  1. The airport on Catalina Island was one of the first I tried to land on way back in the 1980's with MS FS Version II (on a floppy disc). It's about a thousand feet above sea level, and even today it's quite a challenge...
  2. I never quite understood Gulfstream's refusal to grant a license - did they think their wealthy clientele would think any less of the Company as they sipped their champagne, and spooned on the caviar while lounging in the cabin at 40,000 feet?
  3. I think we're now getting into an area that's called apples and oranges... So I will end this on my end and say "Whatever floats your boat"
  4. Joaopaz, I'll bet FS9 on your Commodore 64 still zips right along... :)
  5. You all know that FS9 was released in July of 2003 - to keep it in prospective, the very first IPhone was released almost exactly four years later. In between, FSX was released in 2006. I actually purchased both of those sims back then. So I say to all those devotees of FS9 and flip-phones, please keep this info on the QT: It's now 2022...
  6. Perhaps a one or two-carat diamond? Or, maybe some dudes out there have enough dough to burn on the latest graphics card...
  7. Perhaps there are more landmarks on a continent that is more than 2000 years old, as opposed to one settled by Europeans about 500 years ago (where I was born).
  8. OK. All those out there with a cathode ray computer monitor, raise your hands:)
  9. OK, so your up there in age, and so am I - but, it sure beats the alternative... Speaking of age - Windows 7! Really?
  10. You can absolutely learn both the nomenclature, instrumentation, and behavior, (to some degree), of aircraft in most PC simulators, but it can really never take the place of of the real thing, with a qualified flight instructor...
  11. So I guess you all do know that the company that makes Alienware was purchased by Dell several years ago...
  12. Why, was that Red Dye #3 that you got all over the tarmac?
  13. Like I've said for many years, ski divers, as well as mountain climbers, should all have their heads examined. They both crave the elusive adrenaline rush of that just being alive does not do for them. Moreover, it falls under the proverbial "What could go wrong?" category...
  14. Someone who has little or no experience with PC innards probably should not attempt a build themselves w/o a person more knowledgeable to oversee it. The individual hardware components are certainly not inexpensive. There is always the hazard of static electricity, mis-wiring of one or more components, etc...
  15. Truth be told: MSFS 2020 was released to the public on August 18, 2020. It was basically a beta application (almost a completely new flight sim designed from scratch) with many inherent problems. But as the Microsoft Corporation had a big stake in XBox, they were gung ho to release it. So now, 14 months later, the Asobo Team is still busy tweaking, fixing problems, and updating MSFS. But as they say, patience is a virtue...
  16. Corporations usually do not expend rather generous amounts of money to lose money - this also applies to Microsoft. If they only break even on FS2020, it allows them to advertise all the other XBox and PC games via this new flight sim. A lose-leader perhaps? Plus, there are still corp. tax write-offs. I actually still fly FSX mostly: FS2020 heats up my current PC components to unacceptable levels - so I'm still waiting for higher-end gaming PC's prices to taper off a little (perhaps in vain) till I invest in one...
  17. Very excellent shots! (I've actually driven to Key West a few times in RL)
  18. Difference between the launch of FSX in 2006, and the overly-hyped MSFS 2020: 2020 had dozens of volunteer beta testers for months supposedly giving feedback to the Asobo Team prior to the actual launch day. I'm sure many problems were apparent more than a year ago - so why are endless fixes still in play? Only Microsoft can answer that one..
  19. FYI, When MSFS 2020 was introduced almost a year ago, Microsoft specs recommended 32 GB's of RAM to run it on a PC...
  20. It's the Team Asobo's latest dance craze: Two steps forward - One step back...
  21. I just knew from this post it was bound to raise some hackles out there...
  22. I'm still looking for a bridge over troubled waters so I can lay me down...
