what vintage/classic aircraft are planned for FS2020 ?

Recommended Posts

That's a great point, one I think we tend to overlook because it just... it looks so sleek and modern, so high tech... but yea, that really was long time ago! Heck, it wasn't yesterday that they grounded the fleet either.

Got to see it twice in one day, landing at CYVR, with huge vapor turbulent behind it's wings, nose down, coming in to land like some giant prehistoric robotic raptor bird... and then later that day, tiny little thing on the runway, eventually the afterburners kicked in, and then picked up some real speed and... climbing and climbing until it was out of earshot... and then out of sight.

Vancouver was not a regular destination for the Concorde. Not even entirely sure why it came, think it was a charter for some cruise ship tour? That was in... mby 1998 ? Apparently it did come to Vancouver in September of 1998, and then again in Oct 1999. Also two flights in 1986 for the world Expo86 event.

Kinda strange that they developed a working airliner to cruise at over Mach 2, just two decades after breaking the sound barrier for the first time... and today we have nothing like it.

While the Concorde was, without a doubt a tech breakthrough, it really wasn’t very feasible for commercial service. It burned fuel like a forest fire, wasn’t allowed to land anywhere in the U.S. except a couple of airports because of the noise, cold carry only about 70 passengers, etc.

I had the honor of touring on-board in 1974 or 1975, don’t remember exactly which year, at Boston airport when I was attending an airframe and powerplant school for the opportunity to take the FAA tests for Airframe and Powerplant mechanic certificates. The most memorable thing was when I extended my arms to the side, and was able to touch both sides of the cabin without moving. This was of course, before the airplane was certified in the U.S. for service, and was on a “demo” tour.

Oh no doubt it's fuel to passenger ratio was horrific! And multiplied by the sudden scarcity of petroleum products during the oil crisies of the 1970's, pretty much spelled doom for Concorde.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1970s_energy_crisis

But it was amazing, beautiful, provided good service and a good safety record IMO. sure, there were few of them and one crashed, but the crash didn't happen because of the Concorde, but a part that fell off a DC-10 that cut the tires and ruptured the fuel tank. So while it could have been designed to be more robust for a tire burst, I think it's not so easy to simply dismiss it's safety record.

Lockheed C-130 Hercules news!

Ok nothing to get too excited about, but it does seem like there are two different C-130 projects going on right now for MSFS. There is apparently seemingly a C-130H (meaning the most numerous variant used for decades) being made by a guy named Kenny on Discord. Very little is known, and I can't even track down the name of the team, they have renamed or merged or something. I've no idea if it's for payware or freeware. They posted one screen, looked decent, of what appears to be a grey ANG C-130H. The textures didn't look super awesome, but that doesn't mean much because: repaint skins can improve that, also the screenshot didn't show closeup, so it might be much better texture than I can see in the screen. On the upside, the general geometry appears to be very much like the real item.

A different project is being done by Milviz, who are an experienced FS developer with near 2 decades experience! The downside is... we know nothing beyond that they have stated they are making an RAF C-130 variant. Which variant? Who knows... it could be the C-130K that served the RAF for 5 decades until 2013 (basically an H model but with K designation for export), or the Hercules C.Mk 3 from 1978,

or could be a modern C-130J Super Herc with fancy props and glass cockpit, that are being retired now to make way for the A-400M Atlas.

Anyway, my favorite for MSFS is the H, as this is the basis for most Hercules flying all around the world for 5 decades and growing. Originally equiped with steamgauges, some had the HSI and ADI upgraded to computer color gauges, and the mounting of a GPS , while usually leaving the rest of the cockpit alone.

Edit: it seems the Milviz appears to be a C-130J Super Hercules variant with 6 blade props and glass cockpit.

Boeing 247D

This is a vintage airliner, a little like a smaller DC-3 in that it uses aluminum construction, two big radials, tail dragger config...

An ambitious project (seemingly) just getting started:

https://redwing-copter.com/menu-1935/

Promising a great deal (perhaps too much), but having just bought the Boeing 247D, and idly thinking about reliving some old Imperial Airways routes (although they never had this aircraft), I'm intrigued by this... Even with a few recreated airports this could be a lot of fun. There's already a freeware Croydon Airport on flightsim.to. With a Le Bourget and Amsterdam Schiphol to go with it, that'd be a pretty good start

Fully Agree to you . personally I prefer play with vintage planes than with computers flying ( even if in real I prefer to be in security in one of these computer flying(( when no bugs occuring)) .last times we can be happy with great vintages planes like DC-6- Elektra L10 and some others that was so lacking at FSMS begining

Those vintage sceneries look interesting.... does anyone know details about it? Specifically, many of the airport names they are developing, have giant modern airports today. Sooo.... does this product, when finished, overwrite those "current" airports with an old grass field and two buildings? Never to see the modern ones again?

Or are they choosing an empty field close by, to put the "vintage" airport, while 747's fly by on approach?

Or is it going to be a different .exe that if you click the Vintage one, you get just vintage airports, and after exting and clicking the normal flightsim.exe you get all the modern terrains?

Just curious!

I can't speak to BRSIM Designs, the makers of the plane, the screens look impressive though.

But it's sold through simmarket.com and they are big, like 10,000 products, they've been around a very long time. Meaning lots of repeat customers, they have something to lose if things don't go well.

https://secure.simmarket.com/brsimdesigns-ercoupe-415c-msfs.phtml

20 Euros, not too bad! that's about $21.79 United States Dollars, according to a quick Giggle of the exchange rates.

It's a German company:

https://secure.simmarket.com/impressum.php

Simmarket is the branding for the English website, but the actual legal name of the company is simflight gmbh, which I searched for "established":

https://www.dnb.com/business-directory/company-profiles.simflight_gmbh.7c3d20f4db1788e2b5ad72bd93987a47.html

Doing Business As: simFlight GmbH

Company Description: simFlight GmbH is located in Kaltenkirchen, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany and is part of the Professional and Commercial Equipment and Supplies Merchant Wholesalers Industry. simFlight GmbH has 12 total employees across all of its locations and generates $1.79 million in sales (USD). (Employees figure is modelled, Sales figure is estimated).

Incorporated: 2007

This link suggests it's start in 1997. Which may be true, might have started as sole proprietor, and the incorporation date in the previous may have come much later as sales grew.

Here's their sales policies:

https://secure.simmarket.com/faq.php

My conclusion is that they seem as trustworthy as any online retailer can be, at least on a quick surface check! Personally I wouldn't hesitate with them.

Ignore the sounds, the video maker says he was using a mod that changes the sound volumes so you don't get a real idea what the product sounds like.

Also, the real plane and this sim version do not use rudder peddals to steer on the ground, you steer using the yolk like a car! Pretty wild!

Captainsim have released an incomplete C-130. Has no Herc soundpack, default King Air sound. Doesn't fly right. No gauges, no panel, no virtual cockpit, no cockpit at all. For $15 US. I can't recommend it. I'm now boycotting the company.

See youtube videos about it. Also my thread below.

McDonnel Douglas MD-82

FLY THE MADDOG X MSFS

LEONARDO SOFTWARE HOUSE SRL

EUR 75.00

https://secure.simmarket.com/leonardo-software-house-srl-fly-the-maddog-x-msfs.phtml

https://www.flythemaddog.com/site/

The reviews seem to all be positive. This is a "Study level" product, meaning, it's not just "kick the tires, light the fires let's go flyin'!!!", but rather it represents enough to be of use to pilots wanting to get an MD-80 type rating, near all the buttons work as expected, flies right. The artistry in the cockpit and exterior model is top quality.

About the only concern is the price, so this may not be for virtual pilots who don't need the realism or complexity... but for those that do love such things, you get a lot for the money even if it's a lot of money!

LOCKHEED L-1049 SUPER-CONSTELLATION

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBUHFz3c3igde86uNOWhv7Q

by RedWing Team

https://redwing-copter.com/aircraft-l1049/

I know it's already been posted, but I realised now that the post didn't show the video, it didn't "pop!!!" and could get "lost" among fancier posts... and after seeing the CS Hercules fiasco (less than middle-ground freeware at payware prices?!?), I wish to promote teams that make great vintage planes for MSFS!

Wright Flyer (Kitty Hawk)

Spirit of St. Louis, a collaboration with the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum to bring the “Spirit of St. Louis,” to the 40th Anniversary Edition.

Douglas DC-3 from Aeroplane Heaven

Gee Bee R-2

DeHavilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver, float amphibian

Airbus A310-300 by Inibuilds (though not that "vintagey" looking, it's almost gone from passenger service these days, also, this is a full study sim, with an EFB, FMS and all that jazz)

MS will re-introduce some classic airports (no idea which ones or where... but I kinda think that Chicago's Meigs field, and Hong Kong Kai Tak might be two that could be resurected??)

also arriving are 2 sailplanes and the physics for them, and 2 helicopters (neither are vintage though) and the physics for those as well!!

My favorite vintage airliner, other than of course the DC-3, is the Lockheed Constellation. With its curved top line and triple tail stabilizers, it is just a beautiful aircraft.

The "Coney" its already completed right?
