RTW Retro Flight #93 Amsterdam to Zurich . . . 1962

KLM flight 593 is a Lockheed Electra L-188C on a flight from Amsterdam to Zurich (EHAM - LSZH). We have 1,400 gallons of fuel on board for the 327 nm flight of about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Moderate cloud cover is reported and we will be cruising at an altitude of 17,000 feet.

12. Having skirted the southeastern edge of Belgium we are passing over Trier, Germany near the Luxembourg border. Trier is known for some well-preserved old Roman structures.

13. Still over southwestern Germany just a few miles from the French border we see the city of Zweibrücken.

14. Just a short distance from the French and German border with Strasbourg and the Rhine River off our left wing below.

15. With Bonndorf, Germany off our right wing and about 25 nm from Zurich we begin our initial descent.

16. Very near the western border of Switzerland and 15 nm out we are descending through 9,000 feet.

17. We have crossed the border into Switzerland at 5,000 feet.

Fine flight!

"Aachen below but obscured by clouds": Ach! :):) And BTW, Zweibrücken translates in French like "deux ponts"
