  1. I presume they are listed for the second half of the title to Paul's site "& Little Known." If one wonders why these were included on the site, they should reach out to the site. I am only attempting to show that there are many airfield scenery downloads available should any of these fields interest you.
  2. Chris, Thank you for posting this. Yes, Paul Freeman's Abandoned & Little Know Airfields website ( http://airfields-freeman.com/ ) includes over 2200 US airfields. I'd be happy to add to the list I've been posting (Rev 4 now) these historical anecdotes from all over the world as they are brought to my attention. Keep calm and Sim On!
  3. Rev. 4, now includes 72 airfields. The attached list is of the airfields known to have been recreated for the flight sim community. This list will be updated as additional fields have scenery created. If you know of any other fields that have had scenery created and are listed on the Abandoned & Little-Know Airfields website airfields-freeman.com, please let me know and I will update this list accordingly. 4. Absolutely. I would hope that the majority of these posts will be aimed at enhancing everyone's ability to competently fly helicopters in the PC sim world, and to understand the marked differences between RW and FW sim flying. Take it low and slow. Be patient and don't get frustrated. Practice, practice, practice. The best part of helicopter flying is the view. You can take time to stop and smell the roses.
  5. Yes, for some, that seem to be their main sport. Appreciate what all versions bring the the table, there's a lot of talent out there.
  6. Even with ONE Wright-1820 spitting out 1475HP, landing on the Lexington was one of the most thrilling and scariest moments of my life.
  7. Earlier today I reread some of the threads when MS went from FS9 to FSX. We almost could copy and paste the discussion between then and now. What I found most interesting was that on a whole those threads came to the same conclusions, 1) we all have our preference and will defend our selection, and 2) as long as we are having fun there is a place in the sim world for all of us and our preferred sim.
  8. You are most likely correct. And as time passes, the vintage sim generation will slowly make their last landings and fade into the sunset with joyful memories of the floppy disk and wired mouse.
  9. On a while I agree, and rarely use a 2D panel. But, I do feel there is a place for it, and having 2D and VC in MSFS would enhance not hinder that version.
  10. This is, in my humble opinion, Anne Lindbergh's best book. A must read.
  11. Nicely done. With a tail hook it would have been just the opposite, full power on touchdown in case of a bolter.
  12. Interesting, Navy blimp? Not seen any LTA in AI before.
  13. I just successfully downloaded an FSX and MSFS aircraft using DuckDuckGo. Previous download issues using Chrome or Edge have ceased once I switch to DuckDuckGo several months ago. It is now the only browser I use.
  14. Well over half of NJ,, one of the most densely populated States, does not have access to fiber internet. We're lucky to get a reasonable rate for 200 or 300GB speed through a cable provider, with no other option. Wherever you are, consider yourself lucky to have such economical speeds.
  15. The runway seems to get shorter every year. Make each takeoff worth the effort.
  16. For IFR training, where understanding the IFR environment is more important than accuracy of the sim presentation, the 2D panel is a much stronger training tool. In reality, when in IMC conditions, your world is reduced to the panel in front of you. And for the IFR student, developing good scan habits and observing the subtle movements and functioning of instrument presentation, again, I feel the 2D panel is superior. This is not downplaying to wonderful full cockpit presentation of the VC, just one instructor's opinion for a specific need. Yes, it is a shame that it did not get past the cutting table. I feel that this would have allowed MSFS to offer broader training capabilities, especially with its better visual realism when breaking out of the clouds at 200 & 1/4 on the approach.
  17. Thank you, I'll include in the next rev!
  18. We had a 90% eclipse in NJ, and was clear skies until right at peak eclipse, I used the sun shades on my Plath sextant to view the partial eclipse.
  19. As a reward for being last in, we left the tab for you to pick up. Don't forget a big tip to the party wait staff.
  20. I never made any such statement, nor did I say you should not post the Twin Towers. My only point is to consider that we have people from all over the world, with all kinds of experiences and sensitivities. jgf's example of the swastika is an excellent example. I too have it on many WWII aircraft, and personally do not display them here except with a historical context, such as if I showed Hanna Reitsch flying the Focke-Achgelis Fa 61 inside the Deutschlandhalle. There is no way to recreate that event in FS without the correct aircraft paint scheme.
  21. Crank up Hendrix Purple Haze in your headset, Excuse me while I kiss the sky!
  22. I spent 6 months at the WTC pit during the clean-up. One of the most humbling and solemn periods of my life. Should one wish to include them in screenshots, please be respectful and at least state that maybe the pics are older, or that one is intending to showcase the grandeur that is now lost.
  23. I agree, just as I enjoy reading the threads of all sim versions here on FlightSim. All sims have so much to offer. And whichever gets you into the virtual skies is what matters most. Happy Simming!
