Exactly! I'm at the point there is nothing left to do with FS9 other than fly and explore all the texture add-ons etc. It means I can just enjoy all the aircraft, slowly learn to fly them while I sit back and change the look of FS9 every time I feel like a new look. There's enough planes to last my lifetime. One of the best aspects of FS9 is there is no frustration, no time tweaking or doing anything other than flying. That's how a flight sim should be! This "it'll be right in 10 years" doesn't cut it. OMG, some people are in for many years of frustration. Seriously, how people can sit there, be ready and wanting to fly, firing up their sim, only to find a 100GB update needs to be done first! Insane. lol One member I notice is complaining about it right now.

Think you would struggle finding many under 50 here. There is still a misconception that gaming is for kids. Many flight sim users wipe that away by arguing they are "simulating" and it's totally different to gaming. No, it's the same thing. lol Keep at it. Flight sims and other games are all good for the mind, a challenge and fun as well. The gaming age average has gone up drastically over the years and it'll likely continue to go up. Now we just need to lose the silly stereotype of a gamer and be able to use the word "gamer" freely.

I never suggest what anyone should enjoy. If MSFS does what you want have a blast with it. My argument is that if you take away the graphics, what's left has little appeal and users would almost certainly ALL be back to FSX/FS9. In other words, take out the eye candy and it is no match for the other flight sims. Even as far as the graphics go, I personally have many issues with them that I know I could not live with. FS9 graphics are actually preferable to me.

No problems with that at all. I enjoy reading your posts and everyone else's. I really really enjoy reading posts from people who I know are in a silly huff and puff over flight sim talk. They make me giggle.

Mowgli22, My point is, people use MSFS because of the graphics and all in reality, nothing else. If the graphics looked the same as FS9/FSX all those MSFS fans would dump it in a flash and be right back here. It comes down to this, if you want a flight sim, you choose FS9/FSX. If you want a plane game with pretty graphics, you choose MSFS. Yes, absolutely MSFS is the future but it is not the future of flight simming because a flight sim it is not and never will be. It's a modern day gaming cash grab like so many other games out there.

Let me ask you this and it's a general question to anyone. If MSFS was exactly as it is except the graphics looked like FS9/FSX would you still use it or go back to FS9/FSX? Think carefully, honest answer.

Most people don't have OOM's in FS9. It depends what you run in your FS9 if you will ever have an OOM issue. People only look into things when they have a problem and most people simply get by fine with no need for the patch. If you don't have OOM's, you have no need whatsoever for the patch as it helps nothing else.

There are other games that are effectively dead in the modern market. When this happens, people tend to gravitate to what was the best version of the game regardless if it was the last version of the game in the franchise or 2 or 3 versions before the last. Flight Sims will be/already are on their way out. FS9 is the best sim. I think many others will come to the same realization and this will be the FS version many will gravitate too in the future. It has many advantages over the other sims and is the best all rounder. People will come in and quote me and argue with me BUT my statements are the exact reason FS9 simply has not died off over the years like FS2002 and the other FS versions before FS2002. It has too much to offer. The masses will always race to what is new but when there is no new or new becomes no good, they then look back over all the previous versions and settle on what is the best version. For flight sims, it will be FS9.

It does nothing to visuals or performance. It will help stop OOM's.

Security updates and fixes stopped Jan 2020. Updates you get now will be for other elements on your PC. People confuse these as being normal updates but they are not. Operating system security updates are greatly overrated. Virus protection, yes, ok, if you are liable to do silly things but another program can handle this. There are still people running Win XP without ever having any security issues. I’ll always run Win 7 and Win XP as I like my old games. I spend time getting broken software to run on Win 10 but that’s just for fun. For myself, I simply use the appropriate operating system.

Yes. Windows 7 no longer functions on new hardware and has no more support. If the intention is to run a game from 2003, it is still the best OS for it. Of course if you want to do other things beside use FS9, then you may have to use Win 10 and sacrifice FS9 a little.

Win 7 is the best operating system for FS9. If you have a choice, use Win 7.

Steve, seriously, I don't need too just like I don't need to watch the movie. There is more than ample information on MSFS to understand why I will have no interest in it. Sitting down for 30 seconds to watch the movie would be a waste of 30 seconds of my life so it would be with MSFS. I can see everything I need to see and need to know from the information already out there. Trying MSFS would change nothing. Someone will now ask the ridiculous question of why am I here then? I am here because I follow flight sims good and bad. I follow flight sims I play and do not play. Unlike the other silly examples people have stated, it's no different to having an interest in cars. You don't just read information on the car you own or think is best.

Nope. Psychiatrist you are not. lol In the past, I would've said it's another user who has stated he is not into realism and likes the pretty graphics. I would've said that this is what MSFS is, a game with pretty graphics and not a flight simulator. I would've also said he hasn't had it long enough to experience all the bugs and graphical problems. However!!! This thread and it's incredibly wise users have taught me to see things differently. I've always been a Star Wars fan. Silly me might've bypassed movies that may be even greater than Star Wars based solely on trailers and reviews without ever watching the full movie. I now feel so silly about this. A sincere thank you to you all. I have learned my lesson. I am going to sit down and start by watching "Zaat." I formed an opinion on it just like MSFS without ever watching the full movie. It could potentially be the best way to ever spend 1 hour 40 minutes of my life and may leave Star Wars in it's dust! What great advice you guys provide. I must go. Gotta watch Zaat and I'm so excited about all the things in life I now realize I may have missed! Thank you all once again!

I spent 2 hours flying a Cessna 172 without ever being in a cockpit before. Everything came from FS9. If I used MSFS, I probably wouldn't be here to tell you about it. lol

I know! My main account my posts are under moderator approval. It’s sat idle since then. I just use another account for anything controversial. I see they tried to put in some safeguards against multiple accounts but it doesn’t work for anyone who knows what they are doing. Kinda silly on their part. If they just left my main account alone they would know who I am. Now they’ll have to go looking for me. I sometimes swear some of the AVSIM mods chase me around here! lol
