pcohen
Hi Everybody, not Sure what's going on here? Decided to Scrap everything and Start again Using Revo uninstaller, making sure as much as possible that nothing was left behind. But here is what has happened (so Far) this time!!! ReInstalled a normal FSX DeLuxe Edition without the Acceleration Disk and Program started to load but while white Mouse Cursor was moving along the Loading Bar it changed to a black cursor (Have mentioned this before) and because of black Cursor cannot show the Menu Bar, only seems to untick with White Cursor? when Game loaded it went straight to startup/options screen without asking for an Activation Code. Having selected a Boing 747 in BA Livery and using Flight Planner to select route Vancouver to Kennedy International, have managed to take of and hav been Flying for over an hour (now Currently Paused and sitting on the Task Bar). My question now of course is what happens when I Leave Flight Simulator, being unable to Save, will have to Exit and start again. Not sure why this is working this way but will plod on regardless. Would like to thank the following guys for their time & patience:- mrzippy, pomak, jorgen, loki, crj simpilot, malcott. Possible missed some but thanks anyway. Many Regards Paul. P.S. Paused Game has resumed from Taskbar (but still Black Cursor). Edited November 22, 2020 by pcohen more info Windows 10 2020. Processor: AMD Ryzon 5 3600 6-Core Processor 3.59 GHz. Cole
Had the same problem with the black cursor but uninstalling my Deluxe version again, because I was not getting the activation block, went back with install and this time got the activation code block. Never open the basic flight so I don't know what the cursor looked like in the game; but as soon as I was able to get the Acceleration pack in there, I had to do as Mr. Zippy said in the register, I was able to get an activation block for it. Anyway cursor is white in the game. I think in installing the original two disk you have to activate the flight sim or perhaps is why the black pointer and maybe without an activation you are running a temporary version. Good luck. HPR7 mad
Hi, If you don't want to go down the steam route, it might quicker just to carry out a reset, and get it back to the factory settings, then you can start again. This is quite an easy thing to do in W10, as you should have a hidden partition on your hard drive that contains all the required software to do this. To find out if you have something like the above, just go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management, storage, disk management and if you have you can likely reset your PC. To do this go to settings, update and security, recovery, reset this pc, just be sure to back up any files you may need before you do the reset, but I am assuming you don't have much on this PC at the moment. I know it may seem a bit extreme, but it should delete all files and registry entries, thus giving you a clean install, and get you back to square one in a reasonably short time. If your not happy doing it, perhaps you could get the PC manufacturer to do it for you. just my 5 happence;) cheers i7-4770K 4.60 GHz (Hyperthreading off) Cooler Master Liquid Cooling System 16 GB G-Skill DDR3 GeForce GTX1050Ti 4GB 500GB WD Blue 3D SSD SATA III x4 Creative Sound Z Sound Card 5.1Ch 24BitAvermedia HD-C985 video capture card CH Yoke and Rudder NZXT Grid+ V2 Fan Controller + 3 case fans Windows10 64 Prof FS9 - FSX -FSX-SE Track Hat i7-4770K 4.60 GHz (Hyperthreading off) Liquid Cooling 16GB G-Skill DDR3 GeForce GTX1050Ti 4GB 500GB WD Blue 3D SSD SATA III x4 Creative Sound Z Sound Card 5.1Ch 24BitAvermedia video capture card CH Yoke and Rudder NZXT Fan Controller Windows10 64 Prof FS9 - FSX -FSX-SE Track Hat
pcohen
Hello everybody. Well, really dont know what To do now? Have done everything all the guys on the Forums who have been helping have suggested since Purchasing this New PC Specialist Tornado R5XT wiyh an AND Ryzon 16160 Graphics Card on 30th September 2020. But still getting Activation Error Message. After Mr Zippy's last reply which I read this Morning, which unfortunately didn't work, I decided to start Completely afresh. Rightly or Wrongly being there is nothing on this Computer at the moment apart from Microsoft Flight Simlator X and the additions to run it I decided to replace the Windows 10 on this Computer with my own Windows 10 which I purchased and was on my previous Packard bell Computer. and FSX worked fine. But having Installed new Windows 10 and Microsoft Flight Simulator X still the have same activation problem. Still having an Issue with this which is where I think the Problem but whoever sent it to me hasn't come back to me. Press Windows key + R to invoke the Run dialog. In the Run dialog box, type services.msc and hit Enter to open Services. In the Services window, scroll and locate the Windows Installer service. Double-click on the entry to open its properties window. In the properties window, on the General tab, click the dropdown on Startup type and select Automatic. When I get to the Startup type and select Automatic line, I cannot change it because It's set on Manual and greyed out so am unable to change It to Automatic. Does anybody have an Idea what to do with this Please? am now getting really desperate. Also have the new Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 but dreading trying it out at the moment. TextRich
Paul, if I were you, I would just spend the $25 (or less if it is on sale, but seems it is not this weekend) on FSX: Steam Edition. You will not have to worry about activation errors and 30-minute demo time limits. It will be money well spent as it looks like you have been struggling with this issue for a month now and I can tell you really want to use FSX again. I am not happy with the current state of the new MSFS and continue to use FSX:SE as I wait for MSFS to eventually mature.

loki
FSX Steam Edition is basically the same as FSX Gold, so no need to install Acceleration at all. To find where Steam has installed the sim you can go into your Library in the Steam client. Right click on the FSX entry and go to Properties, then the Local Files tab, and click Browse Local Files. loki
Apologies loki, forgot forums appear in reverse, but still having trouble locating Steam Client. Many thanks Paul. The Steam Client is the application you installed in order to install FSX Steam Edition. Try hitting the Windows key on your keyboard and typing "Steam" into the Start Menu search box. It may also be running in the system tray on the right side of the taskbar.
TextRich
Paul, if this is your first time using any game with Steam, then FSX:SE can be found at C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/FSX. FSX.exe will run it. In case it doesn't, you need to run Steam like loki said. It should be found at /Steam/steam.exe. I STRONGLY suggest you move your Steam installation to C:/, NOT Program Files, since the two Program Files folders have very strict read and write protection by Windows, and it may interfere with some FSX functions and editing. Here are instructions on how to do this - scroll down to "How do I move my existing Steam installation?" https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129 Good news, UTX USA definitely works in FSX:SE. I used it for years before I switched to Orbx. In fact, around 95% of FSX add-ons can easily work with FSX:SE. I look forward to hearing of your success soon! pcohen
Hi TextRich, thanks for reply. Not there I'm afraid, I am looking for the FSX Folder where you put your own Aircraft in the Sim Objects Folder and can create a Desktop Icon to open the FSX Folder and with the Start.exe Icon. Am surprised this wasn't Installed into C:\FSX to start with? Many thanks. Paul. Windows 10 2020. Processor: AMD Ryzon 5 3600 6-Core Processor 3.59 GHz. Installed memory (RAM): 16.0 GB. TextRich
Like loki said, can you use the white search bar on the lower left of your Windows 10 desktop to find Steam or Flight Simulator X? When you see the correct application show up in the search you can right-click on it and select Open File Location and it will show you exactly where the applications are. FSX:SE is definitely installed in a Steam/steamapps/common/FSX folder. Perhaps it was Program Files rather than Program Files x86 but historically Steam's default location has been in a Program Files folder.
pcohen
Hi TextRich, many thanks again for reply. OK, the Integrity of Game Files has been verified. However I still cannot find the Folder location that contains the FSX Folder where you can Add Effects, Gauges, Panel or Sim Objects where you add additional Aircraft etc. Also, when I find this Folder is it possible to change it to C:\FSX and put in the Drive C: Folder? mrzippy
The trick will be, that once you find the FSX folder containing all of the sub-folders, right-click on it, create the shortcut and send to desk top. That way when you want to add something, you just double click on that shortcut and you are there! Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
