  1. Budget PC, yes, expect usd 1200. But you can also buy a used gaming PC all set and ready for around 800

Search Marketplace Facebook in your area

Lets start by the most impoprtant piece. Video card. Buy a used nvidia RTX (any brand) with 8gb, expect pay usd 200

Next an i5 processor or better, clock speed above 3ghz. Stick to Intel make

    motherboard DDR5 compatible preferred

RAM memory 16gb or better DDR4 or DDR5

A good power supply of real watts for gaming with 6pin and 8pin inbuilt entries (for the video card) 600watts or 700 watts

The best monitor you can afford, 4k ready. Dont use TV or a too large monitor, if its a desktop yo need to sit near it

A good used joystick of your choice

  2. Some paywares come with House colors liveries which I have no interest cause they are not real or ever existed

Besides I only fly airlines from my country and liveries that are accurate.

I love to keep my Hangar Tidy, I delete all the Asobo planes I will never fly (except some like Pitts which Asobo force us to keep, shame), and when I see my preview Hangar i like to see the liveries I have chosen

Apparently going to Simobjects/Airplanes and deleting the apropriate livery texture folder doesnt work in some cases, either it CTD or shows black in preview hangar

If I try using //in aircraft.cfg also CTD apparently, any ideas on how to?

  3. No

    same happened to me

its a problemwith Gaming Services update

Google best advice is to go to regedit

    delete Gamingservices and Ganingservices.net

    restart pc

go to Ms Store, Updates, confirm install again of Gaming Services

    MSFS 2020 working again

people fall too often for things like format drive, memory MBR faults because they "read" and make bad selections of what they read and should do

  4. hard to believe that you reinstalled windows and still have the problem

did you install the "Official" base msfs directory in another drive?

what option you chose when reinstalling?

the "keep user account and files"?

I once had a different problem that was resolved reinstalling win 10

You should have chosen a complete clean Windows installation from Cloud, (not from the local backup), for this you must first copy all your personal files and directories, photos etc into another drive

  5. What I suspect is that the sim is focused more on indexing the add-ons at launch, rather than loading all of the data. Think of cataloguing all the books in a library. Noting the title, author and category is going to take about the same amount of time for each book, no matter how short or long each book is.

Thats what I said as the Scenery Library in Fsx...

I think you guys are wrong, I am not mad, have repeated the tests and will keep saying that other factors affect loading time, so much that they always vary, they are not exact loading times, it will depend on windows, xbox and msfs drivers accessing the servers, your ram, cpu other pc processes interfering etc.

There are 2 folders next to Official, Community and Manual Cache, none is affected at startup other than to read aircraft index to display in Hangar. The Manual Cache Folder works similar, you can have 60gb of selected areas but it wont read them and at startup, only when you are flying in that area and even so "load as needed" so as fps are kept high.

There is a thread in facebook msfs, which aside from the gamers irresponsible joking you can see a pattern in the replies. The time is more a less constant or varies with the pc rig, but all these kids have tons of mods installed. Some have read (as you people here) that size of community affects the time and say so, Its a mix of comments, but the pattern is for the vast majority with loaded community it takes a few minutes.

  6. Interesting thread. I always thought that a big community folder would slow down loading times, but it seems I may have been wrong. I will do some experimentation.

It would be nice if the sim could read a folder or two deep in the community folder really.

Just do it! do the test

yes it will take an hour of your time

but do it! dont go by what others say

I did mine, and its perfectly clear the time was not only unchanged, but shorter with a comunity with many addons

    Come on!

if it were true that community affects time, the more you put in community the longer it would take,

we know kids out there have tons in Community

they should take hours to start the sim!????

    ridiculous

The sim roughly takes an average time between 2 and 7 minutes depending on your rig, not on how much you have in community

    but enough talking

    Facts Mr Watson, facts!

  7. I decided to do my own "test"

I have Chrome running with 8 windows open, 3 spreadhseets going, XM radio in the background.

It took from start to the selection screen 2 minutes 9 seconds.

I use MSFS Add on to select what add on's I want loading. Does it help? Not sure, but I personally feel it does, and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside :D

the absolute time depends on your rig

    Mine is i5 on a sata C

Many people have fast load times

The relevant issue is differential time, with empty Community and loaded with many addons

  8. the explanation as to why sometimes you feel takes longer has to do with Microsoft

This is Windows...it runs dozens of programs in the background (despite priorities) when and how Bill pleases of which you dont have full control

So sometimes a windows update or xbox live is going on that slows the sim to activate and carry on...so the blue bar goes slower because other apps in your pc are accessing microsoft server, this is just one reason, there are more, bandwith oscilations, etc, addons that use ip, multiple displays, ebags, hardware inputs, many many, who knows...only each user knows whats running in his machine

  9. OK, your experience and mine differ. My report below was not based on a single observation (i.e. loading "for the first time"), but on many different tests. Moreover, I am an experienced flight simmer (30+ years) and have been using MSFS since it first appeared last September. I think this is a case where theory, however logical it may appear, must yield to experiment. And based what I have learned from earlier posts on this topic, my experience is typical. The fact is that having a lot of stuff in Community leads to long load times, whereas an empty Community folder is just the opposite. Have you actually tried this yourself?

Yes, I did it now as I write, excluded everything from Community (20 GB) and double clicked the msfs icon at:

    18:31 local time (21:31zulu)

18:35 it was checking for updates

18:36 France and netherlands addon splash

18:39 New Activities Splash screen, finally at

18:40 it loaded, total time 9 minutes with empty Community

Quit back to desktop, copied back the 20gig (took 14 minutes to copy back the 20gb into community) and fired up msfs at:

    18:55 fired msfs

    18:58 checking for updates

    18:59 second Paris Splash screen

    19:00 Netherlands screen

    19:00 New Activities

19:02 Main menu opens, total time 7 minutes with Community 20gb

I regret we didnt bet money on this with an international jury as mediators., would be rich by now

    case closed

    i have an i5 7400 3ghz ssd drive, medium rig...at

  10. i dont agree

the first time you make changes to community, be it adding more gigabites in addons or deleting, the game will take longer reading the new indexes, much like Scenery Library in FSX, but from the second time onwards, the loading time is unchanged, be it Community full of addons or empty

This fools many...they base themselves by the first measure of loading msfs after some change, read in Avsim an experienced user made a time test

Each time he added more sceneries to community (gb) the loading time increased,

of course!! he kept changing the scenery library (or other) incrementally

but anyway, live and be happy with your theory,

I have Community full of addons and virtually same loading time

as the first day in July 2020

  11. actually 4

    1) Real Ai Airlines traffic (this implies original Boeings and other planes)

    2) Declare Emergency feature in ATC with a simple vector to closest

    runway

    3) Built-in Replay (no, I dont like any of the addons alternatives)

    4) 3D aircraft (I mean real 3D, not illusions, being able to walk thru passenger cabin, open doors, toilet, luggage compartment above seat etc)

With the exception of the Emergency atc feature, the others are all available in fsx/p3d

What are yours most wanted (not impossible) features to be implemented?

  12. There are also programs made to turn off (without deleting) files in your Community folder. I use MSFS Addons Linker (https://www.flightsim.to/file/1572/msfs-addons-linker)

it is free and allows me to turn off whichever files, such as scenery I don't want to load up. Great way to organize and keep the load times down.

May I disagree with ALL of you?

I say Community folder affects loading times very little, you should test it yourselves.

Have tested with empty or full Community folder several times and the loading lapses are random maybe depending on other things you did before in your PC, loaded programs still there etc. In fact some loading times were shorter with a full Community folder so it doesnt make sense

From computer logic side it also doesnt make sense. The Community folder is there so the sim will look at it AFTER you have chosen to load a scenario. With aircraft yes, it looks and loads in the Hangar whatever aircraft you have in Community but its not a killer, it just reads your thumbnail planes, it doesnt "load" them. With sceneries it will only look at Community once you choose that area to fly. Same as utilities. The logic is it will load as needed.

David I also found the LInker complicated, nuisance to use, its easier just to put files in another dir and move them whenever wish to use it

I maybe wrong, someone need to do clinical tests and debugging steps to time the effects of community in loading

  13. Just came across this exciting bit of news: MSFT and Asobo will soon bring more aircraft to our hangars, including an ultralight. There's a catch, however: They're charging $9.99 for the ultralight, which will be available April 27, according to this story. But I'll bite. I want to have this option to sight see, especially in areas I already know. I earlier tried a pricier third-party ultralight, and I had a lot of problems with the sim thereafter, which I won't regurgitate here. That plane is still in my hangar, but I'm not gonna upload it again.

err, I wouldnt call an Ultralight an "aircraft" in the way we mean it. I do understand the reason thou for an additon of the ultralight.

Precisely that, cause its not a plane, it virtually has no cockpit, just the 4 main instruments pretty much like shown in external view of ANY plane. For the same reaon any pre-40s biplane or acrobatic are usually very strait forward to make

call me when the Boeing 727 is out, or the DC10

  14. I personally hate 3D cockpits, always have, and I've been simming since FS Ver. I. Hate having to start searching for instruments readouts (after scanning for traffic left or right) while tying to land or takeoff, etc. So I sure hope MSFS will incorporate a 2D panel someday - maybe even via payware?

I got used to 3D, but miss the crispy clear quality of 2Ds, eye friendly to the vets.

Dont like the distortion when you zoom your eye in or out. The window-frames get all alongated giving an unreal look, people accept it cause theres nothing that cant be done but its a serious negative about 3Ds

One thing funny though, is that a more sophisticated cockpit than the 3D is the home-made cockpit, using 3 monitors or TVs. The screens only show outside window cause the instruments are in hardware for real. OK. But some simmers will have part-hardware only, like throttle pedestal, pedals, and the main panel is shown as a fixed window in one of the monitors while another or more show the exterior.

The funny thing is that this is exactly a 2D fixed panel

  15. The sim must depict reality

This is not a race gender correctional software

Let the race discussion run elswehere. All races are welcomed, i dont care

I just want a bit of reality.

If you fly to Beijing airport, you wont see race diversity there, all airport personnel are asian chinese.

So diversity is not a MUST, it depends on reality, location. The sim should concentrate in depicting REALITY not how it SHOULD be

So the right thing to do for crew, take airline for example is as follows

Send a photographer to a main US airport *example Atlanta, and another to a european airport (Paris Charles de Gaulle)

ask this photographer to take pictures of crews as much as he can walking arriving and departing the building

Back at the office separate those photos by race and count them. Then poportional to this figure depict the pilots in the sim

Thats the right way of doing it

The rest is ONU fem hollywood or ongs talk

  16. I have always dreamed with a sim that motivates pilots to fly to some place.

For this the first person ability to walk, pretty much as we had in P3d, walk thru the plane, enter the jetway and continue to a beautiful and realistic 360 degree work of the airport inside.

If I was the sim developer I would allow walking and exploring in first person complex interior addons (that would need to be purchased since they would be a game within the sim with interaction people etc.), There were some interior airport basic interiors but not interesting at all, I mean the kind of quality you find today in animation real first person games.

But this shouldn't come free. ONLY if the flight and landing was completed successfully the plane door would be available to open and explore outside.

In a way you couldnt enter just by selecting World and airport. No. If you select world/airport you are only allowed to takeoff from that airport, starting already sitting in the cockpit.

Then you fly a complete flight and land correctly, park, call jetways...the sim opens the feature of being able to explore the airport by walking, talking to people even buying foreign stuff with your credit card from duty free that actually is sent to your home for real!!

But please remember, the fun is that this feature should be a kind of reward if you flew and landed safely respecting atc instructions parked, etc...a complete arrival that took you there, not just jumping from the PC in the main menu selecting an airport.

I always thought an empty thing when arriving and finishing a flight...thats it! arrived, menu end simulation, quit...no, I would give some local reward to the simmer, a virtual experience like if he was really there because he flew there...the airport would be the beginning but other parts of town or landscape could be provided by developers, the world is the limit.

Again, if they can be easily accessed just by jumping thru the main sim menu, I would have no interest in checking them out
