Fantastic shots Adam, I'm tempted to try a couple myself now...

Klee, there's only the Steam version but no-one should be put off by that - and I get far higher FPS in FSW than I do in FS9 on the same PC!

Adam these shots are amazing. The rain on the glass is so wow-ish. You are really tempting me to buy this sim. Thank you for sharing.

Great looking set! FSW is coming along nicely, but frames drop quite a bit when flying in the rain.

Not trying to troll or anything, and disregarding all the other merits FSW may or may not have, but seriously, in essence scenery in FSW = FSX scenery + Orbx FTX. So I don't see much difference with FSX + Orbx!

Again, if MS FS based simulators have a future, it will be either FSW or P3D (or both), but unfortunately, both DTG and LM gambled on 64bit to lure simmers rather than completely rewriting an IMHO obsolete scenery engine (and the transition to 64bit would have been an ideal opportunity).

Great shots as always Adam! I like the colors much better in this posting. It seems to do better with blues than with shades of tan or brown.

Having said that, I have to admit the River looks a little flaky with all the segment lines showing in shot #7.

Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.

As a computer professional for a living, hardware, it is my humble opinion that FSX (of whom I am a religiously loyal fan and advocate) has a shortfall in being a single core application. and 32 bit. That has been the way it was coded from the start Microsoft disowned it and refused to patch it with a multi-core update. There should be a huge performance leap if we get a sim that utilises the advances in hardware that took place over the past 12 years. Yes I do have a fairly good hardware setup as you can see from my signature block, and I do have FTX + ORBX but it does not yield anything as photo realistic as what we are seeing out of FSW. I will never part with my FSX if I can help it, but this is a very serious temptation. My two cents' worth.

They did add limited multi core support in SP1, and were working toward better support for the next version. Unfortunately those plans were cut short. Multi-threaded applications are not easy to do, and even most AAA games today really only use 2-4 cores.

I had great hopes for FSW. Got it for free as I have purchased their $15.00 Flight Sim School. Sadly I have been disappointed with it and it's performance and washed out contrast. I am also running 3 27" 144Khz monitors and the performance in Surround is not good.

On the upside I will keep it installed and check back on it about every 6 months to see how they are coming along. It is a great time to be a flight simmer and we are seeing that with all the different platforms being released. That can only be good for us. :)

Klee, Tim, Khalid, Jason, Aharon, Kenny, Michael, Jan, thank you much fellas. :)

Klee, like Tim said the performance is outstanding with the 64bit even with raindrops and all sliders to the right, it runs as smooth as silk and none of the OOM stuff. Did I mention it has Integrated Orbx FTX Global textures. :)

RatRace, performance wise FSW beats the crap out of FSX with it's 64 bits, that my friend is the difference!

Michael, I think REX is going to do a free hot-fix so it can be used in FSW and Aerofly2 if i'm not mistaken. :)

Ross, you must have some serious hardware problems is all I can say. smile.png

Some FSW features and it's only going to get better.

  • Integration of Accu-Feel technology
  • Fleet of highly detailed GA aircraft
  • Easy to use flight planner
  • Realistic flight model
  • Integrated Orbx FTX Global textures
  • Lessons and missions to test your skills
  • Pilot profile to keep track of your flight hours
  • Pro Mission Editor
