  1. Just curious how you guys are using FS9 in regards to airliners. And I guess I am talking simulating a passenger airline with turboprops up to the big boys. 1.)Do you use default at all, payware, freeware? 2.)Belong to a VA, use Air Hauler, make up your own reasons to fly, any or all of these? 3.)Vatsim? 4.)Do your planes need to be hi-fidelity like a PMDG with FMC, or are you ok with Garmin or something like Garrett Smiths barebones FMC? 5.)Do you ever use the ATC? 6.)Are you mostly a GA person? I'm just looking to see what people are up to with the airliners, maybe discuss FS9 minus the 'us vs them' stuff. I just flew from KSDF to KBNA in the default 737(American Pacific), sneaking in a route on the east coast. I have a modded panel with pushback, v-speed and Garretts FMC added. As I was landing, I thought that I have better aircraft, but it was still an enjoyable flight and then it led me to wonder about the questions above.
  2. ActiveCamera, well there goes my evening when I get home from work, LOL. Forgot all about ActiveCamera. Been using a lot of freeware stuff for a while with 2D panels, so didn't have it installed. I have the V35 from Carenado, but it must have been one of their early products, because its pretty rough looking. Externals are great but the VC is pretty bad. Still fly it though, have the XP11 version also, which looks great.
  3. I have the Steam version of FSX installed but rarely use it. It runs fine on my PC, just never seems to pull me in.
  4. Amazing I have used FS9 all these years and never installed these sceneries. Just spent the morning downloading all the FS9 content from the site. Interesting you are flying the Seneca. I just purchased it yesterday. I have started flying GA almost exclusively now, in XP11 and FS9. I am trying to replace the default planes, and the Seneca bumps the Baron out of my fleet.
  5. Cafe Bustelo, my favorite k-cup coffee
  6. I've been into flight sims since the 80s, I came to FS2004 just by natural progression. It was the next in line and I bought it. Still use it along with XP11. The only thing I have made for FS9 for public consumption was a handful of small airports in KY.
  7. I have this AC also, bought it a couple years ago. I don't know if this is ALL the sounds it uses, but here is where it located the base sound folder C:\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\PSSB77704\sound
  8. I have FS2004(FS9)installed on my Windows 10 machine and fly it every day. I also use X-Plane 11.
  9. That's true, I don't fly airliners much, I do vicariously thru you and others lol. I am usually in the default Cessna, or a couple Carenado birds I like. Low and sort of slow. I do small chunks, in areas I usually fly, but yes I would also love to have the whole US. I dont fly outside of it often. But my 1TB is used for pretty much everything so it's getting crowded.
  10. Good to see you back, hope you are feeling better. I'm mixed on the photoreal. I tried it in the older sims, FS9 and FSX, but could never enjoy what felt (was) like flying over pictures. I do use Ortho4XP in a few areas, only because of the autogen layers. Even though they are generic, theres something about just having physical structures that I need. What I don't like is when you fly from an ortho area to a default. XP is on my 500GB SSD, and I keep my scenery on a 1TB HDD, so I cant really cover everything.
  11. I've always been intrigued with the idea of a VA, and even joined a couple, but never really participated. I think briansommers is correct about people really just wanting a group. A lot of VAs seem to be the fly whatever to wherever. I can do that on my own. In fact, I usually create my own airline with liveries, hubs, routes, etc. That scratches the creative itch I get with most any game. I think the multiplayer aspect of MSFS will fill the void for a lot of people.
  12. I assume this is the MD87 tanker with the Erickson Aero liveries. If so, try this in your aircraft config Remember, the first number is the forward/backwards movement of the eyepoint. So it would be the higher the number, the more forward your position. The second number moves you left and right, and last number is up and down. I only changed the first number. Also, at least for me, I still had to zoom out a bit. I always fly in the VC at about 40% or so zoomed out. [Views] eyepoint=88.9, -1.76, 11.34 //eyepoint = 39.2, -1.55, 4.08 //(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from reference datum //eyepoint = 48.2, -1.55, 1.9 //(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from reference datum Dont worry about the ones that have a // in front of them, the // means they aren't used. You can type anything after the //
  13. Referencing the movie, did they model the big stick that came from under the plane, lol.
  14. Not necessarily a huge surprise, but I will really miss him. I've followed him for what seems like forever.

    HD vs SSD

Is it a barebones install of FS9? Could it be some sort of scenery loading issue thats causing the hesitation? Maybe an addon? Also, by hesitation do you mean slowing down, or a pause?
  16. The SGA DC9 aircraft have always been favorites of mine. No VC, and you need to find a panel for them. Search the library under FS2004 Jetliners for sga dc9 Paintkit is on page 6, DC9-30 on page 11 or search by filenames dc9pntkt.zip sga930.zip Here is a soundset sgaj8d9a.zip
  17. We used to get the C-118Bs(pretty sure), and the C-131s into Capodichino all the time in the early 80s. Loved them. That livery really takes me back.
  18. Awesome! I think I saw that bird more during my time in the Navy than just about anything.
  19. The default Cessna. And also the freeware Navion. Love flying them.
  20. Yes, those are hideous. Even back when I bought MyTraffic5, I was disappointed. I have always used WOAI as my primary traffic, and the retro stuff from CalClassic in my time travel installs.
  21. I thought I had the MyTraffic6 on my external, but had to go find the download again. Installed it to a temp folder, now to pick through it. FS9 has a way of standing behind me and pushing me down the rabbit hole. Glad it's the weekend. 06 has the retro traffic, didn't see it in 05.
  22. I have installed Mytraffic 2005 recently, not for the planes but for the little extras like the different ATC accents, the driveable follow me, and spotty. Also there was the thing for viewing all the AI traffic in the area. And if you have a fairly vanilla install, there is a giant folder of afcads that cover a ton of airports, which is great for when you dont have an addon airport. If i remember correctly, they release either 05 or 06 a few years ago free. But maybe it was a limited time thing. I do remember it having the backdated traffic and aircraft.
  23. ..for short, or Madeira. Whichever, out of the box it is so nice to fly. I fly one handed because I have my fingers crossed on the other hoping to avoid any CTDs or other issues. So far so good.
  24. Funny thing is now, when I use MSFS, and then go to FSX or FS9, my yoke/throttle wont work. I have to reboot the PC. The way this game can affect other things is nuts. I get MSFS thru the gamepass subscription, which allows me to try other games. I'm glad I didn't buy it. No matter what people think or hope, there is no guarantee that ASOBO will get things right. I'm also not fully comfortable being joined at the hip with an internet connection and Microsoft for a sim to run fully. As far as the installs of MSFS, I have only ever had to install the update, and for the most recent, both hotfixes. But that's what is so bad about the whole thing, some people have had NO issues other than a few small ones, and others can't even boot the sim. And for many, it's day to day. No matter what the fanatic defenders say, MSFS is a trainwreck. If it wasn't there wouldn't be a hotfix to fix a hotfix. Some say they are experiencing no issues, and are able to enjoy it. But that isn't the case for everyone. All the people who deleted P3D/FSX/XP11 on day one and now are finding they can't enjoy their hobby because of issues with MSFS, puzzle me. But, everything aside, I do hope they get it straight. Because I do love what they have created and the potential of MSFS. If things improve, it would definitely pull me away from all the others.
  25. If Asobo can eventually get MSFS into a playable state for the MAJORITY of users, and developers feel it's worth it to go all in, I think we will see FSX go the way of FS2000 and FS2004. But I still expect FSX to live on as the others have. I got my first new PC in 7 years, mainly to use MSFS, but that also allowed me for the first time be able to run XP11 and FSX. XP11 was a new experience for me, FSX I have had for years but couldn't get out of the teens in FPS. Now they run like champs. I'm getting to use all the addons I have missed. It's like I just got 3 new flight sims. Most of my flight time is still in FS2004, and I still pick up pay-ware on occasion and am archiving as much of the quality free stuff as I can. Same as well now with FSX. Use what you enjoy. There are people who would tell you over a year ago that XP11, or FSX, or P3D were far superior to the others. Then MSFS comes out and those same people are arguing it's the end all be all and everything else is rubbish. These are elitists, or front-runners. "My 2021 BMW makes your 2020 BMW look like garbage". I don't want MSFS to fail, in fact the newest update has doubled my FPS. Which could be a good sign for people with less powerful systems. It's possible if I had only replaced my old vintage nvidia with what I am using in my new rig, I may have been able to run MSFS on my old PC. In the end, if I enjoy flying from KJFK to KMIA in a CLS 742, using FS9, then that is what I am going to do. If I am the last one doing it, it doesn't affect my enjoyment. When I was flying F19 Stealth Fighter in the late 80s on my Commodore 128, I had no idea and didn't give a darn what everyone else was doing or if I was using the latest/greatest.
