  1. Once I'd worked out how to get the autopilot to work properly, I've used it in various modes quite successfully - apart from once trying to use Active Pause before the latest release (haven't dared try it since!). Last night after I'd eventually got Little Navmap to talk to MSFS I set up a flight in the C172S from my "home" airport of Newcastle with several waypoints to test it. Took off (in real time mode) and established in the climb normally, autopilot on and monitored it for a few minutes before turning my attention to other things, basically checking Little Navmap. Suddenly the stall warning went off and before I could do anything I was almost in a spin (used to be a PPL, know the symptoms). Had to fight the controls before I could turn the A/P off (it's supposed to drop out automatically???) and retrim the aircraft which had gone to full nose up. Luckily I was already quite high so apart from overspeeding the airframe I managed to get it back under control and carefully manually flew it back to Newcastle (I believe in trying to complete a flight, even if it's all going wrong) without further incident. (The aircraft trace on Little Navmap was "interesting"). So the moral of this little story (which I hope you enjoyed!) is that, no you're not missing anything and it would appear there is still some instability in the programme. But, like in the real world, it teaches you to pay attention!
  2. I sat at the hold last night at Newcastle waiting for a KLM to land, ATC wouldn't talk to me until it did. Then I looked out of the window (I live next door to Newcastle) and sure enough, what did I See? . . . . . . . Nothing, of course!
  3. Files hidden? Do you have another drive where it may be installed? Are you trying to just delete using Windows Explorer? I understand the prog can be uninstalled through the MS App you originally used to install MSFS, which would be the best way. Might not work now, though, if you've deleted some files. Not a techie but seems more logical to me.
  4. Okay, it eventually finished after about 1 3/4 hrs then appeared to work okay with no noticeable changes. Haven't done a flight yet but at least the download has worked.
  5. Came to start up the sim an hour ago and it went to the Installation Manager to download the update. The white bar said there was 2.09 GB to download - well so far I'm up to 14.29GB at 64%. It's currently loading a series of fs-base-0.1.76.fspatch.002 et seq. I'm not surprised at a slow download, there's probably many thousands trying to do the same - but why say 2.09GB when it would appear to be 22-23GB? It's not my internet connection - currently downloading at my max speed. Or is something wrong? Guess I'll just have to be patient and read the forums!
  6. Can I ask how you formulated your request i.e. what did you do? Earlier today I was given landing instructions with a tailwind component of 17 kts, something I'd never accept in TRW, but couldn't see anyway of changing it. Made an into-wind approach but broke off when departing traffic came up at me! (Managed to land successfully with the tailwind though!) Would be very interested in a solution.
  7. Same circumstances as OP - went to Currys they sold me an Acer Nitro 50-100 as per your specs (graphics card is Geforce GTX with 4gb RAM). One guy was a bit doubtful that 16GB RAM would be enough but as I intended to "rob" the old machine of memory I wasn't too concerned. Transferred the 1TB SSD from the old machine together with 8GB of RAM and away it went with no problems, including a reasonable download from MS (I bought the online standard version). Have to say that I haven't "stretched" the capacity of the system yet but have noted CPU and RAM very occasionally go to 100%, usually whilst setting up a flight. Have replaced the 8GB RAM with fast 32GB and RAM never gets above 50% now. Also FPS is usually upper 30's. Conclusion is that the machine is perfectly happy running MSFS. Only caveat is that I'm running a standard monitor at 1920 x 1080 so have the graphics at medium plus a few tweaks which is fine but if I wanted to improve to ultra maybe the CPU wouldn't be man enough. I'll have a play with the settings sometime.
  8. I'm no computer expert but my old machine (Acer Aspire) definitely couldn't cope. Visited my local computer store and they recommended a proper gaming machine, eventually bought an Acer Nitro 50 which I further modded with a 1TB SSD and more memory (from the old machine). It now runs the sim very well but I'm never going to get the full effects - the sim is too power hungry. I'd guess MSFX might run on your machine but you'll have to set everything to low levels to get a workable experience - my old machine was unflyable. A number of the pundits are pointing out, quite rightly in my opinion, that at the moment even the very best available hardware still won't let you run everything at max. Yes, all the bits you've seen are there with every version - but as I said, you're going to need a high-spec machine to get the best results.
