    New Year

Sorry, still here. I'm done installing operating systems, looking for all the problems and then spending hours fixing them. That's why I built PC's running Win7 and Win XP so anything that is best suited to those systems, goes on those systems. I'm just using Win 11 normally, when I come across a problem program, I'm not wasting any time fixing it, I'll just switch it to another PC. Haven't tried FS yet. Opened it but that's all. It did open and appeared fine. I loaded a flight and it loaded fine. The drinking comment was regarding the task bar. Microsoft have decided in order to have a clean/stylish looking UI, grouping icons on the taskbar should now be compulsory. There is no Windows option to ungroup them like you could every other operating system for ease and speed of use in the past. Wtf? Now they are creating operating systems to look pretty over functionality. What is computing coming too? If we want pretty pretty, that's why we have something like a smartphone but let's leave computers to do more serious things than sit there and look pretty. (You can see where the MSFS ideas came from! lol) I've also lost the ability to use a screensaver or use any of the power options. For example, if I want my screen to turn off after x amount of time. This I quickly found is a common issue for many people with no fix. What is not stated on the internet that I found through fixing old games is that the problem goes as far back as Windows XP. The problem in past operating systems affected things in games but not the Windows screensaver/power options but I know this is the same thing. It means it is almost certain Microsoft will not fix this screensaver/power option problem via a Win 11 update as people are hoping as they have clearly been unable to fix the relevant problem since Win XP! Anyhow, as I've always said, Win 10 is junk, Win 11 looks worse. The other big issue is modern hardware and Win 11 are not playing nice with some older games that ran under Win 10. I'll be watching to see how any FS9 users get on in the future with the latest hardware running on Win 11. Win 10 killed some FS users, Win 11 may kill off quite a few more.

    New Year

Haha, well, not the thread for a proper response. I don't know what Microsoft are thinking sometimes when they create operating systems. I swear they must drink at work.

    New Year

I'll tell you how happy it is when I'm done installing Windows 11. In the process right now. Happy New Year to those who are not in my situation.

    4GB Patch

I reckon if I tried hard enough, I could bring on an OOM with default FS9. If I didn't run the patch in my installation with add-ons, I'd have OOM's all the time. Most who are still using FS9 today run very simple add-ons. For this reason, they never experience many problems with FS9, not OOM's or anything else. FS9 has many running issues particularly under Windows 10. I've found many of the issues that affected me and eliminated most of them. That I can read these forums and not see any complaints of the things I've come across, confirms the type of installations FS9 users must be running. No, it's not that I do not know what I am doing or it is just my system. These are things that do affect every user.

    4GB Patch

If you are patched there will be a fs9.exe backup created in your main FS folder.

    4GB Patch

If you have OOM's get it. If you don't, it won't do anything else for your FS9. You can get it regardless, it won't affect anything else.
  7. I assume you got your problem resolved with Avechelice's help?
  8. Agree with everything you have said. What is sad is that it is the consumer that ultimately gets burned in today's world. Then you have those users who actually support these new business models OMG! I feel sorry for those that get burned. I hope those users who are now sinking massive amounts of dollars into MSFS don't suffer the same fate. While FS9 users are getting burned with some add-ons at least we still have FS9 and many other add-ons. With the modern MSFS, the entire game could just go POOF and then obviously taking along with it all add-ons purchased. This is the way of today's world and I really don't like it.
  9. Peter, Yours might be purely a FS related problem. I have one of those to sort out (FS9 related problem) and one Windows 10 problem to sort out for my FS9 to be perfect. Keep trying anything you can think of.
  10. Thanks for the system info guys. If anyone has Run as admin on try unchecking it and see if it makes a difference.
  11. Nevermind, going to message you. Edit: You need to clear out some space.
  12. Can you post your system specs?
  13. That'll be FSUIPC related. iFly installer installs FSUIPC. Reinstall your FSUIPC and it should all work. I'm running FS happily on Win 7. Have one issue remaining on my Win 10 PC to run FS but needs time dedicated to fix the problem and time I don't have atm.
  14. Peter, I know the UT's are through Flight1. Please post back with how you go with those. I personally hate Flight1's over the top piracy measures. I had all sorts of issues with the QualityWings 757. Flight1 have changed their system since so it might make things easier for you. For myself, I wanted to transfer this aircraft to a PC without internet connection and in the past this was possible but now it is not.
  15. I'm using ASE as you may know and it works perfectly within the limitations of what FS9 can do. With FS9, you can fly through the worst weather and you will always make it out alive. As far as I know, it's the same for any sim. However, your aircraft will get bounced around quite severely in really bad weather. You do get this effect with ASE right up to the maximum FS9 allows. You can always not use FSGRW, use the FS9 built in weather and create the worst conditions possible. Take a fly through them and see if you have ever experienced these types of conditions with FSGRW. It'll at least tell you if your FSGRW is likely not passing on very severe weather to FS9.
  16. Payware procedures are all different. Copying over content to another PC will in almost all cases not work. If this was the case, piracy would be very simple. Best to re-install all payware. This might also become a task and especially when you are moving payware to a different PC. Try and re-install your payware and then post specific issues you are having as there is no one answer for all payware products. In many instances you may need to contact the payware company themselves. Good luck!
  17. BUT...if you got one FS2004 plane for free and had to buy the rest at real plane prices, what plane would you take for free? I'd take the iFly 737. I just logged flight number 881. In other words, this thread asks your fav FS2004 plane. No, you can't say I would buy an A380, sell it and buy lots of little planes. If IRL you could afford a second plane, feel free to list it. I haven't done much flying lately due to time. Having just fired up FS2004 and the iFly, I can see it will be this flight sim and this plane for life. Of course I will fly many other planes as well. FS2004 is the boredom free sim. Waaay too much to do! Sidenote: I hope HJG keep going. Been and still are great for FS2004! :pilot:
  18. Don't underestimate what FS needs. A better card will absolutely help.
  19. Check to see if the texture load problem is with all aircraft or just certain aircraft. FS9 depending what you run can still need a reasonably beefy system.
  20. There are issues under Win 10 which you cannot get around that were not there for other operating systems. For most people here, they have not come across them because they don't try and use certain add-ons with certain hardware. The issues do however exist.
  21. Yes, I figured this one out but after the last response I got from trying to help a user with the issue I gave up. Hi Hans! lol
  22. Please list any add-ons that you have and cannot get to work with Win 10. Please include what part of the add-on is not working properly.
  23. Always thought about using Microsoft Flight Simulator for as long as I can remember. I knew it would be a major time killer so avoided it for many years. Someone I met back when FS2002 was current talked me into installing it. Over 2 decades since that day, here I am and yep, I can now certainly confirm it's as I suspected, a real time killer! lol I've done many things for FS9 but released three. Two paints and my early interface packs. Certain operating system issues over the years needed fixes. When Win 10 came along, fixes for that required some work which I have now accomplished. I haven't released any of the fixes. The main thing I wanted to do the last few years is make sure I can run FS9 till the day I'm no longer here. Having to find ways to dodge bullets from Microsoft and hardware manufactures to make sure they can never take my FS9 enjoyment away. This I have accomplished as well. I'm not creating anything for FS9 right now as I have shifted all focus and committed to a long term project for another genre of game. At some stage in my life I'll get back to more work with FS9 but my time and focus for the next few years will be away from flight sims. Here is probably one of my fav interfaces from the released pack. Love Spidey!
  24. Goodbye to the members in this forum. My posts are now under moderation and I have no interest in staying anywhere where I have such restrictions. All the best to all and long live FS9!
