  1. Very true Tim, YouTube is now as indispensable as Google! Yet it doesn't replace a good "old fashioned" manual.
  2. Awesome Robert... that link is simply brilliant! Many thanks
  3. Nels you hit the nail on the head, when buying payware aircraft you get big manuals packaged. These stock models that come packaged with the sim surely need manuals to fly, imagine having to use own intuition to fly the Airbus?
  4. Nothing too exotic yet reasonably powerful: Asus ROG z390 mobo with i7/9700k 9th generation 8-core cpu running stable at 4.7 GHz with Corsair liquid cooler and 32gigs of vengeance RAM. 2tb ssd as well as Asus ROG rtx2070super graphic adapter with 8 gigs video memory. I find this a great value for the money in terms of performance. I don’t intend to use 4k only 1440. hope this works well. Khalid
  5. Microsoft and bad choices, a very firm pairing! Wot? Khalid
  6. Thank you KW I am quite aware but I already bought my hardware and it doesn’t make sense to halt everything till 2024 arrives. I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. In fact I just bought the sim (premium deluxe 40th anniversary edition, the top of the line) from Microsoft store as they have a special offer on it $77.99 -saving $43 off list price! Steam wanted the full list price. Thank you once more and all the best. Khalid
  7. You're welcome Cas, so happy you're all sorted and have a stable platform now. It's a very smart use for the cold dehumidifier exhaust! That's an original and makes perfect sense. Kudos to you. Khalid
  8. Thank you Charlie, Nels, and Loki for your valuable inputs. Loki: I already have a steam account where I bought the steam version of FSX, if the price is the same ($77.99) I would definitely go with steam. I do not see myself using a game console for flight simulation in this life. I presume I will get pdf versions of the guide book(s) along with the downloads? Khalid
  9. As the proverb says, "The Only Stupid Question is the One You Don't Ask." here goes: I am building a high end system and want to buy MSFS 2020. I definitely want the Premium Deluxe edition. and after doing some research I found out that there is a certain "Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Anniversary Edition" which is premium deluxe but with 12 extra aircraft and other extras. My question is: What format to go for? tin-DVD or download? whats the pros and cons of each version? apart from getting the print manuals, that is, I see Microsoft currently offers the download version of the 40th anniversary edition at a discount price of $77, should I go for that? I also learned that the 40th anniversary upgrade is freely available to all current owners of the premium deluxe version. A tad baffled I would love to hear the advise of you folks who are better learned than me in this undertaking? Thank you in advance, Khalid
  10. I don't have the MSFS 2020 (yet) but these graphics are eye candy and the composition of the shots is lovely too. This reminded me of me toying with landing a DC-3 on an aircraft carrier deck, after watching a documentary with footage of Doolittle's B-25s taking off the USS Hornet. Mercifully the deck was solid with my ancient FSX.
  11. Sorry I have nothing to contribute to your problem but I read you’re in hospital and wanted to wish you a get well soon. All the best. Khalid
  12. That topic is something of a deja-vu for me. I apologise if I am repeating some of the points but I just remembered what happened to me years back; Did you replace thermal putty and properly seat your heatsinks (cpu and graphic card)? I have bought a larger more efficient CPU cooler fan (I think it was by Zalman) with lots of copper and heat exchange fins and a larger fan. That seemed to have ended my woes. Best of luck with your situation. Khalid
  13. The first symptom of a broken capacitor would be a dead motherboard. Wouldn’t go past the POST test. These are visibly easy to spot, looking bloated and oversized. And like Jorgen pointed out you can’t replace these easily yourself. Is your computer case small or overcrowded?
  14. A lot of the people who replied to your post have said solid things. The shutting down of processes will not do much good and it isn't practical either. In my humble opinion your computer will benefit from a good, thorough dust off, using an air blower. reseat your cards and memory chips after cleaning the contact pins with a rubber eraser. and finally if you are conversed enough, take off the heat-sinks including the CPU and GPUs clean up the old thermal paste scraping then with alcohol and apply fresh high quality paste then reseat the heatsinks and fans. make sure nothing is blocking the ventilation of your case or is obstructing the thermodynamic flow of cool air. Additional fans won't go amiss or heck even using a larger, more spacious case like a full tower (you don't need to take out a mortgage to buy one, try eBay for pre owned, these last an eternity). Good luck hope my two cents' worth helps.
  15. Great shots Daryl. The ATR still serves at the front line of commuter-liners and has a very impressive performance. I have seen its pilots reverse the aircraft using thrust reversers! no need for push back.
  16. Awesome shots, looks more like the Howard version which was a (super) Lodestar, update made in the 1960s on a number of aircraft by Howard Aero in Texas! found it here interesting! In case you like to see more lodestar stuff, I made a post back in 2021, click here to view quoting from the museum page regarding the upgrades in the Howard version: 1944 Lockheed Lodestar Howard 250 executive conversion Condition: Currently flying & Airworthy Updated by Howard Aero as the Howard 250, the conversion was to prove popular with about 22 aircraft modified in the early 1960s in San Antonio Texas. Some of the upgrades include: Increased fuel capacity to 1100 gallons Gross takeoff weight increased to 22,500 lbs. Extended wing tips Specially developed square tip propellers Engine cowling to nacelle streamlining High flow exhaust system Two speed superchargers Engine fire extinguishers Electric elevator trim In-flight fuel dump system Streamlined flap and wing trailing edges Fully enclosed landing gear doors 12 place oxygen system Stretched cabin picture windows Curved glass windshields Extended cockpit side windows Autopilot Extended nose for Bendix weather radar Freon air conditioning Stinger tail for streamlining Deice boots Lockheed began to develop a larger and updated version of the Model 14 Super Electra in 1939 after the earlier design did not prove a commercial success. The company modified the fourth Super Electra by adding two more rows of seats in a fuselage stretched by 5ft 6in to 49ft 10in. The first of three altered aircraft flew on September 21, 1939, with the first true Model 18 following on February 2, 1940.
  17. 3 years on, I visited this post and absolutely love it. Way to go Larry.
  18. Spot on. Thank you, Wim. You are simply brilliant. :pilot: Khalid
  19. Things come with various add ons. I think SODE came with ORBX scenery.
  20. I had a problem with RAAS pro and uninstalled it, Then I noticed that my add on menu is missing entries. I have n idea how to re-install it. I know for sure I had many entries in it including the FSUIPC and Captain Sim etc. now almost nothing appears in this menu. Is there a way to restore it? Thanks in advance for your help. I have FSX Gold Edition with SP2 and Acceleration and the lot installed.
  21. Impressive screenshots. I particularly love the one with the Chicago skyline at night. Good work. Khalid
  22. Sharp pictures and a sharp looking Cessna. She is a speed demon. Well done. Khalid
  23. Lovely aircraft, I remember reading an article about the Condor in Flying magazine donkeys of years back beautifully illustrated by hand. Great shots Col. Khalid
  24. Beautiful shots Bob, although that tiny C152 looks scary braving such elements.
