  1. So were you one of the few who bought Microsoft Flight during its short lived run? :p How we spend our free time is important. If you think jumping on the latest software release is progress, have at it, good for you. I respect the tenacity of those of you who pick up the pieces after a MSFS update cycle, who are running a complex simulator with only third-party guides, not even a user manual from the publisher. But I totally agree with author Gabriel Zamora over at PC Magazine who wrote that we shouldn't be rewarding software publishers who sell now, patch later. Doesn't that truly describe the history, the state, of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020?
  2. And the 800 pound gorilla in the room - people vote with their feet. They walk away without complaining. Or, like me, never take the step, stay with what is reliable, dependable, and still fun. But, hey, love those screen shots. :p
  3. I've remained with FSX. What I don't understand is MSFS still adhering to the "software as a service" business model which Microsoft has so clearly failed at again and again, after all. Remember when Microsoft claimed there would be no more numbered versions of Windows? I do. The release of Windows 11, under pressure after the ransomware hack of the Colonial Pipeline and other computer security horrors, well, Microsoft gave up on software as a service, that lip service silenced. And yet, MSFS rolls on as, guess what, software as some kind of service, screwing up, enraging you brave souls who bought into it, again and again, update after update. But, hey, love those screen shots! :p
  4. Dark days for aviation and for the world. Would that it could really be rebuilt, but I doubt that we'll see the likes of that amazing big plane ever again, at least not in my lifetime.
  5. Come on, Hal, man up. If the software is bad, call it by name and for what it is. You don't own stock in that company or something, right? And the forum is intended to share information with others, right? Why in the world withhold the name of a software package that caused trouble? What's the point in that? Good information might help some other poor sod (like me) avoid problems in the future, for which others, me for one, would be grateful.
  6. From CNN: https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/airline-route-maps/index.html "Route planning is dictated by a range of factors including weather, geopolitics, how much a country charges for aircraft to fly over its territory, and even runway length. Even those back-of-seat maps don't give you the full story: They'd need to be updated in real time just to keep up with variable wind speeds and political bickering."
  7. Never heard of someone trying to "separate it" - transferring a game from one account to another. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think the Steam system is set up to do that, not the way it works - for anyone.
  8. Firewall blocking your ACARS? Add your ACARS program to the 'allowed' firewall definitions and retest.
  9. Boeing C-172 - I call it "The GNU" - big, ugly, a C-17 concept plane with two GE turbofan engines.
  10. Bill, sorry to be the first on here to tell you, the scammers who bilked you out of paying - what, $127 ? - for free downloadable software probably aren't going to offer any customer service or response to your queries. Take a second look at the VirtualPilot3D web site with the knowledge that all the claims about development are outright lies, a con job. With some time and effort, you could have downloaded FlightGear and the extras, everything on those discs, for free. Maybe some value to have it already on disc media, but ... Don't believe everything you see or read on the Internet, moral of the story. Good luck finding the trainer aircraft.
  11. If you fly military planes in Europe, adjust your flight plans: From Yahoo\Business Insider: UK planes took a long detour around Germany to deliver weapons to Ukraine in case Russia invades British Royal Air Force planes [RAF C-17s] flew around German airspace when they delivered anti-tank weaponry to Ukraine on Monday, flight-tracking data from FlightRadar24 shows. https://www.yahoo.com/news/uk-planes-took-long-detour-122049839.html
  12. Not scary if you remember to make backup copies of any files you are going to change. And if the change\update doesn't work out, restore the backup copy you so wisely created ... just in case.
  13. I'm running Saitek X.52 on Windows 10\FSX with no problems. If the problem follows to other computers, it's surely your X.52 unit that's defective, sorry to say.
  14. Hedge definition is - a fence or boundary formed by a dense row of shrubs or low trees.
  15. From AXIOS.COM: "A C-17 cargo plane set a record by safely transporting 823 Afghan citizens — 200 more than originally thought — from the international airport in Kabul after the city was seized by the Taliban on Sunday. 823 passengers is an all-time record for a military aircraft that usually carries 134 passengers, including 54 on side seats and 80 on pallets on the floor." https://www.axios.com/c17-cargo-afghans-kabul-airport-a3bb9cb7-7750-43d6-9c32-8f79e405d3a3.html
  16. "Pardon me, boys Are you the cats who shot Ceausescu? You made my day The way you blew him away!" - Mark Russell Airplane used by dictator up for auction
  17. The OP is probably going to receive emails from lots of unexpected senders that have nothing to do with MSFS. From Lifewire: Any text on a web page that contains the @ character is fair game for email harvesting programs. Spammers and hackers use complex automated tools to scan the web and gather email addresses. Spammers harvest email addresses from mailing lists, websites, chat rooms, domain contact points, and much more. Understand that if you list your email address online, a spammer will find it.
  18. https://www.airliners.net/ Thousands of FedEx MD-11 pics available at that site. Have at it.
  19. :D Sorry, but can't keep from laughing. Persuade Microsoft? As grandad said, "It just don't work that way, son."
  20. True, but you've overlooked the appeal for those of us who enjoy flying "what might have been" aircraft, those that never made it off the drawing board. Or that originated from works of fiction. My grandson loves to fly the imaginary MIG-31 Firefox, like Clint Eastwood did in the movie. One of my FSX favorites is the Tupolev 330 cargo hauler, which didn't get Putin's approval, never went into production. It's not just about nostalgia. There are some of us who enjoy using our imaginations when we fly our "legacy" simulator programs.
  21. Hey, give some respect to the Sumerians around Ninevah, 1850 BCE years farther back, and their much older religion's world creation story! Though that's probably a copy of even older stories. :p Patience, yes, I'm patiently waiting for the AP fix before I consider buying MSFS.
  22. What wasn't said: Each FSTramp version can be used in full during a trial period of 20 Flight Simulator sessions. Please use the free testing phase to try out FSTramp and form your own opinion. After the evaluation phase you need a paid license key for continued activation of all functions.
  23. Being afraid to change anything on your flightsim rig is just kind of sad. “All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure.” – Mark Twain
  24. Thanks for sharing this fascinating (but depressing!) well-written story.
  25. https://www.yahoo.com/news/b-2-bomber-pilots-pull-134838704.html Here’s how B-2 bomber pilots pull off grueling 33-hour flights Short answer: methamphetamine "For especially long missions, [Captain] James said doctors will prescribe medication “in the event that those members need that little bit of extra push to help them stay focused on the mission.”
