  1. While that may be a good practice to fly a path that intercepts the planned flight path, I have had other results before.

Before SU5 and SU6, when I set up a similar flight plan and then hit the NAV button, it would turn the plane toward the planned flight path and if necessary fly an intercept at 30 degrees or so to reach the line of the planned flight path.

I have uninstalled the NXI version of the G1000 (just have to check it in the Content Manager and select Delete) and see what difference it makes. On a quick look I could see that the display on the right (the MFS?) was restored to how it looked before the update.

A new question. On the PFS display there is a green ring. It is on or close to the flight path, on all the screenshots I posted. What is the green ring?

That green circle is the Flight Path Marker. I think it shows where the plane is really tracking with wind and climb/descent included. You won't see that after you deleted the NXI.

Is the AP acting as you would expect now without the NXI?

  2. Never heard of the NXI add-on. I believe Tiger answered the Q. See prior post. Setting VOR to VOR apparently does not set the frequencies. Who knew? Certainly not I!

Note: At the Welcome screen, you choose a routing: GPS or VOR. If you choose VOR, who on earth would imagine that you have to set your CDI to GPS!!?? (And not to VOR. Huh?)

You don’t HAVE to set it to GPS, but if you set it to VOR then you have to do the things I said in my response at the same time as Tiger’s. VOR navigation can be kind of fun, you should give it a try.

  3. First off, are you using the NXI add on? There have been some reports of problems with that.

I don’t recall if simply setting up VOR to VOR in the Welcome Screen planner will also set the frequencies for the VOR for you. If not, you’ll have to enter that yourself and verify that it is being received. Depending on terrain you may have to climb higher to receive the frequency.

You will also have to set the radial TO the VOR you want to fly to. It may default to 360 unless you’ve entered something different. This would cause the AP to try to intercept the 360 radial even if you wanted to fly say 270.

  4. Cavulife, thanks for looking at this,

First question: yes I pushed NAV, and I can do it more than once. But nothing happens that I can see

Second question: not sure how to uninstall from Content Manager. Just delete the item

But see next post for some new info.

It looks like you're doing things correctly. I haven't used any addons so I'm not sure about how to uninstall the NXI, but if it shows in Content Manager then you should be able to do it there. If not then it probably shows up in the Community folder.

I would try the flight again after the NXI uninstall. If that works then you can try installing the NXI again if you want. I stayed away from the NXI because they actually called it a beta. Some will argue that the whole sim is beta, but when the designer calls out something as beta that's a little different for me.

  5. So how does one look for a top wing, that has a range of 500+ miles, has 400 lbs weight for pilot and co-pilot, full fuel, and 200 lbs of cargo?

I see 2 options for you:

    1. Choose the Cessna Caravan. (The easy choice).

    2. Since it’s only a sim, you can lie about how much you and your passenger weigh. :) This would allow you to choose the 172. The problem with this choice is that the manual I have for the 172 says it’s only got 40 gallons of usable gas. I’d only try this if you’re heading eastbound with a nice tailwind. I’d hate to see you have a simulated crash a little short of your 500 mile destination. :D

  6. Do the updates appear at the same time with Steam or is there a delay?

    Regards

    Steve

I think the updates appear at the same time on Steam. What usually happens is, on boot up there is a small auto update by Steam. When you launch MSFS then it checks for updates and loads the bigger update that people talk about. After that I usually go into the Content Manager in the sim and look for anything else that needs to be updated.

There is no logging in/out of MS Store or XBox.

Steam has been problem free for me regarding updates.

  7. I can't find the rudder trim wheel for the Cessna 172 in MSFS. On the real 172, it is right above the fuel tank selector in the lower middle, but it isn't there in MSFS. Am I missing something, or did they just not bother to plan for crosswinds? Thank you.

It appears they left it out. I've got joystick bindings for rudder and elevator trim and the rudder trim does nothing in flight.

  8. After today's update I've got a problem with the AP capturing altitude in the Bonanza. It just busts right through and keeps going. I've set the Altitude, V/S to get there, and engaged the autopilot. It has always been fine before and I'm not using any mods.

To verify, I checked the following which all use the same AP and this function works fine:

    Baron, C172G, Cirrus SR22, Diamond DA40NG.

    Anybody else notice this problem?

  9. Some more info - just took a flight and after landing and exiting the flight checked the username button. It said "offline" as the status. But the server line, while still greyed out, said "Automatic" and "25ms" and had a green wifi icon. (My computer is wired, not using wifi.)

So, perhaps it was actually online this time, even though the status line still said "offline".

    Curious!

When you click on the username button there is a dropdown for STATUS, it's not the online status. The options if you click on STATUS are Online, Offline, Busy, Away. That STATUS is to hide from your "Friends" by clicking AWAY.:)

  10. Thanks. Well, I found that the Autorudder setting was somehow turned off by one of the updates (I think). With Autorudder on, I am able to steer on the ground using the yoke axis (the steering wheel). This seems logical to me, as I don't have pedals.

I don't know if I should double-assign the rudder or anything else to the yoke axis that also has the ailerons assigned. Is that the right thing to do?

Now, with Autorudder on, it is possible to steer with the yoke but sometimes the turning radius of the plane is so large that it is hard to make some corners or curves.

I have all brakes assigned to one yoke button. I know separate left and right brake assignments could help with steering, but I haven't done that yet.

Glad you figured it out. If you’re going to use Auto Rudder then I don’t think you gain anything by also assigning the rudder to the yoke axis for ailerons.

If you have buttons available for separate brakes then that will help with turning radius. There might already be a keyboard default for this rather than tying up buttons on the yoke.

  11. I've been flying only the default Cessna 172. I have lost the ability to ground steer the plane at all - for taxi to runway, takeoff roll, or after landing. On takeoff, the C172 steers itself quite a bit to the left and off of the runway. (I can sometimes get the plane off the grass and into the air anyway.)

I believe this started with one of the MSFS updates a few months ago.

My flight controls are a Honeycomb Alpha yoke and Honeycomb Bravo throttle quadrant. I have no pedals.

I looked carefully in the yoke and throttle settings and could find no duplicate assignments. Ailerons are assigned to the yoke left and right steering wheel axis, and work to turn in the air. Rudder is unassigned at the moment. Is that the problem?

I seem to recall that some time ago I tried another plane type and had the same issue.

I don't have that Yoke, but the Rudder Axis on my Thrustmaster T.16000 is set to the twist of the stick. If the rudder axis isn't set to anything then I'd think you can't steer on the ground. Try to set it.

  12. Above the NAV knob is a small button with a vertical arrow. Click that button to toggle between Nav1 & Nav2 channels.

Sent from my KFDOWI using Tapatalk

Tim, isn’t that button to switch between the “Standby and Active” frequencies on your selected receiver rather than NAV1 and NAV2?

This is what makes it so hard to answer questions here. It’s sometimes unclear what is being asked and what the person understands about avionics. Let me also include that I’m no expert.

  13. In the Marketplace they show the G1000 with a working OBS button and procedure turns in magenta. I haven't been able to find these working features even though one You Tube video shows a working OBS button. According to the manual you are suppose to be able to switch between the NAV receivers by pushing the NAV button. This feature does not work either. Is this just wishful thinking or is MSFS 2020 just a Beta?

Mav, I'm only using the stock G1000 so maybe it's different. Are you confusing the NAV "knob" with the AP NAV "button"? The knob on the left of the PFD is pushed to switch between the NAV receivers for entering the frequency for each.

  14. It is set to Modern. As it has been since it was originally installed. Just checked.

Since you had to do a complete reinstall, I’d suggest checking the settings for the following:

    - Keyboard/Mouse/Joystick assignments for rudder and brakes

    - Assistance Options: Turn them off

    - Flap setting when you get in the plane. Sometimes its on 1 notch and sometimes it’s not.

  15. Are you using the default G1000, Working Title's Legacy G1000 or the Marketplace Working Title G1000NXi? I'm using the Marketplace Working Title G1000NXi, sorry I should have said that to begin with.

I’m using the default G1000. Maybe that’s the difference. I thought about trying the Marketplace G1000NXi, but there is enough about this sim that seems like beta already…
