  1. Yes, one can always dream. Dream of winning something in the order of $50+ million to start a new sim from scratch with all the bells and whistles. GTA V, for example, cost something like $137 million to develop (with marketing costs on top of that).
  2. The GameSpy online multiplayer service FSX Gold used was shut down a few years ago. There are some more details and some alternatives listed below. http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?257195-Gamespy-is-down-alternative-connections-here Another option is FSX Steam Edition as it replaced GameSpy with Steam's multiplayer service. Steam Edition often goes on sale for $5-10.

    TrackIR For Mac

Let's try this one more time in case you missed my other replies. While TrackIR may not officially support Macs, others have gotten it to work. This may be why X-Plane still presents you with the option. Or they simply didn't hide the option in the Mac version. See the thread below for one lead.

    TrackIR For Mac

Was that flown with X-Plane on a Mac or PC? Took a quick look and it wasn't clear.
  5. Don't give up that easy. For Plan-G and many other FSX related applications you can use Simconnect to run the application on a second computer, such as your laptop. Give the thread below a read, as well as the manual for Plan-G, or any other program you are looking to run. https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?237067-How-to-setup-Plan-G-via-network
  6. Well, it is possible. There are one or two solutions out there. Not sure how performance is though. http://www.maxivista.com/how-to-use-laptop-as-monitor.htm One can also use an iPad as an external monitor too. http://www.duetdisplay.com/ However, either a second monitor, or using Simconnect (for apps that support it) over the local network to the laptop would be better options.
  7. That is much better. The CPU fan should always be running. Is there an option in the BIOS for AMD Cool'N'Quiet (or something similar)? This allows for better control of the CPU fan. What's the ambient room temperature? Unless the room is quite warm, the CPU idle temp should be lower still.
  8. If the CPU temperatures are above 60C when the computer is basically idle, there is a cooling problem with the system. At idle, the CPU should be in the 40-50C range. The max safe temperature for Phenom II CPUs is around 70C. You may want to start a new thread in the hardware forum to get this sorted out. Probably need to look into how well the CPU heatsink is mounted, the number and setup of the case cooling fans, and possibly the BIOS fan control settings http://www.pantherproducts.co.uk/index.php?pageid=CPUtemperatures This is the CPU fan trying desperately to keep the CPU cool. The best way to fix this is sorting out the hardware side.
  9. If your screenshots are blurry, the problem will be with the program you are using to create them. Video cards or any other differences between systems shouldn't matter. Blurry images with color banding are a good sign the jpeg is being created with low quality settings. At high quality, a jpeg file should easily look better than a gif one. By all means stick with what works for you though!
  10. If a JPEG is blurry, it is because of the quality it was saved in, not the format. If JPEGs were as bad as indicated, it wouldn't be the standard format for digital cameras.
  11. It's about 1 to 1.5 GBs. https://microsoftflight.com/en-us/faqs/#setup
  12. Any time I've ever looked, the wired controller has always been cheaper. It's nothing new, at least around here. You really need to do some research. As shown in the quick reference card that comes with FSX, the sim supports the use of all buttons and controls on the Xbox 360 controller. Just for fun I plugged one in and gave it a go, and what do you know, it worked!
  13. Around here the wired controller is cheaper than the wireless controller for Windows model, which does come with a wireless adapter for the PC (or any of the wireless models for the Xbox itself). Well, according to the quick reference card, all buttons, analog sticks and the d_pad are recognized and used by FSX.
  14. I think people need to pull out the quick reference card that came with FSX as it supports the Xbox 360 controller and is not an Xbox game.
  15. The base program is free to download and comes with Hawaii and one plane only. Their plan is to offer more aircraft, scenery and other add-ons through a built-in marketplace.
  16. Everything that is known is on the official site linked above. They have listed some examples of hardware they're testing the system on, but have not provided any official system specs.
  17. No problem. If you have questions in the future, feel free to post them in the Newcomers forum. It was setup for new users while they get familiar with the forums.

    Happy simming!

  18. Questions like this should be asked in the forums, not the blogs. As for your question, all that is happening is that Windows is disabling the Aero interface while the sim is running. It does this to free up the video card for the sim. This has nothing to do with what colours are displayed in the game and is the way it's designed to work.
  19. The Forum would be a better place for questions like this. There are already a couple of threads covering this sim in there already. https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/forum.php As for ProFlight Sim, it is just a packaged up version of the open source (and free) FlightGear simulator. You can save yourself $50 and download FlightGear directly. http://www.flightgear.org/

    Where do I start?

You can also browse through the PC Hardware forum here too. There are plenty of threads about what to buy for FSX, and you can ask questions if you are still not sure. https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/forumdisplay.php?6-PC-Hardware-Video-And-Audio-Help
  21. Maybe post in the Newcomers forum to get started. It was set up specifically for those new to the hobby and/or forums. You might try using the forum search to look for problems .AIR files as well.
  22. Try posting in the FSX or Newcomers forums as more people will see it there. https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/forumdisplay.php?25-FSX-Forum https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/forumdisplay.php?51-Newcomer-Services Remember to include the names of the files you are having trouble with, and exactly what you did and where you installed the files to. It sounds like the conflict issue people have when Adobe AIR is also installed. There is also this guide in the Wiki for installing FSX aircraft. https://www.flightsim.com/main/howto/fsxacft.htm

    Fsx

There aren't any legal places to download FSX that I am aware of, but there are places to buy it online and have it shipped to you. https://www.fspilotshop.com/product_info.php?cPath=2_21&products_id=1792 http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Flight-Simulator-X-Gold-Edition-PC-Game/product/25ACE6F8 Posts or links to illegal downloads are not tolerated on this site.
  24. And here is how Windows virtual memory works. http://blogs.technet.com/b/markrussinovich/archive/2008/11/17/3155406.aspx
  25. Mark Russinovich has a great blog post about how Windows handles physical memory for those that are interested. http://blogs.technet.com/b/markrussinovich/archive/2008/07/21/3092070.aspx
