  1. Well that's cool. Glad you were able to find those vintage installers and they worked to boot! It's funny you mention PC Aviator because I was just doing some cleaning yesterday and ran across an old CD (DVD?) box I have from PC Aviator of Mega Scenery for most of New England. It is PC Aviator branded with two sectional charts and a pretty cool booklet of all the approach plates of the area for Sim use. Seems like a fine company and their banner indicates they've been around since 1990. I don't know much about them though, but have bought products from them in the past. I've also bought from this website's company as well. Addendum: Oh! About that network traffic. LOL You can just run a network sniffer like Wireshark or Nirsoft's Smartsniff and watch what the remote IPs. I do this ALL the time. One day I'll run the pfSense (a damn fine firewall) so I can REALLY see the network traffic no matter at what layer its at. i.e., via UEFI or what ever. Yes, UEFI has its own network stack which is just rife for shenanigans... Anyway, if you get the IP addresses, use this website which is pretty much the horses mouth at the BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) level. Like a phone book... https://bgp.he.net/ There are others as well like https://bgpview.io/. But that'll just tell you the owner of the IP and its hosting provider. So it could be Amazon AWS, Digital Ocean, Cloudflare, Choopa, OVH, Stackpath, Akamai, Bunny CDN and the list goes on and on let me tell you. I could figure it out though and whether eSellerate owns the IPs. (Added the GPS for looks. Actually paid a whole $2 for it at a second hand store).
  2. I just posted this link, but here it is again since it might be informative to you. https://www.flightsimbooks.com/ Try Part II — Instrument Flight
  3. If you use the uBlock Origin extension (add-on) in your browser, then go into its settings under "My filters" and add the following. You're welcome. (We need a CODE BBcode). Edit- Keep in mind that if you have to solve a captcha here on the site (and only this site), chances are you'll won't see it. If that becomes the case, then temporally disable uBlock Origin on this site, solve the captcha and then resume blocking. https://www.maketecheasier.com/ultimate-ublock-origin-superusers-guide/ https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki
  4. Ah, yes. Been a while. Like two decades. LOL Yep, know about having to be at a position of attention. Like, not being able to salute from parade rest and whatnot. Back in ROTC the teacher and the class played a little game like Simon Says only it involved drill commands. I was the only one left standing even when the teacher insisted I'd salute from parade rest or what ever. I knew I couldn't so refused to do so. Then he laughed and said go sit down and he immediately said, "Simon didn't say." LOL I was like "damn, I could have won that one. I'm the type of person that likes specific written instructions and order. I like reading manuals and things that are to the point and informative. My car owner's manual for example is pretty damn interesting. People don't realize it, but if they just read the damn thing I suppose a lot of their questions could be answered.
  5. Absolutely ridiculous how they can charge $150 smackers for a cable. It's really no different than a car's counterpart other than the unique plug at the end. I'd be apt to craft my own plug with a 3D printer somehow. You can even craft your own circuit boards with a circuit board CAD program and have a company in China silk screen the board. Absolutely amazing the times we live in. Next question if I may. Cars have a data port for diagnostics. Do planes have the same thing? I mean, for GA? I'm pretty sure the maintenance crew for a 737 et al has laptops and what not for the FMC and NDs, etc. Are Cessna aircraft all "chiped up" with a chip to control fuel flow and a MAP sensor and what have you?
  6. Ah, very interesting about the unique jumper cable. Yeah, being caught up in the prop would be something to be conscious about. But with a battery jump starter unit like these for cars you're not anywhere near the engine when you turn the key. However, once you do turn the key for a plane then you have to contend with removing the battery box. LOL! So I guess those jumper cables would need to be used or something. How in the world do you remove aircraft jumper cables after the engine had been started? LOL In hindsight, perhaps the connector should be inside near the door or something?
  7. If this was posted using a "smart device", the emoticons (Emoji) didn't parse and are just a Unicode special placer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Specials_(Unicode_block) And you're not required to understand, and no one is required to heed my advice. Some do, some don't. For those that don't I pity your very soul. LOL Well, I've been interested in Cybersecurity, hacking (software/hardware) for a very, very long time. Back in Jr High I used to try to break the school's At Ease connected Macintosh computers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At_Ease Want some delicious and/or scrumdiddlyumptious fun? Check this out: https://jurassicsystems.com/ Hint: Enter the command: display zebraGirl.jpg You're welcome. :D Edit- At ease is a military command which means you can move about, talk and what have you but you can't move your right foot. That's most like why that Macintosh OS desktop replacement was called At Ease. I was in ROTC. Nothing more, nothing less.
  8. Couple nights ago I was watching air traffic on the ever so popular ADS-B Exchange website at 3AM. Mostly due to hearing every now and then a prop over head at that hour and wondering just who would be flying at that time? (It was a med Evac King air something or other). Well, I also saw a fair amount of Med Evac aerial screws as well. In particular, a couple that made a hop to KFNL for fuel and back to the hospital and whatnot. When I saw the second helicopter lift off from the hospital there was a TIS-B position indicator that showed up on the ADS-B Exchange map probably near the pad or thereabouts. Question: Wikipedia indicates this is data FROM a facility? Or am I just seeing communications to and from the other helicopter that just landed on the roof pad to aid in any TCAS type stuff? If TIS-B was emanating from the pad somewhere or at the hospital that would be the first I ever knew they had something like that and is very interesting. I have the felling the TIS-B position wasn't accurate or the "box" for this signal hardware is near there somewhere.
  9. Got one of those all too popular but very useful battery backup/jump start things last Christmas (only 195 days to go LOL). They look like this: https://www.google.com/search?q=battery+backup+jump+start+car&source=lnms&tbm=isch Question: Couple years ago I saw on the TV show Airplane Repo one of the Repo guys connect a couple 9 volt batteries together (I think he used series for 18v) to jump start a private jet. LOL (I can almost hardly believe it since I would think the batteries would explode on Amp draw overload). So, I got to thinking. Absent of jet powered aircraft, I'm sure GA has a battery like a car in the 12 - 24 volt range (I'm thinking 12). Can these battery jump start units work in GA? And as I type this I just pondered that if you had to use a jump starter it means your aircraft isn't airworthy - violating some FAA rule or something? Maybe useful for bush pilots? Like in Alaska?
  10. Germany is sadly already a political embarrassment...
  11. Or better yet, go into your video card driver software utility and ditch that audio nuisance option... For Nvidia it's the Nvidia Control Panel.
  12. Correct. I have this enabled on my registration page on my website. Help is the operative word here. By far the best Cloudflare rule you can use is by checking for the request method. By in large, a forum like this and mine just use GET & POST. Anything else and it's a 403/503 for you, buddy. Also, the HTTP version check will help. Nothing modern? Then toss. Think HTTP version 1 and/or HTTP version 1.1/1.2. Once I feel like most traffic doesn't use version 2 anymore I'll nuke it as well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP/3 Keep in mind your origin IP is probably already exposed... It negates Cloudflare, really. You'd have to use ACLs or IPtables and block ALL except Cloudflare... Stay abreast of their list, which thankfully doesn't change all the time. Your SSH and FTP port should use port knocking if possible. Or just allow certain IP addresses. I use a VPN IP and only one VPN IP I know never changes for backup purposes in case my IP whitelist strategy for things goes awry. Certificates for SFTP and SSH terminal should be used. No standard issue password entry. Anyway...
  13. Well, I guess I have to be more specific. Enter your email there (it's a legit website. Research it...) and see that your email has been caught up in a couple database breeches. Happens to damn near EVERYONE. The rub? Anyone can go to a hacker forum and download or purchase said database... That private Info. is not so private anymore. No, nothing on your for sale items. Just looking out and being the little star I am... You shouldn't post email addresses to the open Internet.
  14. There's also a Smashing Pumpkins song... HEHE
  15. Reason? It's been my observation they have caused issues and when I got rid of them the issues stopped. So, temp move your files to a folder on the desktop or something, go fly and see what happens. Have a read of this related thread: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?338108-Aircraft-alignment-to-runway/page3
  16. Insert political candidate here ___ LOL NSFW?
  17. Keep your Flight Simulator Files folder tidy. You should only have the following shown in the screenshot. I purge all these about every 15 flights or so.
  18. The error simply means it can not communicate with a DLL. Meaning the probability of Windows is protecting something from firing off the execution chain needed for Simconnect to link with AS16. Now there are people that will say they have no issue with Windows 10/11 ad nauseam. I really don't care. Everyone's computing environment is different. Having said that a question: 1) Is FSX outside of the programs folder? Like in the root of C drive or another hard drive? My current FSX path is C:\FSX. If this is not tue for you then go on ahead and reinstall to that path. Also, make sure you go into your Windows 11 applicable AppData folder and clear out the FSX settings where fsx.cfg resides. Yes, the modules ini and whatnot - everything. Speaking of "everything." There is a terrific program called Everything.exe that'll find files quicker. Like the aforementioned fsx.cfg file. You can search for that file in Everything.exe, right click the file in Everything and go directly to its path and wipe it all out. You also want to run FSX in an administrator account. I would also disable UAC. No, it's not gonna protect you at all anyway. Trust me (or don't trust me, I don't care). It serves nothing but to cause problems. Unless of course you want your computer to hold your hand because you can't use the computer and the Internet correctly... In which case use Unix (macOS) or Linux. Can't Sim of course, but you'd be far more secure than Windows... I'd also make sure FSX and AS16 are running in compatibility mode for XP SP2 or SP1. You just right click the .exe and chose properties | Compatibility. Beyond that I really don't know. Windows 10 and 11 are NOT computer operating Systems. They're more or less built like an OS for a phone or tablet. That is Microsoft's brain headed idea. They need one OS for smart devices and another for computers. If you could, and your hardware supports it, do a dual boot with two hard drives with Windows 7 and 11. Install FSX et al in 7. I use the hard drive switch made by Kingwin. I don't recommend doing this via separate partitions on the same hard drive. Two NVMe based drives would work too. There's a lot, and I mean a lot of crap with 11 and 10. I can tell you this being the very computer centric person I am for almost 20 years. Now Microsoft wants to try and get all software on their own little play store. The acronym PC used to stand for Personal Computer. Personal? In this the 21st century?! That's a misnomer. No, idiom! PS: Did you know the UEFI that now replaces BIOS has its own built-in network stack? And this lovely beast has something called WPBT (Scroll down and read the FAQ). Also, a TPM is just DRM... And a lot of other crap executing at the core of privilege rings. PPS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Configuration_and_Power_Interface#Security_risks https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joanna_Rutkowska Anyway... LOL!

  20. It's just command line code written in a human readable file saved with the extension .bat. When that .bat file is double clicked, the code in it fires off in succession which according to his code there starts the weather engine called FSrealWX and FSX at the same time. I believe FSX defaults to that path upon installation... Not really a good idea with any OS over XP... Should be C:\FSX (or insert your alternative drive letter here _____)
  21. Just want to jump in here on batch files. Instead of Wikipedia, check this out. https://www.tutorialspoint.com/batch_script/index.htm
  22. Just want to make sure. The complexity slider is at max? Note that having all of your settings at max may cause issues. Back in 2019 I was flying into Cape Town from the North and kept getting a crash to desktop about 10 NM from Cape Town. The error I kept getting was the following: The solution? Don't use high settings for autogen and scenery complexity. I currently use "Very dense" for autogen and scenery complexity. One notch from max. I'm assuming the error was due to a corrupt bitmap or something related to terrain. I have went into my entire FSX directory and converted and checked bitmaps, but I have yet to fly near Cape Town again to see if that fixed the issue or not. You might want to verify all of the jetway textures exist in your FSX installation. They are not library objects like the jetways.bgl file found in FS2004. To verify if you have all of the textures, download and install Everything.exe from voidtools here. (You can use the non installer portable version). Now in Everything enter the following in the search box: (There is a space which is an AND operation). You should see the following ten files: https://i.postimg.cc/3RcPLbvH/jetways.jpg Note the size and dates and their sub directory. I'm assuming those ten jetway texture files are universally used throughout the whole game. If all of those are in place, size, dates, and sub directory, then it could be an add-on, module or even your FSX install path. There are lots of variables.

  24. Just be cognizant in the fact of having all those saved flights and whatnot can and will cause the Sim to goof. Reread what I said again about a once in a while purge of that data. I'm glad it worked out, now you know.
