images being downloaded of the terrain along the flight.
  2. Update: It completed about 1 PM. Then I added just a couple of packages from Content Manager, which were a couple of earlier World Updates for USA and Great Britain. I have tested and it is working. Well after I figured out about the blue knobs problem on the instrument panel. Tried to set the altitude for the Autopilot and it would not let me change it at all. Now I have fixed the setting. Flew a good flight in DA40 but crashed the landing due entirely to pilot error. But at least I am back to flying.
  3. Why not just start in Little Navmap? The search options on the right-side column allow search by airport code, or city, or state. Then pick from the result(s) by right-clicking and choosing Add as Departure, or Add as Destination. It will display in the center map window the routes and the endpoints. Navigation aids can be picked from the map and selected as "add to flightplan". It all works pretty well. When navigating over mountains it will also tell you what the minimum safe altitude is. Very handy in Colorado.
  4. It is taking an extreme long time. I have had download going for something like 16 hours. The download speed never exceeds 20 Mbps and is often down around 6 or 7. I assume it is the servers as my connection is good for at least 40. It puts me at 76% complete right now. And I assume I will have to do more when I get to Content Manager. Pat
  5. do a search on MSFS 2020 clean uninstall. Or MSFS 2020 clean uninstall for Steam. You will get results. I did the same thing earlier today. I simply could not resolve the problem where the Flight sim window just vanished. So now I am reinstalling after doing the cleanup. The first time since I originally installed 7 months ago. But the download is taking forever. Wish me luck. Hope it works for you too. Pat
  6. Start the flight plan in Little Nav. It works great. Especially if you tell it to link to MSFS for the airport and nav aids data. Then as Inky says you go to File > Export flight plan as MSFS 202. You will be able to open the flight plan in the world map and take it from there
  7. Netlimiter has a free trial period. I never paid for it. But if the problem happens again I might have to. Pat
  8. Sorry to hear of your problems. You should not have had to reinstall the software. The problem you had on the looping of the 1 or 2 items during the update, I have seen that before. There is some kind of interaction between the PC and the servers where it sees an error and starts over - back to 0% - and keeps doing that. When I had that problem I had to Reduce the download speed. Yes painful but necessary to bypass the error. I used Netlimiter to turn down the download speed. I think I set it from 20 Mbs to 10 Mbs. After the updates were successful I removed the limit. Others may know why this is a problem but I did the workaround when I had the issue. Doing a search on the search on the software name and the problem can quite often get an answer from the community somewhere. My advice is that reinstalling the software should almost never be necessary. And reinstalling Windows should never be the solution unless there is a hardware problem that prevents getting to the desktop and using the tools.
  9. I can't even get to the Content Manager. I am giving up for now as it is too frustrating. Until I see a hotfix or some definite advice that leads to a cure. I have always had a stable sim until now.
  10. I emptied the Community folder, even though I don't think it affects the loading of the sim to get to the main screen. It made no difference. It jumps briefly to a screen with an announcement about the new version with Xbox, then the window just vanishes. So I'm stumped at this point. Very reluctant to go thru a re-install unless it is the only solution. Pat
  11. I was about to try again on my PC with MSFS. But I am looking for clues because I don't have much to go by. Mine is installed from Steam which had been usually trouble-free. This time (this was Tuesday evening), Steam did an update before launching MSFS. Not big just a couple of minutes. The MSFS started, check for updates and then informed of a mandatory update and suggested that it would be around 40 Gb with a net increase of file size of 21 GB. I don't recall it ever giving that kind of estimate before. I started the updates and then let it run unattended for several hours as I went to bed. When I got back just the Steam window was open. I tried to run MSFS. It showed the usual startup screens, then went to a picture of a small plane over a field, then started up the check for updates, then it crashed. I tried a couple times, once after closing all windows and doing a reboot. Same result a crash every time before getting to a screen where I can do anything. By the way I am calling it a crash but what happens is the Flight Simulator window just vanishes. So I'm trying to figure out what to try. The last option would be to do a reinstall. I do NOT want to go thru all that. And it should not be necessary. I am off to try something. I can find and empty out the Community folder, but I don't see how anything in Community could affect the startup. Pat
  12. it is deliberate for the Bush Trips. The challenge is to do your own navigation. From the Nav Log notes and any other sources of information. Note that the in-plane instruments still work. In the Cessna you have the G1000. In the Xcub you have the other Garmin dash, not sure of the model number. In the Savage Cub it has a totally retro cockpit, nothing but the basic gauges, no digital tools at all. I am currently working thru the California-Nevada trip with the Savage. It is a challenge but most of the routes are actually pretty easy. The one problem is that a couple of the landing are dirt strips that are almost invisible on the ground terrain (the aids like the airport pins are turned off). I flew the Balkans bush trip that ends in Santorini. This is in the Cessna 172 with the Garmin. That might be a good place to start, with a basic airplane and a digital instrument package. The spirit of the mission is to fly the routes past the points in the Nav log, but the only requirement is to find and land safely at the designated airport. Pat
  13. One comment and then a question. If the current system is running DDR3 on the main memory then the CPU and motherboard combo may not allow switch to DDR4, unless upgrading those parts as well. The question is about the power supply. You were going from a Gforce 1060 which did not require a direct connect to a GTX 3060 which definitely does need the power connector. What are you using for a power supply? IT may not be up to the job, although I would think it would crash if the power was inadequate. Pat
  14. Once your flight has started, the only way I know to modify the flight plan is thru the AutoPilot. The various Garmin models all have some way to do this, but it is easier in some than in others. The Xcub with the touchscreen version of the Garmin is relatively easy to do this as you don't have to turn a knob to enter the letters. The airliners with their more sophisticated flight management systems would be able to do this too. But I am not experienced on flying those. Pat
  15. In the other thread (he has multiple posts) it was stated that he bought from Ebay and got a disc-based version. So was it a legitimate MS version with a valid license? We have no way of knowing. And since OP did not buy from Microsoft or MS-licensed vendor like Steam they are not really required to give customer service. A good reason not to go this route. Pat
  16. In the Bush Trips you almost have to do the magic refueling. They left out any ground services and the Cessna or the Xcub are gong to run out before all the legs get done. I followed instructions from the forum to assign a key to 'refuel and repair' so it was just a keystroke (alt-f) away. I tried to see if the most recent update fixed this problem in the Bush trips. Looks like it did not. Pat
  17. When I started FS2020 last night (late about 2AM) it put me into another update. It said it was 1.17.3 if I recall correctly, same as the last one. It was smaller, about 320 Mb. It seemed to be all updated liveries for the stock airplanes from Asobo. These were optional updates in Content Manager in the World Update but now pushed. I ran a quick flight and a bush trip leg, and did not see any problems. My FS2020 is installed on Steam. Pat
  18. Autoland? Do you mean the AI pilot? As I understand it, that has a few bugs.
  19. IT went smooth for me. I update from Steam. The first update was quick. When FS2020 was started, I went to the Content Manager and updated some but did not take all of the updates. Some of the airport updates were quite large and I did not want them that bad. One this to note about the updates for FS2020. The World Updates seem to be mostly scenery and objects that get updated. But not much of the code. So it does not seem to break the add-ons. The Sim Updates are where coding gets changed, so those are where it might have an impact. Keep flying and have fun! Pat
  20. One more comment on this. If you are seeing any files with 'asobo' in the name, those are official. Don't change anything there.
  21. I was talking about only the Community folder. Don't change or rename anything anywhere else. And the idea was to rename the folders there based on advice about how these add-ons loaded. If you are not comfortable about this, don't change anything. I was comfortable that I could copy them back in if something went wrong. But I'm an old coder who has a bit of knowledge. Pat
  22. 2 thoughts on this. First, doing a restart of MSFS is a good idea, to make sure it picks up any changes. Second, somewhere along the line, I read instructions to be sure in the Community folder that the folders for tools were loaded before the planes. And it cares about alphabetical order. So I have renamed the working title to a-workingtitle-g1000 (and a-workingtitle-g3000 for the other Garmin). Also renamed the plane folders to prefix z- on the name. It seems to work for me. Not sure about using the ILS as I have only tried that once or twice. You engaged the AP and then went to NAV? And had the CDI set to GPS? Pat
  23. Did you add the improved Garmin instruments like from Working Title? I'm not sure about all of them but the G1000 was definitely broken in the last sim update. If this is your situation, you have to remove the ones that you had (Community Folder) and either live with the default Garmins or go back to WorkingTitle and get the updated versions. Then install them back to your Community Folder. Hope this helps. Pat
  24. I have usually been nervous coming in that close to stall speed. I might be getting to where I have more confidence. I have not yet been going to the really short airstrips where that is necessary. I did do a couple of flights and landings at Talkeetna village airstrip (don't remember the code), which is on the short side. And made a good landing. The other challenge there is only a little room next to runway to park it. I did learn that with a decent blip of the throttle the tail can swing around quickly. Pat
