Inibuilds EGNM Leeds Bradford airport v.1.0.1 is required for this mod. The current parking spots at this airport only allow for one airliner to park at each of the two jetways, which is not realistic. This mod changes all the Ramp parking spaces on the main apron to Gates, so that the full amount of your selected percentage of airline AI Traffic can park. GA traffic will now only park on the Multiflight aprons across the runway from the terminal buildings. -
Review: Orbx Leeds Bradford Airport For Microsoft Flight SimulatorBy MrYorkiesWorld /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-01.jpgIntroductionHello there guys, my name isMrYorkiesWorld, and once again I'm back with yet another sceneryreview. This time around we're taking a look at the new Orbx LeedsBradford Airport package for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The airportitself carries the ICAO code of EGNM. It's a fantastic piece ofscenery that runs really well inside the simulator, so I'm excited totell everyone about it. As always, I'd like to thank my good friend Dominic Smith, and theteam over at FlightSim.Com for providing me with a copy of thisscenery from Orbx. it truly is remarkable. /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-06.jpg /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-07.jpgPerformanceThe performance at Leeds Bradford is pretty impressive as I wasable to get frame rates of between 45 and 60 FPS depending on whataircraft I was using, along with what weather and also time of day. Inoticed the usual stuttering from the simulator when panning around orusing SimConnect-reliant programs such as LittleNavMap, but overall, Iwas happy to get a pretty good flying experience from thisairport. When reviewing scenery, I like to do a few circuits at lowaltitudes in the Cessna or similar light aircraft so as to see thingsup close. It's all fine and dandy flying over at 3,000+ feet, but Ithink the real beauty comes from seeing things up close and personalat around 1,000 to 1,500 feet in the air, possibly less onoccasions. /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-04.jpg /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-14.jpgNight LightingI haven't been able to see any negatives with any scenery in FlightSimulator 2020 at night as the sim just looks simplyincredible. However, I did take the time to see what Leeds Bradfordlooked like at night, and yet again I was very impressed with howthings looked in regards to dynamic lighting around the airport, aswell as the lighting of the runway, apron and taxiways. The terminalbuildings looked pretty nice as well. Night lighting is difficult to do, because all it needs is onebadly lit object to let the whole scenery down. However, in the caseof Leeds Bradford, the overall effect was really nice. Orbx have donea fantastic job in my opinion with the textures also looking crispeven in low light. /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-02.jpg /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-03.jpgI love how things look in the evening or early morning as well -there's nothing quite like the lovely view of an early morning or lateevening shot taken at this airport. Everything just looksstunning! One thing I didn't like though were the "floating" lights we seemto have in the simulator at present. This doesn't seem to be isolatedto Leeds Bradford, and so it's not Orbx' fault, but I wonder if theremight have been some way for Orbx to get around this? /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-16.jpg /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-17.jpgGraphics, Textures And ModelsWhen it comes to the modelling and texturing of Leeds Bradford,it's safe to say that it looks absolutely stunning. When using the"drone camera" I was able to see some really nice-looking textures andeffects. One of the things I didn't like though was how some of thetextures, despite most of them being really good, seemed a littleblurry. I could tell when closing in on the terminal buildings and thesignage and advertisements that the texture quality seemed a littlelow. I also noticed some cars from the car park seemed to beincorrectly placed making them look as if they had crashed through thebillboards which is a bit unrealistic. Some of the warning and hazard signs featured around the airportwere also a little blurry when viewed close up, but for the sake ofactually flying into and out of the airport, it's really not thatimportant at all. /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-10.jpg /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-11.jpgOrbx have done a good job at recreating the runway at LeedsBradford, as the textures look really crisp. Not only that, but thePAPI lights seem to work well and are accurate. However, I do think some of the areas such as near the entrance tothe airport need a bit of work, as they are very blurry and of poorquality. It literally goes from being a really good set of visuals onthe terminal buildings, to what looks like grass and blurry roadtextures just outside the front doors, so perhaps these issues can beaddressed in future updates? /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-12.jpg /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-13.jpgAccuracySo having seen Leeds Bradford Airport on Bing and Google Maps, andalso from various other sources online, it's clear that Orbx have donea really good job at mimicking (within limitations), that of its reallife counterpart. Yes, there are differences in building textures andmodels, but when viewed in its entirety, these come across as minorand overall, I'm satisfied with how that things look. /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-05.jpg /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-15.jpgPrice Point And MarketplaceLeeds Bradford Airport is available in both the Orbx Central app,as well as inside the Microsoft Flight Simulator store for around£13.67 GBP, and in my opinion, at this price, it's definitelyworth purchasing. Orbx seem to have lowered a lot of their prices on products as oflate, which seems to tie in with many peoples' expectations thatprices would plummet (at least temporarily) once the new simulator wasreleased. That said though, even though their prices have lowered, their quality seems (for the most part), to have stayed the same, andin the case of Leeds Bradford Airport, I think the price is spoton. /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-08.jpg /images/reviews/msfsleed/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-09.jpgFinal VerdictOverall, when it comes to visuals, Orbx have really impressed mewith this piece of scenery. Leeds Bradford is one of the airports inthe simulator that I'll probably be visiting quite often once the PMDGand Aerosoft aircraft are released, and even for now with my short VFRflights in lighter aircraft, I seem to be visiting the airport quite abit. Review: Orbx Leeds Bradford Airport Prepar3DBy Alex Dickinson /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-01.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-02.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-03.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-04.jpgIntroduction"Ah up lad" is a popular Yorkshire greeting term to compliment thenext airport I shall be reviewing; the aptly named "Yorkshire'sAirport" of Leeds Bradford. This is an airport I know incredibly well,as I worked and studied there for almost 5 years. Due to this, I wouldregard Leeds Bradford Airport as a second home. ReputationLeeds Bradford is well known to UK flight simmers, but due it tobeing quite a lot smaller than say Gatwick, Stanstead, Birmingham, etc., it tends not to get the publicity, which is a shame as it hasquite a lot going for it. Leeds Bradford Airport is located in Yeadon, in the City of LeedsMetropolitan District in West Yorkshire, England, about 7 milesnorthwest of Leeds city center, and about 9 miles from Bradford citycenter. It is the highest airport in England at an elevation of 681 feet(208 m). Not only this, but Leeds Bradford's runway is orientatednorth/south, unlike the traditional west/east setup at most other UKairports. The consequences of this, is that the airport is susceptibleto nasty crosswinds, as well as wind shear. This notoriety couldpotentially be the reason as to why it appears to be popular amongstflight simulation enthusiasts. /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-05.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-06.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-07.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-08.jpgTerminal AreaThe terminal building at Leeds Bradford has been standing for sometime now, and over the decades it has been extended numerous times toinclude passenger walkways, large seating areas, and airbridges. Itlacks the newer modular type design of modern airports and manycritics argue that the airport needs a revamp, as currently it is verydilapidated. LandsideDue to its design, the terminal building can be very tricky tomodel, but I have to say that I am impressed with how well thedevelopers at Orbx have managed to get it to look. The 3D modelfeatures extensive use of PBR, and the attention to detail overall isgood. North of the terminal are the warehouses, offices, and cateringfacilities which I felt were also accurately modelled. An area I likedvery much was the terminal landside area, as it included vast amountsof detail, such as vehicles, signage and 3D objects. There is also aTravelodge hotel, as well as numerous car parking facilities. OverallI would say this is a highly accurate rendition of the landside area, bar one or two minor omissions. AirsideUnfortunately I cannot say the same for the airside area as Inoticed a fair number of discrepancies. Firstly, on stand 3 there usedto be two rectangular buildings of the same length, both located northand south of this stand. If my memory serves me correctly, thesebuildings were both used by Jet2 for their baggage processing. Thishas since been edited to only have a small portion of the southernbuilding remaining, despite the north building remaining as is (Googlemaps can give a clearer visual explanation to this). On the Orbx P3Dversion of the scenery, this small protrusion is missing, as well as alarge sheltered passenger area adjacent to stand 14. Also, on stand 6there is a bus which is off placed, which means that it would not bepossible to park on this stand without colliding with this object. /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-09.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-10.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-11.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-12.jpgAnother issue I encountered was where taxiway "D" meets the runway,as just adjacent to this is a holding point marked with the letter"J". This area has what looks to be a large turning circle, but inreality, it is no longer used by neither air traffic or groundvehicles. Due to this fact, I would argue that having ground vehicleslocated here in the Orbx version is actually rather unrealistic. Thearea in real life is very run-down, and includes an abandonedbuilding, which unfortunately has not been modelled. Overall I foundthis area to look far too fresh and nothing like how it is in reallife. VehiclesI can tell you first hand from working at Leeds Bradford, thatthere are so many ground handling vehicles around, it is often a realchallenge to store them all, which results in cramped storageareas. Knowing how well the X-Plane version had modelled this, I waseager to see how it looked in P3D, but was disappointed to see that itwas lacking. Orbx's use of ground equipment was minimal here, whichallowed for the airport to feel decidedly empty. If Orbx could liventhis area up in a future update, then this would make a bigdifference. However, despite my criticism here, I do have to point outthat I liked how well the objects were modelled, as they looked highlyauthentic. SODE JetwaysLeeds has a unique layout when it comes to its airbridges, as itonly has two of them (both on stands 7 and 8), with each one beingdifferent to the other. Stand 8's airbridge is what I would refer to asa "Fully movable airbridge", which means that it is able to moveforward, backwards, left and right, plus up and down, as compared tostand 7, where it can only move forwards and backwards. /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-13.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-14.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-15.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-16.jpgThis was something I was keen to test out, as the above couldeasily trip up even the most talented of developers, but I am pleasedto say that this level of detail and immersion has been wellreplicated by Orbx. Both airbridges not only worked like their reallife counterparts, but also featured the appropriate signage. Overall, some great attention to detail. Night LightingUsing Prepar3D, the night lighting at Leeds Bradford was generallyvery good, but not perfect. The light intensity from the flood lightsworked well and was accurate, with areas such as the car parks, airport entrance and signage all being visible. The front of theterminal is where I would say the best use of the lighting was to beseen, whilst at stands 7 and 8, I would say it is a bit lackluster dueto dark spots. On the remote stands however, there seemed to be verylittle at all. Static AircraftOrbx's rendition of Leeds Bradford Airport features a number ofstatic aircraft from different airlines, and these include BritishAirways, KLM, Jet2, and Ryanair. Located on stand 3 is a KLM Embraer, which is a frequent site at the airport, and one I have personallyworked on. Now whilst the model of this aircraft is nicely done, Ihave to question its placement, as the largest aircraft you wouldprobably see at this stand is a Saab 2000 (I could be wrong though, soplease correct me). Also, the static model of the British AirwaysEmbraer has no place at the airport, as these are exclusive to LondonCity Airport, and Leeds is not one of its destinations. Most of theliveries are done to a reasonable standard, but I found the outdatedRyanair livery to be a bit of an eyesore. /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-17.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-18.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-19.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-20.jpgRunway And AssetsMoving on to the modelling of the main runway, I have to say thatOrbx have done a great job here, as it's highly accurate and includessome great texturing. However, I feel there are some aspectssurrounding the runway which have not been given the attention theydeserve. For starters, on approach to runway 14, you will notice thatthe PAPI lights are to the left of the runway, when in reality theyshould be to the right. Secondly there are no runway stop lights atthe end of either runway, or any guard lights. There also seems to bea lack of smaller buildings around the runway, such as the ILSantennas and the NDB. Again, if Orbx could address these in a futureupdate, it would go a long way in improving the experience. General Aviation AreaThe GA section of the airport is another area in which I felt couldhave been improved upon. Whilst it wasn't terrible, I felt that itcould have been a lot busier. The structures which were present, wereall modelled to a high standard, but there just wasn't enough ofthem. In real life it's full of clutter, but in this scenery itwas...sparse. Adding additional objects such as aircraft, people, barrels, etc. would really help bring this area to life. /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-21.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-22.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-23.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-24.jpgSurrounding AreaCompared to the version by UK2000, Orbx' rendition of LeedsBradford Airport features a far better representation of thesurrounding area. I was able to recognise individual buildings as faras the village of Yeadon; the "Hawthorne" pub for example (great aleby the way), as well as the Leeds Bradford Airport Industrial Estate.Another aspect of the scenery I was impressed with was the terrainmodelling. Unlike Heathrow, which sits on a flat plain, Leeds BradfordAirport has a pretty dynamic landscape, full of ups and downs, and Icouldn't help but be impressed by the way the airport seamlesslyblended into the surrounding landscape. I really felt that I wasthere...and that's saying something! PerformanceOne of the positives of having a scenery which is "lite" on detail,is that frame rates are generally good, and Leeds Bradford Airport isno exception. Considering my PC is far from the quickest, I was reallyimpressed by how it performed. With Orbx's excellent Englandinstalled, the results were butter smooth! ConclusionSo now we come to the conclusion and I must say, it's quite a hardone to summarise. This is a scenery I wanted very much to enjoy, especially with the personal connection I have with the airport; afterall five years is a long time. So whilst it's true I had moments offun (even nostalgia), it's also equally true to say that the sceneryleft me frustrated. None of the issues are major game changers, it'sjust a real shame they are there. If the developers could take thetime to go back and address the issues mentioned in this review, thenI believe this would be a scenery easy to recommend. /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-25.jpg /images/reviews/orbxbrad/t/orbx-leeds-bradford-26.jpgIs it better than the UK2000 rendition? Well it depends on what youwant. If you're a GA flyer then I would say that the UK2000 versionhas the edge here, but if you're a heavy metal pilot, then I wouldprobably lean towards the Orbx version. The low price of £16 isalso very compelling, so one has to factor this in as well. At the end of the day it comes down to...can you live with theissues mentioned. If you can, then I believe you'll have a great dealof fun at Leeds Bradford Airport. However for myself...I'm hopingthat Orbx can inject a bit more life into the airport before I call itmy "second home" again. Alex Dickinson Purchase Orbx - Leeds Bradford Airport For Prepar3D

Review: Orbx Leeds Bradford AirportBy Paul MortWelcome to my latest review, LeedsBradford Airport by Orbx. This particular airport was eagerly awaitedwith anticipation for two reasons. Firstly, it's not far from where Ilive (53 miles), and secondly, it was developed by Orbx, who as we allknow, have created some amazing scenery for X-Plane of late. So, wouldLeeds Bradford maintain that reputation, or would it miss the runway?Let's find out! /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/1.jpgA Brief HistoryLeeds Bradford Airport is located in Yeadon, in the city of LeedsMetropolitan District in West Yorkshire, England, about 7 miles (11km)northwest of Leeds city centre, and about 9 miles (14km) from Bradfordcity centre. Work commenced on the first terminal in the late 1930s,although only the first wing was completed before the Second WorldWar. Leeds Bradford opened on 17 October 1931 when it was known asLeeds and Bradford Municipal Aerodrome or Yeadon Aerodrome. Localsstill refer to it as Yeadon Airport, largely used for general aviationand training purposes early on, the first scheduled flights commencedon 8 April 1935. It serves Leeds and Bradford and the wider Yorkshire regionincluding York and Wakefield, and Harrogate, and is the largestairport in Yorkshire. The airport was in public ownership until May2007, when it was bought by Bridgepoint Capital for £145.5million. Bridgepoint sold it in 2017 to AMP Capital. It was recentlythe subject of a multi part TV documentary showing not only theairport but the daily lives of the employees. Initial ImpressionsPlease note that all screen shots in this review were taken usingOrbx True Earth Northern scenery. My first impressions of Leeds Bradford Airport were very favourableindeed. Taking off with my trusty Bell 206 helicopter (complete with aLBA repaint), I made a high pass over the airfield and was veryimpressed with the crispness of the scenery and the surrounding OrbxTrue Earth ground textures. The screen shots below show the main airport from above. As you cansee, the fields are extremely lifelike in both colouring andtexture. /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/2.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/3.jpgJumping to ground level; it was nothing short of brilliant to seethe quality and texturing of the grass bordering the Jet2building. Grass and ground texturing is something that is oftenoverlooked by developers, so the quality on offer here was a reallynice touch. /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/grass1.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/grass2.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/grass3.jpgMoving in on the terminal, it was time to see if the main airportbuildings looked as good close up as they did from the air. The answer was...they looked even better! /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/4.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/5.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/6.jpgThe main terminal building and apron are beautifully modelled withplenty of animated vehicles driving around. For a keen flight simmerlike myself, this is the stuff that gives life to an airport! /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/7.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/8-5.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/8.jpgI'm sure that most people who have read my previous reviews arewell aware of my views on ortho textures, so I was overjoyed to seethere were no horrible flat cars with this scenery. Quite the oppositein fact, because not only were they all nicely modelled, I even sawcars driving around looking for parking spaces! /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/9.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/10.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/10-5.jpg Something that an awful lot of scenery developers are guilty of, ispoor texturing and build quality on secondary objects. My onlyassumption is that they consider these objects to be not lessimportant, as they are usually hidden out of the way. This is not thecase however with Orbx. One example being the Travelodge Hotel whichis situated right on the perimeter of the airport. As you can see fromthe screen shots, is both nicely modelled and textured. /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/11.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/12.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/12-5.jpgThis was just one example, because during my time at the airport, Ikept on finding all sorts of interesting elements. The inclusion ofthe parking area for utility vehicles was another, and again a nicetouch, and whilst not essential, Orbx deemed it important enough toinclude. /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/13.jpgFinally I visited the multi flight aprons which are for smalleraircraft and helicopters. Needless to say, the same care and attentionwas seen at this part of the airport too. /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/14.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/15.jpgThe multi flight east apron with supporting buildings was a greataddition to the scenery, as was the vehicle tunnel under therunway. /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/16.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/17.jpgBeing located in an industrial area, I expected to see factoriesand rows of terraced houses, and I was not disappointed. The HawthornFarm pub on the roundabout look very similar to some in my area. /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/18.jpg FeaturesFull PBR representation of Leeds Bradford Airport and surroundings. Includes EGHP Heliport one kilometre north of the airport. HD textures throughout. PBR ground polygon with dry, damp and wet states. Highly detailed PBR ground service equipment and clutter models. Realistic road traffic on surrounding streets. 60cm ortho imagery blended to match True Earth GB Central. Includes realistic approach and airport lighting. Detailed HD PBR static aircraft models. Custom animated GSE with HD people models. SAM-controlled dynamic marshallers. Hand crafted, realistic sloping runway.Detailed ortho imagery and terrain. With such a detailed set of features, I'm pretty sure that thisscenery would satisfy even the most critical of sim pilots. Iparticularly liked the PBR ground polygons with dry, damp and wetstates. The result of this was that there was a reflective glisteningof the aprons, taxiways and runway as though it had just beenraining. /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/19.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/20.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/21.jpgReview SystemThis scenery was tested on the following computer configuration: Windows 10 64 bit Intel core i5-3350P CPU @ 3.1 GHz16 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX1050 TiDuring my testing, there was no lag to be observed, or any abnormalframe-rate drops. Purchase Price The retail price of this product (at time of writing), was asfollows: $32.95 AUD, $22.47 US, 20.33 Euro, £17.41 GB. Night LightingNight lighting seems to be another area in which Orbx excel at, asthe airport looked superb. There were no 'baked' on textures;everything looked highly authentic, as you can see in the screen shotsbelow. /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/22.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/23.jpg /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/24.jpgConclusionAs you can probably tell, I was completely taken with this scenery,as both the coverage area and texture quality were simply superb! Ihonestly couldn't find a single thing bad to say about it, and believeme, I went over it from start to finish with a fine tooth comb. My faith in Orbx, is as ever well justified, and after talking tothem at RAF Cosford this year at the Flight Sim Show, I know them tobe both passionate and enthusiastic about their work (as well as beingreally nice guys). They were eager to answer questions, and nothingwas too much trouble for them. In my book, scenery developers need tostand back and take a look at what Orbx are doing. It's really isstate of the art! So, as has now become customary with my reviews, I will now providethis scenery with a score; the maximum being 10! Well, as you might have guessed; I have no hesitation at all inawarding Leeds Bradford Airport for X-Plane 11 a highly deserved scoreof 10! /images/reviews/orbxleed/t/25.jpgWell done Orbx!
