Sim vs real life
opcartmell replied to kingnorris's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
You could try this: In MSFS pick an airport as the origination and then click to view the real departures from the airport. You can then choose to base a flight plan on the route(s) used in the real flight. See what that one looks like. -

I tried dogdish's recommendation without success. What plane are you flying where you experience this? -
MS Fltism newbie, sort of
opcartmell replied to geoffreyshiptom's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
As you can see in my signature, I don't have a super powerful computer; however, MSFS runs well on this system with most graphics on the high setting. I'm extremely happy with the simulator. I fly a mix of GA and airliners. Had a few glitches but overall it is great. You'll love the scenery. I use my old CH products pedals, a Honeycomb Alpha controller, a Saitek throttle quadrant, and a Flight velocity trim wheel. I have some old Go Flight panels which I'v adapted to MSFS with the Poly Pot software. -

Have you checked that you don't have more than one control input bound to the same axis. -
Couple of questions from a newbie.
opcartmell replied to jt23's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
i haven't flown the FA-18; no advice there. The CJ4 will not load a flight from the world map. After loading to the CJ4. you have to modify the waypoints via the FMC to get what you want. WT states the limitation when loading flight plans on one of their sites. -
A cautionary tale...
opcartmell replied to markhoare's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Sorry, I have to disagree. MFS works fine on my mid-range computer. I get an occasional stutter when starting a flight, but beyond that, I have good scenery and acceptable. Caveat, my simulator is stock other than the Working Title CJ4 amd G1000. I had to change a few control assignments but nothing I couldn't handle. My scenery is fine, and my fps a very acceptable 45 yo 60. I fly mostly ga aircraft low and slow. Nothing is overclocked. -
Have you tried cleaning the registry with something like CCleaner? The free version will do the job quickly and backup the current registry. When I started, I could not finish the download either. I finally reinstalled windows and, with a clean computer, was able to install. Fortunately, the computer was new and had no other files on the hard drive.

PC System Spec
opcartmell replied to STUART HARTLEY's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
I don't think this system has enough power and ram to run msfs to any degree of satisfaction. You'll need at least 16 mb of ram and a pretty fast processor. I would be leery of a "dedicated graphics brand" graphics processor. Msfs places a heavy demand on the graphics processor. Also, MSFS is anything but light gaming. -
CTD after an hour of flying
opcartmell replied to davidc2's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
If you haven't already done so use the appropriate software to monitor you CPU and GPU at the same time. For AMD it's called Adrenaline; I don't know the proper one for Nvidia. You may find bottlenecking in your system. The processor is either too slow or too fast for the GPU, the system will start skipping frames. Or you may find either one is loafing along. In my case my CPU and GPU were loafing along and found I could put more load on the GPU and now get 50 to 60 fps. Also, after a CTD, restart the system and use the Windows event viewer to see what caused the crash. That way you reduce the chance of chasing an unknown problem with large amounts of cash. -

EAST COAST DISCOVERY trip
opcartmell replied to kiwikid's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
You fly it. Take off and as you level off you'll see your first waypoint. As you pass the first one, the second one becomes visible and so on until the end. -
Trainee issue
opcartmell replied to delmac2's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Sounds like the lesson is faulty. Leave the lessons, load the same plane at the same airport. If you're in the 152 with elevator trim neutral the plane will take off at 50 to 60 knots by itself without any flaps. -

Can you post your computer specs. Others may have suggestions based on the detailed specs. Also, suggest you post your specs in your signature. -

I think you can set the clouds up one notch without changing anything else. Give that a try and see what happens. What are your computer specs? -
flight sim 2020
opcartmell replied to alan4728's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
There is no doubt that this program has some major and minor problems when compared to the mature simulators. However I think we were advised that this was a product that would continue to be developed as we gained more experience. Given the complexities of the program, the partners involved and the ongoing development required; I'm concerned the developers will run out of money before all the problems are solved. Nonetheless, I'm enjoying the experience so far and expected to fiddle with the program and the peripherals as much as I did with FSX. And hey, I have a nice new rig to fun FSX if MSFS doesn't make it to full maturity. Lastly, over a million copies of the sim have been sold and there surely aren't a million complaints on the forums. -
I have several Go Flight modules I would like to get working with MSFS. I'm aware there are several ways to make this happen and am seeking feedback regarding experiences with the various methods. So far I've heard about GoFlight (doubtful), PolyPot, FSUIPC, and SPADneXt. I would appreciate you comments to help me narrow this down. Successes; failures. Thanks.

FSX 2020 Sys Reqs help please
opcartmell replied to snadge's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
My specs are in the signature. I can tell you this rig runs MSFS 2020 pretty well at about 30fps. However, I really haven't taxed the system to the fullest since I've stayed with basic, GA aircraft (the Icon A5 and the Cessna Skyhawk). Neither seems to strain the system. Be aware there is a learning curve; the sim is different enough from previous FS sims to require adaptation. Example, the autopilot is very different. I built my new system for about $1700 and there is nothing on it but Windows 10 and MSFS. My old CH Eclipse yoke and pedals work fine. I have not added any additional scenery or airplanes. I'm waiting to hear how the sim performs on Xbox since the specs for a PC are pretty high. Regardless, I've had a good time with the new sim so far; the scenery is amazing. -

This is mentioned in the forums.flightsimulator.com and offers a solution. I don't know if it would help in your case.
