VFR Flight Plan
Patinthedesert replied to Art_P's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
These TIME waypoints seem to have been added by the flight planner in MSFS since the Su5 update. And I don't understand them either. I have not seen where there could be an option to not generate them or to delete them. It does not seem to be coming from the G1000, either new NXi or old. -
Steam could be culprit
Patinthedesert replied to hobbitrocks's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
When MSFS is running, you are on the Msoft servers. Steam has nothing to do with it. -
While that may be a good practice to fly a path that intercepts the planned flight path, I have had other results before. Before SU5 and SU6, when I set up a similar flight plan and then hit the NAV button, it would turn the plane toward the planned flight path and if necessary fly an intercept at 30 degrees or so to reach the line of the planned flight path. I have uninstalled the NXI version of the G1000 (just have to check it in the Content Manager and select Delete) and see what difference it makes. On a quick look I could see that the display on the right (the MFS?) was restored to how it looked before the update. A new question. On the PFS display there is a green ring. It is on or close to the flight path, on all the screenshots I posted. What is the green ring?

Okay I have now learned better to add a screenshot. The JPG images work better. First image - at that point where I try to engage NAV - and fail. If I go to the Flight Manager (buttons above the FMS and push the Direct button, it looks like this. The first waypoint is already coded in and it says Activate? So if I press ENT - twice - it activates and starts following the flight plan. Second image is what is displayed when following the flight plan about a minute later. ... Pat

let's see if I can explain this. While flying planes with G1000 instruments - Cessna 172 and Diamond DA40, I am having trouble getting the AP to follow a flight plan. The planes are default MSFS in the standard version. No addons installed. I go to the World Map and set up a flight plan. Let me do an example that I just tried to fly. Flagstaff Arizona to Page Arizona KFLG tp KPGA in the GPS mode. On the DA40. Started up at the end of the runway for quick test. Set the altitude to 8600' on the AP. Take off and after initial climb set the AP to go to the altitude using VS and setting a climb rate . After reaching the set altitude, I hit the NAV button to go to the flight plan. Nothing happens. I tried to attach a screenshot of the control screen but it says I have to reduce to 480 kb. Not sure how to do that without getting fuzzy. The only way that I have been able to get it to fly to the destination is to use the Direct button (D with a line thru it) and use the knob to enter the code then hit ENT twice. So is it me or what. This used to work better than this. Pat

Steam VS MS Store
Patinthedesert replied to davidc2's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
If Norton was the problem, why would you re-install it? I'm not a big fan of Norton but it has been years since I tried it. Pat -
New Where did you fly today
Patinthedesert replied to plainsman's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
KJAC Jackson Hole Wyoming to KWYS West Yellowstone Montana. Beautiful mountains, lakes and rivers. In the Diamond DA-40. No screen pics from me, sorry. Fly it as low as you dare to enjoy the scenery. Fly beside the mountains not over them. I think I stayed to a max of 9000 ft after the takeoff at over 6000. I diverged from the direct flight line to go roughly straight N to fly along the front of the Grand Tetons. Then turned to NW later. Nice long runways at both ends. Pat -
Shuts down
Patinthedesert replied to ralphie1313's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Steam will store games and apps in its own file structure if you leave it to default. I am on the wrong PC to tell you the string it uses but it is several levels deep. However the short answer is it is better to not mess with it. There is very little you can change in there that would not have a bad effect. -
Windows 11 and MSFS2020
Patinthedesert replied to jrdale210's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
If you have an existing system and running Windows 10 without problems there is no reason to rush to upgrade to Win 11. My advice is the same as it has been for years. Let others help to work out the bugs and wait for Microsoft to deal with it. They will maintain compatibility for Years because of the huge customer base. I would give it 6 months to a year for that to happen. And if there is any question of hardware issues then it pays to be even more cautious. -
Windows 11 bug?
Patinthedesert replied to tomavis's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
It is best to wait. There is NO urgency on going to Win 11. -
Lost the programm
Patinthedesert replied to ralphie1313's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Note to others that are looking for answers. Do NOT do a Steam verify of the files for MSFS. Steam verify is not compatible with the Microsoft files. This is a known issue. This will cause you to have to re-install MSFS. -
Overwhelmed
Patinthedesert replied to Jim Hall's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
MSFS is slow to load, no doubt about. Takes longer than almost any other software on my PC. Start it and go get the cup of coffee. If you have it on a fast SSD drive it gets a bit faster but still about 2 minutes, I do highly recommend a PC with an m.2 disk as it speeds up everything. -
Moving Fs 2020 to new computer
Patinthedesert replied to av8ber's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
This will be easy with Steam. You add the app for Steam to the new PC. You login to Steam with the user and password that you already had on the older computer. Steam will connect and it will shoow all games and sims that you have purchased, in your 'library'. Then you select which to install and the downloads will start. Of course with MSFS it will be a BIG download. -
Loading MSFS
Patinthedesert replied to Gamerhaw's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
It is the servers that are limiting download speed. At Microsoft or wherever. Start it again and you will probably do better. If you have to interrupt the download and restart it, you won't lose anything except maybe the current file. I have seen download speeds that are close to 20 mb/s but it is usually slower. Good luck with it. Pat -
C172 not the same
Patinthedesert replied to Patinthedesert's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Thanks for the advice. I have checked some of the flight control but not a thorough check, so I will go back and take a look. It seems like it kept the settings, but I was checking rudder sensitivity after the 2nd problem mentioned in my original post. By the way I am using an Xbox controller - USB connected - as the joystick and some of the controls. The rudders map to the left and right 'triggers' on the controller. I have the assistance on for the ATC. I tried switching to the DA40 for a couple of flights. The throttle response and rudder seemed to be much better - the same as before the update. -
C172 not the same
Patinthedesert replied to Patinthedesert's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
It is set to Modern. As it has been since it was originally installed. Just checked. -
I got the MSFS 2020 working after the SU5 update, but it required a complete uninstall and re-install. I was not able to fly much on it after a couple of quick flights to prove it was working. Now I am back to flying it or at least trying to. I'm trying some basic flights on the Cessna 172. And it is not working the same as before the update. And just feels kind of, um, broken. First item. Taxing on the ground. The plane will not roll until the throttle is above 40% and more like 50% (the throttle positions as displayed on the heads-up on the external display). It used to be 15% or so. Second item. On power roll to take-off the rudder is very very twitchy. I may not be the greatest at the controls but it is very difficult to hold a straight line. This leads me to sometimes jerk it into the air and get off the ground. I have tried adjusting the sensitivity of rudder pedal control, but if I turn it down any farther it won't turn good enough to make the taxiways. Climb after takeoff. Climb performance is very poor, at least at first. Full power will not hold any more than a 500 FPM setting for climb in the autopilot. I see it slowing down and it starts to beep the stall warning. It does not help that the AP settings behave kind of strange with the view of the knobs and buttons moving around a bit. After climbing for a couple of minutes the power seems to improve. So is it working OK for others? I would think there would be more complaints about the flying. Maybe it is working better on other planes. But I assumed that the C172 was the standard for the light planes as it seemed to be more fully developed. Pat

Elevator trim
Patinthedesert replied to N222TT's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
While you call it a trim problem, it sounds like it could be a problem with the 'neutral' position on your controller. You go into the Controls and then the section for your controller. Find the primary flight controls and then a series of adjustments will be displayed. Have your yoke at the neutral and then go thru the X-axis adjustments to get the flat zone for the neutral position to be in the right place Hope this helps. The elevator adjustments may also be a way to compensate for this. --->>> Pat -
refuel
Patinthedesert replied to guardsman89's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Those options are not there on Bush Flights. This is a "feature" that they have apparently not fixed yet. The solution is to set a key for refuel. Go to Controls and then Keyboard. One of the choices is for Repair & Refuel. Assign a key to it. I chose Alt + F for me. Helps my memory as Shift -F is the choice for Ground Services to come for fuel. It will refuel whether you are on the ground or in the air which is kind of like a cheat. But you can't finish most of the bush trips on the initial tank of gas so it is necessary. Pat
