  1. Howard's TNW 2019 rocks! It's awesome stuff, and VERY worthy of a try!
  2. LOL, We've got sloping runways in FS2004, a 16 year old sim.
  3. Maybe also find & delete the FS9.cfg file. The sim will rebuild a new one once restarted.
  4. Thanks, Peter, I did not even see that. Have fun with FSUIPC, the more you play with it, the more useful things you find. We, at our virtual flying club, Cape Virtual, took a usb keyboard, turned it sideways, & reassigned 'popular' simming keys to it, grouping common functionality stuff & labeled the keys with colour coded labels, so we flew without using the PC's keyboard at all, just a yoke, (or joystick) pedals & our 'sideways' 2nd keyboard, using the extra functionality that FSUIPC gave us. It just gave us a bit more immersion than using a PC's keyboard.
  5. LOL... Dare I mention it? From Wiki: Microsoft Flight Simulator X (abbreviated as FSX) is a 2006 flight simulation computer game originally developed by Aces Game Studio and published by Microsoft Game Studios for Microsoft Windows. I see the word 'game' mentioned quite a few times there. So, maybe you can call FSX a 'simulator' that falls into a sub division of 'Simulators' within the definition of 'Games'. Anyhow, apologies for being pedantic, due to lack of morning coffee.
  6. As you are using FS2004, the FREE FSUIPC version is under the FS2004 heading, halfway down the page: FSUIPC 3.999z9 That's all you need. However, you would probably need the payware version from: https://secure.simmarket.com/pete-dowson-fsuipc3.phtml to get the full functionallity & calibration settings. All the Readme's are in the free version! IMHO, this is one of the best add-ons you can buy.
  7. No problem at all, it's just that in FS2004, you only have 'G' as a toggle for Gear Up & Gear Down. You cannot assign separate buttons for Up & Down. So it cannot be done on the yoke's toggle. I also found FSUIPC great for calibrating far better than the default calibration setting. As a FS2004 user, I cannot speak for, or compare FSUIPC's usage within FSX.
  8. It's right there in the Miscellaneous menu of FSUIPC, right column, 'Additional Features', in the middle. (tick box - Use mousewheel for trim) FSUIPC (paid) also allows far better calibration that FS's settings, & what is great for me, has a whole lot more of key assignments that FS2004 has, including separate assignments for Gear Up & Gear Down, & that works perfectly with the toggle switch on my CHProducts yoke. Just read the manual that comes with the free version, & that will tell you all the advantages of FSUIPC
  9. Hi Roger, Thanks for all your scenery add-ons. I'm using a lot of your airfields in my Alaska only install, & they really liven up the scenery. Dont be disheartened, with the lack of downloads, it's certainly not due to disinterest. Simming is different things to different folk, & as your airfields for Alaska are obviously unique, they are a little bit niche to some of us. We all realise that interest in FS2004 is very much slowing down, but there are many of us that still use it, for various reasons, and, even though we mostly do not show our appreciation, we do value the support that developers such as yourself still give us. Yes, boredom is an enemy(!), Sometimes we just need a bit of a coffee break or 2, Hopefully, this is temporary, & I'm sure that I speak for the many 'silent types' here, when I say that we hope to see you soon. All the best regards, Robin Cape Town, South Africa.
  10. And, if you have FS2004 & a paid version of FSUIPC, it acts as a trim wheel.
  11. True, Mark. SOH has a great freeware support base - Milton & Team, Nigel with his Avro Tutor, Shessi, amongst others, so that's my personal first 'go to' site daily, then Flightsim, then maybe the others. I'm a great supporter of the freeware guys out there that still develop for us, &, within reason, I'll support anyone that supports FS2004, a few caveats-- within reason, & without rehashing add-ons. Just because it's on FB does not mean I'll ignore it, I'll check it out ever so often, & I can always 'unlike' or 'unfriend' them. We just cannot shoot the guys down, just because we do not like where they are posting stuff. Maybe a private message & suggestions to them, explaining our collective thoughts & ideas would help.
  12. Mark is very correct. Avsim & Simviation are both sadly lacking in newer add-ons & forum posts, indicating the popularity of Flightsim & SOH. Calclassic is still strong, niche driven, The Ford Tri-Motor Project site is almost forgotten I just hope that more sites, as well as freeware developers do not vanish, as happened in the past.
  13. Nels, I do agree with you. Our hobby is slowly shrinking, and maybe consolidating our knowledge base is a good idea. There seems to be quite a few social media police commenting here! For me, Facebook is way of keeping track of friends & family, as well as keeping informed & keeping track of the many interests I have, as well as sharing info & ideas amongst like minded folk. I'm a volunteer at our local Air Force base, so we have a Facebook page for our members & interested people to share when we do our Shackleton startups & other info... the list goes on. we have a local community page as well. LOL, there seems to be a lot of tin foils hats out there.. concerned about so-called privacy issues.. Remember, Google tracks you, Microsoft tracks you, your GPS tracks you, GMail, etc... the list goes on... How do you know that your FSX or P3D is not being tracked? Remember when your sim was activated? Come on guys, a big hand to those that set up that FS2004 Facebook site... all they want to do is to promote out beloved hobby. Regards, Robin (Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Android, Gmail user)
  14. There are some of us out there that DO use laptops. We are most not lessor simmers just because we do not have the latest, fastest 'box' out there, for chasing the holy grail There are also some of us that actually cannot afford to have a box for simming & a laptop for convenience, believe it! There are also some of us that do not have the latest sims, for that very reason, as well as not being all that interested in chasing frames, overclocking, tweaking & all the well discussed things to make the sim actually work well. Just remember the difference between, immersion & realism.. We have built a sim, using actual seats, throttle quadrants, pedals, etc, & we know we've hit the sweet spot, when pilots 'bump' themselves in their seats, anticipating touchdown. THAT's the immersion factor kicking in! & the sim is static. Regards, Robin
  15. I'm actually using Edge Chromium Canary & it works perfectly, & uses far less memory overhead than Firefox & Chrome.

    Deep Space

And now for something completely different! Have a look at GPDS_UD.zip that has just been released at http://www.sim-outhouse.com by Carl Reddin This download is a combination of a donationware & a freeware release from the now missing Pendercrafts website, and a totally new update, more or less based on the "Lost in Space' TV series. The scenery simulates a space flight environment within FS2004, and consists of a 180 kilometer fiameter spherical flight are, displaying a star field texture, floating & moving astroids, space stations & ships. All you need is a suitable spaceship. An ideal space craft will be the Jupiter2 model by Ronnie Pendergraft, (jup2MGEvc), that was originally on the Pendercrafts website, that no longer exists, BUT the 'wayback machine' will take you to http://web.archive.org/web/20150415012206/http:/www.pendercrafts.com/fs2004dl.htm & look for the VTOL upgrade (goddard.zip). Without this, the Flights within the download will not work. Have fun, Carl has done an amazing job & this is really something unique for FS2004, & I have actually created a separate Space install for myself. Regards, Robin
  17. Mark.. agree. FS9 just works. It's all in the immersion. & we don't need to update or PC's whenever a new sim version comes out.
  18. There have been a lot of questions and problems when installing FS2004 in Windows 10. This works! Install into C:\ NOT into C:\Program Files Install the FS2004 9.1 Update Install the FS2004 9.1 NOCD patch Right-click the desktop FS2004 icon & select ‘Properties’ 1. Select the ‘Compatibility’ tab, tick ‘Compatibility mode, 2. Pull down the menu & select ‘Windows XP (Service Pack 2) 3. Tick ‘Run this program as an administrator’ 4. Click ‘Apply’ then ‘OK’ 5. Double-click the desktop icon (Run the sim)
  19. On top of this page, click the 'File Library' tab, then 'Search Files' In the block next to 'Search for files', type VOZ This will pop up: FS2004 (ACOF) - FS2004 Scenery FS2004 Vista Australis Scenery Pack For FS2004 v1.8 Final [ Download | View | Video ] Name: voz180complete.zip Size: 628,398,929 Date: 02-06-2019 Downloads: 451 FS2004 Vista Australis Scenery Pack For FS2004 v1.8 Final. The VOZ team are are proud to bring you VOZ 1.8, a major Australian scenery and object library addition for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. This is the final release of VOZ for FS2004. VOZ 1.8 is a complete package and is not compatible with any previous versions. The only supported version is 1.8. Uploaded to FlightSim.Com with the kind permission of John Venema and Jay Kae. Click on 'Download'
  20. Thanks, now I have to set up yet another FS2004 install just for VOZ. That will be install No. 9!
  21. Erwin, thanks a lot. Appreciated. Will that French scenery work in FS2004?
  22. Your FS9 install points 1-4 is the same as a normal default install from the disks, it just takes longer (& more space) as you have to copy the contents of the Disks first. The 9.1 No-CD patch is used with any install to eradicate use of Disk4.. It MUST be used in a Windows 10 install. I'm taking it forgranted that Dave has updated his original FS2004 (his XP version) with the FS9.1 update, & has been using the no-CD Patch anyway. In his case, copy & paste, & doing the Registry Fix is by far quicker than any of the other options.
  23. David, yes you can just copy & paste! with a few provisions... Firstly you ARE probably are running a 64bit version of Windows 10 Home, as the laptop has 8GB RAM. Any competent vendor will not supply a 32bit operating system with that amount of RAM. Like you, I have a copy of my FS2004 on a portable hard drive, & have installed that copy on about 20-30 PC's at my Virtual Club, as well as 6 different versions of FS2004 on my own laptop (similar to yours). Step 1. Download & run Teracopy from https://www.codesector.com/teracopy This is the fastest file copy utilty around. Step 2. Copy & paste your complete Flight Simulator 9 folder from your portable drive into C:\ Step 3. Open up the C:\Flight Simulator 9 folder, right-click the FS9.exe & 'Send to Desktop'. Step 4. Double-click the FS9 on the desktop to run the sim. Step 5. It might/probably will not work. Step 6. Right-click the desktop icon, select the Compatibility tab, Click Compatibility Mode & select Windows XP (Service Pack2) from the pull down menu, & tick 'Run this program as an administrator' Then Apply & OK. Step 7. Run the program again.... It will/should work! Step 8. Go to https://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library & download the Registry Repair Tool, & run it. This tells the Registry where FS2004 has been installed. Step 9. If the Scenery.cfg had not been copied over from the drive, you might have to add your scenery from the Scenery library. 10. You probably have to reinstall all payware add-ons. Phew, 10 steps, but it's easier to do than to explain. I've found re-installing the sim from it's disks is actually a pain, & the above way works. You can have multiple installs just by renaming the sim folder & the exe file, after copying BUT before running. Hope this helps :-) Regards, Robin
  24. Well, I downloaded the Alaskan file from the above site. I changed the .txt extention to .data & copied it into my EZ-Landmark folder. When I loaded the sim, it came up with an error message, indicating the header (first line) of the data file, & after deleting that, & re-starting the sim, it came up with an error message indicating the first airport in the list. So, I think there is too much data in the file, for each location, & somehow it has to be stripped out to look like the existing files. It's a comma deliminated file, & I have no idea how I can strip the unwanted stuff out. Any idea's?
  25. Thanks, I did find the Misty & Glacier Bay EZLandmark files in the MM area. I have a separate Alaska install of FS2004, with Misty, Tongass Fjords & Glacier Bay, with Lago's Georender scenery as well. I've added those files from Misty Moorings & all works very well. I just downloaded the NationalFile_20181001.zip as well as the Alaskan file from the above site & I'll give then a try. I'm actually not too sure which is the appropriate file. Thanks for the advice. Robin
