  1. You sound about like me. I lock things down at 30 fps too and given the area I fly in the flat lands of west coast FL I can crank most things up to ultra and maintain the 30 FPS. Even the tree LOD that I complained about seems to be better when you not up in the hills. According to the photogrammetry/Bing imagery in Miami the condo collapse there never happened. I wish that was true of real life
  2. Only thing odd about this is for some reason they demonstrated this at 40 render scale in there live stream. If similar improvements come when leaving the RS at 100 4K then I will be happy provided these "improvements" have not come with even more downgrades in visual quality. ASOBO; "Oh carp it looks like we did something to the tree LOD. No problem it will give them a few more FPS well just call it an optimization"
  3. I finally have one of these shipping to me the 28th. Problem is I have now learned over on the main forum that ASOBO has muffed the trim wheel function. In the process of fixing the 10 degree bug they have now changed the trim wheel function so it takes tons of turns to get any trim adjustment. This would have been a deal killer for me had I known prior to ordering. https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/bug-logged-honeycomb-bravo-throttle-quadrant-trim-wheel-suddenly-very-insensitive-as-of-world-update-4/391153/21 I would be interested to know if any of you are having the same problem and your work around of choice. More concerning to me is how a half dozen nerds over at Xplane can get stuff like this right and a developer with the backing of a billion dollar corporation continue to screw up stuff like this, and please spare me the "its a work in progress give it time" response. It is coming up on a year since release and to have basic functions like this still screwed up is quite frankly at the point of being unacceptable not to mention ASOBOs vague double speak ramblings when issues like this are brought to there attention. Ya; I am starting to feel a bit angry and ranty but I also am starting to think there's some justification for it.
  4. I actually have some live traffic around my home area KSRQ where none existed prior to update. That cant possibly be placebo effect.:pilot: At least they got something working better.
  5. How will my mind play tricks on me today? It seems every update and despite being well aware of what the placebo effect is I cant seem to help myself. I will undoubtedly perceive some improvement to the sim that just is not there and I don't realize it until a few flights are completed post up date. Makes me feel silly but I guess its just human nature.
  6. I have already sunk 3 grand into a new gaming pc and am worried I will never see much advantage to it as compared to what it will be like when it comes out on xbox. On the other hand I would not do it different if I had the chance. I hand not treated myself to a top of the line machine since the early nineties and its amazing how far things have come since then. I no longer have time to go make myself a sandwich while I wait for a PC to finish booting up and that's a good thing:)
  7. I really hope someone can convince me that I am all wrong on this but I am starting to get an uneasy feeling that the slow but steady reduction in graphics quality of this sim is related to the Xbox release. I think the majority would agree that the sim looks worse now than it did when it was released. The tree LOD reduction is even admitted to by ASOBO. If I look at this from a purely business stand point it makes sense. MS is not only trying to sell this sim software but the Xbox console also. Its also possible that the priority is the sale of Xbox consoles. Having higher end PCs provide a better visual experience may be something they have decided dos not make business sense at this point. In other words MS may have decided that both platforms need to be pretty much the same as far as graphics go at this point. To me this would explain a lot and also explain why ASOBO always seems to have only the vaguest of answers when these issues come up. Like I said; I sure hope I am wrong or we have already seen the best of this sim for now as far as graphics go. AT any rate I am sure MS would prefer that people go out and buy Xbox rather than spend money elsewhere upgrading there PC. Think about.
  8. You would think ASOBO would take the wave effects out of there trailers for the sim seeing it is impossible for the end user to create these without also creating unflyable conditions with GA air craft at the surface.
  9. FYI WWW is not short for anything. It is nine syllables World Wide Web is three:D
  10. MS/ASOBO has plenty of resources at there disposal. They certainly have access to a variety of machines from off the rack junk from the local Best Buy to high end offers that cost thousands of dollars like Origin can make for people and have certainly tested the public build on various machines. This is why I find it incredibly disingenuous when they offer up excuses like "we cant duplicate the problem on any of our machines". They are either to lazy to try or they are just buying for time. Either of these is reason to give all of us concern
  11. That's exactly what's happening. CPU load spikes and GPU load falls. Meaning the GPU is waiting on the CPU that has all of the sudden been called on to do overtime for what reason remains to be seen. I am just glad I opted for water cooling on the new build. I am a bit of an old timer when it comes to PC builds and I was kind of thinking it was unnecessary and akin to lighting up your build like a Christmas tree will LED lighting not to mention the leak risk. On the other hand FS is the only software I am likely to run where the code is so flawed that it is causing this in the first place. You usually have to run testing software like cinabench to artificially create these loads in order to test your cooling capacity's. Now I can just do it with FS2020
  12. For those suffering from the stutter bug introduced after the latest patch. After hearing reports of rising cpu temps when this happens I checked it out for myself and sure enough when the stutters started cpu went from 45 to 60. Not a huge problem but for those with low end cooling solutions it may well be. I.E. gaming laptops that always tend toward the hot side. So not only is it a bug but one that puts unnecessary stress on peoples hardware. How can ASOBO stay so silent on this. Lets see if you think this is a good analogue. I have been servicing swimming pools for the last year or so. Today I accidentally put so much chlorine in your pool that it will likely be an irritant to infants and those with sensitive skim. But hey it wont bother 80 percent of people so I think I will just stay quite about it. Has ASOBO now passed from the incompetent category to the out right negligent category?
  13. The problem is wide spread and the amount of complaints on the MSFS forum is astounding. This certainly can be place on the feet of ASOBO
  14. I guess I should consider myself lucky since I am in the intermittent drop offs category so the sim is still playable. As far as ASOBO is concerned that probably puts me in the no problem category.
  15. What I am starting to appreciate less and less is ASOBOs attitude about these issues. August; Well it runs good for 80 percent of people so no problem SUD 1; well it still runs good for 70 percent of people so no problem SUD 2: still runs good for 60 percent so no problem SUD 3; still runs good for 50 percent so no problem. By this logic there wont be a problem until it doesn't even run on there own machines and the likely response will be; "we are considering a hot fix"
  16. So in other words its gong to take them tell years end to provide a replay function that I can already do with Nvidea shadow play. In the words of Joe Biden, "come on man"
  17. There are plenty of gals in aviation and flight simming. They are just not as infantile as us guys when it comes to playing with toy airplanes and flight sims and posting to forums about it. I had a female skydiving pilot on the west coast of Florida but that was many moons ago. I had no problem putting my life in that women's hands. She often had the plane on the ground before me and my instructor landed our shoots. I am a huge fan of Patty Wagstaff out of St. Augustine Florida. Do a youtube search on her. She's a champ. Inverted ribbon cutting 40 foot of the deck in an Extra 300. I cant even do that in the sim.
  18. Ok update; its nine hours later and 122 gigs are downloaded. I have a 100mbits unlimited connection but the sim hovers around the 40 mark. My ISP must think I am trying to down load the entire content of the Smithsonian institute I was unaware of the hot fix before I launched the sim got redirect to ms store for update. Updated; started the sim and was confronted by the welcome set your experience screen. It was at this point that I new I was in trouble. I had never had problems with previous updates. Yep time to download 160 gigs. I am not a big add on guy so my community folder is empty. I think ms is going to have to offer the core of the sim on thumb drive so we can install and then update from there in market place. I just dont see the casual/new/simmer type taking the time to dl this sim. I mean put yourself in there shoes. Ya always wanted to try a flight sim. Wha Wha What? 160 gigs !......nah maybe some other time. I did run into Sister Teraseana this morning. I got as far as "what do you think of fs20...and she was already cussing and hitting me in the back of the head with a third grade spelling book. Thank God that woman only ways 80 pounds. To be fair though she may have also caught site of the golf clubs in the back seat of my car.
  19. I will admit there are more pressing matters than a replay mode but what is your confidence level that ASOBO will get it right the first time. If its like everything else it will get released; bugs discovered; bugs patched but creates new bugs and so on and so on. OOF 2025 development update. We are now proud to say replay function is working properly.
  20. Well yesterdays hotfix did not go well for me. What ever miss step I made has necessitated a full install and I am now downloading 162 gigs hoping the sim will run well when its finished. My first flight sim was fs98 and then progressed to xplane which I had been using prior to fs2020. Needless to say I never experienced any thing like this with past sims. I am at the point now where I have to ask myself if all this hassle is worth it. There use to be only one thing that could make a Nun start cussing like a sailor and that was trying to play golf. Golf is now in danger of losing that title to installing and running fs2020. I hate to call this money badly spent and move on but I am starting to see no alternative. I am Catholic so perhaps I should consult an actual Nun on what I should do here.
  21. My hope prior to sim release was that you would be able to cache everything in relation to how much HD space you could dedicate to it. That may have been a misunderstanding on my part but what we have right now is more than just a misunderstanding on my part I would think.
  22. At this point I don't think its even really caching anything except for maybe ground textures. There's not much point to it anyways as we have seen with the recent server crash most people cant start the game without it connecting to the server anyways. So lets say your internet is out. Ok I can fly around my cached areas in MSFS while I wait for it to come up. NOPE. They promised an off line functionality but evidently what I call functionality and what MS calls functionality are two different things.
  23. I can still hear my high school economics teachers (1982) voice ringing my ears today "in the presence of monopolies the customer will get inferior products at a artificially high price. In the presence of a free market the customer will get quality products at the lowest price possible". Where do you think we are at today.
  24. make sure you have not left your ignition switch turned all the way right. should be one click back from right its not spring loaded like the real thing.
  25. Believe it or not I still have not strayed to far from my home airport KVNC in the 172. Speaks to how good the VFR experience is in this sim when after months I am still not tired of the scenery in my own neck of the woods. I think the longest complete flight I have done is KVNC to Captiva. Not vary far. I do wonder around the Florida keys on occasion. The sim seems to be best suited for this type of flying right now any ways. Good thing I have no desire to be a jet jockey. I don't look good with gold stripes on my shoulders anyways.
