kalizzi
More love from Jennifer: ( ;) ) Thanks for the nostalgia, Jan. Yes its been ages since I saw this model, Aviation Traders Carvair, DC-4 based too, airlines used this to ferry cars (had it in Observer's book of aircraft, donkeys of years ago). Wonderful shot, too. kalizzi
Thank you Jan and Larry for the radial-engined beauties (the 7w Spartan Executive and the Beech 18). jankees
excellent idea for a thread, this, I love good freeware, and if I find a good one, I try to make repaints for it in order to bring it to peoples attention. KCD
Well, somehow I got sidetracked yesterday and never got back. In the meantime, more and more excellent freeware aircraft have found their way to this thread. Here are a few more. First, because Jan brought up the DC4, any of the DCs, from 2 t0 7-B are worth having and a joy to fly. I'm not a lover of Jet Tubes (Greyhounds of the sky), but I do enjoy the later days of the "Fate Is The Hunter", here then is a DC-6B that I have flown on and this, the DC-7B, and the early Connies, are about as new and big as I care to go. There are lots of these old flying machines available at Cal Classics, all are superb... Yesterday, I seemed to stir up the pot somewhat by mentioning the models of Mike Stone. To clarify my position, I believe Mike provided us with a plethora of well made basic flying machines. I never downloaded one that didn't fly well. As I said, some were lack-luster in their presentation, but they did fly. I post his Comanche here; it's one of my favorite airplanes. I have removed Mike's skin and repainted it in a vintage Piper livery, with factory colors that were frequently used on this plane in the day, I hope you like it... And... And, because Mike never concentrated on panels, I remedied the situation by trying to duplicate, as best I could, what the plane actually had for a panel, somewhat updated for modern flight. You may have gathered that one of the ingredients, to my way of thinking, in a good freeware model is how well it serves the test of time, can it move from sim generation to sim generation. Here is another favorite from the past. I spent all the years I had FS2002 trying to make this one fly in that sim, and I was partly successful, but not completely. When FS9 came along, and I moved into it, I naturally brought it along. It has been a labor of love to get this flying in FS9, and thanks to a very savvy fellow here, it finally does, and does so very well. This is the freeware FS2000 Cessna 177 RG, as seen in the skies of FS9... This aircraft, cannot be had in FS9 as freeware, although it was freeware in FS2000. Mike's Comanche I show you just to give you an idea of what you might be able to do with a freeware model that fails to live up to your expectations. Rather than complain that the skins were weak, or that the doors don't open (who needs them anyway), improve the situation , make it better, take the time, dig in, who knows, you might find something you enjoy as much as flying them; I did. We, as a community, drove one of the better and more prolific molders away by taking the wrong course. I hope we've learned from that mistake. The many molders who spend countless hours developing planes, gauges and scenery for us to enjoy deserve far better than we gave Mike Stone, and we should never forget that It is those folks that have kept both FS( and FSX alive, not Microsoft, and they will continue to live and be strong only as long as we support these great artists who feed our hobby. There, I'm getting off the soapbox.

mrzippy
I love the Spartan , you have a link please? Even better than a link, here is a tip for searching our fabulous File Library. In the search box type in Milton Shupe Spartan Executive and you will be able to scroll through the small amount of files to find the FS2004 Spartan Executive and the small update file to make it FSX compatible. Using this method for search, you won't have to wait for a response back. Very nice aircraft, indeed! Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer! mrzippy
Thankies Zippy, quite, but sometimes there are half a dozen versions of the same aircraft posted. One download...many liveries. That's why I suggested using Milton's name as part of the search. I just redid the search and out of the 4 pages listed there was only 1 full aircraft and the reset were repaints and the FSX upgrade file. This is good practice for you so you don't have to wait around begging for links. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!

That's why I suggested using Milton's name as part of the search. ...copied that, will proceed. many thanks indeed Zippy. bests to you! Update: got it, along with the FSX SP2 Update. Downloading repaints. BTW- this plane is one of the great ones that earned Flightsim.com Developers awards, I still remember having it in my FS9. Baffles me why this award was discontinued? I remember downloading another that had this award, an FS2004 Martin B-26 marauder. It was awesome and payware grade. I have so many of the payware models you repaint, will be very busy registering and downloading. Please can I ask where you get the Grumman J2F Duck base model? I couldn't find it on here. Found many on the internet -one from Rikooo, just don't know which one to install, has to be the one you repainted so many times? Ahh, I see an opportunity to recycle some old caps here. The Blimp gondola looks very interesting, with a marriage of pre-WW2 radials and a 70s like radome. So this served in Atlantic convoy escorting / ASW? looks so post WWII though. I'll google that. Airships, rigids, dirigibles and blimps have always been a source of fascination to me. I have the Enstrom but being not much of a rotary wing guy myself I forgot to post any of its SC's. The package comes in a well rounded payware quality with a professional installer as I remember.
