  1. That appears to have solved the problem. I had actually thought of uninstalling KSFO, but was not sure if I could get it back. As with most MSFS issues, I learned something useful from this. Many thanks!
  2. Thanks. To uninstall it, do I hit "delete" in Content Manager? If so, will it show up as available for re-installation when I relaunch the sim?
  3. Modern. I tried it with the CJ4, same result. The CTD always occurs as soon as I hit "fly" -- not before. I have filed a report on this issue (second time; first one was several weeks ago). Thanks for your interest!
  4. Happens with every plane I've tried, which is most of them. It does not seem to matter what aircraft I use.
  5. I experience a CTD on every attempt to fly into or out of KSFO. No problems anywhere else! This happens even with no addons installed, i.e. an empty Community folder. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. My Halloween Challenge is greyed out and unusable, but everything else seems normal as far as I can tell. Any ideas?
  7. First, in reply to a previous post: to start the sim with an empty,or nearly empty, Community folder is not a "gimmicky mod". Remember that the MSFS program comes with that folder empty, so you can hardly do harm by reverting to that state. Second, many users including me have found addon managers to be extremely useful, as they allow you to easily control what scenery is loaded into Community prior to each MSFS session, I use the freeware program by Bad_M (I think) which is much discussed in another thread on this forum. This tremendously reduces startup time, and has another benefit as well: my addon scenery is now stored in a different drive from MSFS, which frees up that drive for other uses (such as the frequent MSFS patches). All that is placed in Community by the addon manager are links to the actual scenery folders, which is an ingenious way of saving time and disk space.
  8. Is this a joke? If not, a sedative is recommended.
  9. As a matter of fact, it does -- a recent patch fixed that. Frankly I am tired of this ridiculous thread which serves no constructive purpose and is just intended to provoke. Personally, I am having having a great time flying MSFS with the most immersive, amazing experiences I have ever had in any sim. If you feel otherwise, so be it. Over and out, for me.
  10. What is undeniably true is that the scenery in MSFS is by far the closest any sim has ever come to modeling the real world. Nothing else comes remotely close. Those who cannot even acknowledge this much are not serious.
  11. But I am having such fun with my garbage! And now, there is indeed nothing left to say.
  12. Please listen to me: I was there! The attacks on FSX when it came out in 2006 were ferocious -- it was called "garbage!", "trash!", "a ripoff!", etc. (Sound familiar?) Part of the problem came from the fact that FSX was designed for state-of-the-art personal computers that many, perhaps most, flightsim enthusiasts at the time did not have. I know -- I was one of them! And there were innovations that many folks did not like. But I was captivated by what I saw as the future in FSX, and I stayed with it until I could purchase a much more powerful computer. But many others did not. To this day, there are some who insist that FS9 is a better flight sim program than FSX, which I know to be untrue since I am familiar with both; there is no comparison as far as I'm concerned. As far as MSFS is concerned, it is true that, some users "have issues with downloading, installation, stability, performance, ..." as you say, but many others do not. That should tell you something, should it not? It is clear to me, and I think to many others with similar experience going back decades, that notwithstanding the growing pains, there is no comparison between FSX and MSFS. You are entitled to your opinion of MSFS, but that cannot change history. What happened, happened.
  13. On the contrary, it is YOU, my friend, who have no idea what you are talking about. I have been flightsimming for 37 years going back to FS2, and I have owned and used FS9 and FSX since their inception. I can tell you, as can many other FSX users, that FSX was plagued with problems from the start, in fact worse than is the case with MSFS. There was considerable unhappiness with it, but in time FSX became a great sim, especially with addon sceneries such as ORBX and Ultimate Terrain, and many other improvements. Your statement that "their [FSX and FS9] bugs were minimal and fairly easy to fix by tweeking" (I think you mean tweaking) is just way off the mark, as FSX veterans of the early days know well. Regarding your other comment, I am assuredly not a gamer, and never have been (I don't even know what games are out there). I am a dyed-in-the-wool simmer and in fact, have a log of all my flights dating back to 1994. I would be delighted to send it to you! P.S. I voted three weeks ago.
  14. The camera system in MSFS is much more versatile than those in FSX and P3D. You can have the external view you want, and much more. Check it out! This is one more example of something in MSFS that does not need "fixing". What needs fixing is the assumption of many simmers that if something doesn't work it must be the fault of the program. Sometimes it is; often the fault lies with the user.
  15. You completely miss the big picture. Yes, some of the the scenery in MSFS is "beautiful", but -- like the real world -- much of it is not, e.g., big-city slums, blocks of industrial warehouses, desolate wastelands, etc. What it IS, is realistic -- the first sim to attempt to model the world as it actually appears, which it does not do perfectly but comes amazingly close, in my opinion. No other sim remotely approaches what has been accomplished here. Secondly, while MSFS has experienced some issues on launch, as has happened with every previous flight sim program, it has become clear that many of the problems you and others attribute to "bugs" are not problems inherent to the program per se, but are caused by improperly configured computer setups, inattention to detail in configuring and using the program, and other local issues. The fact that many simmers have not experienced these so-called "bugs" proves this. "Then came along X-plane and P3D with practically no bugs at all", you say. Really? I have seen enough comment from users of those programs to know that this statement is nonsense. Bottom line, get real.
  16. Sorry about your problem. Just FYI, I have a CH flight yoke and have had no issues before or since the latest update -- it works fine.
  17. 1) The Cessna 152 is functional. I fly it often with no problems. 2) I and many others ARE singing their praises for a revolutionary advance in flightsimming that provides an immersive flying experience for the first time. Some flights have left me absolutely awe-struck. 3) Bugs are normal in every new flight sim. FSX is a great example. Yet it became a superb sim once the bugs were resolved and major addons appeared. The same is already happening with MSFS, less than 2 months in.
  18. That's fine -- I know a guy who prefers to drive his '56 De Soto. Tastes do vary.
  19. In all my years of flightsimming and participating in flightsim forums, this has to be the most bizarre thread I have ever seen -- a guy claiming to be an expert on flightsim clouds (of all things), and an infallible one at that! Never the slightest hint that he could, just possibly, be mistaken, about anything. Using phrases like "100% certain" and the like. I have known a few ultra-conceited people in my life, but this takes first prize. I have to believe that this must be a giant put-on and that those of us who have tried to present different views from his are just repeatedly falling into the trap. If so, shame on us for keeping this farce going.
  20. OK, I think it is clear that Skywatcher has an issue with the clouds in MSFS, and as far as I can tell, most people, including me, don't. One thing that bears mentioning is that actual clouds vary enormously in appearance and texture, which logically should also be true of the clouds in a "realistic" flight simulator. I have seen clouds that -- if I hadn't seen them with my own eyes -- I would swear couldn't be real, but they were! In sum, I find the clouds in MSFS to be a nonexistent problem -- just my opinion. End of topic as far as I'm concerned.
  21. It is impressive that you are familiar with "all known clouds within our universe". I have no answer to that other than to bow in admiration of your knowledge! But your picture -- sorry -- only confirms what I said. The fuzzy edges of those clouds look EXACTLY like what I am seeing out my window as I write. And now, I am returning to flying. I hope your cloud problem gets resolved somehow; for me, there simply is no problem.
  22. Not knocking anything, just being realistic. Good luck and happy simming, whatever you choose to use!
  23. I was a devoted user of FSX (before that, FS9) for many years, but I agree with Elvensmith. Two things seem clear. One, FSX is now defunct, replaced by MSFS. Certainly folks can continue to use it, but it will increasingly be analogous to sticking with Windows 7 or XP as your operating system. Two, X-plane is also history unless it finds a way to incorporate global satellite-based imagery, which seems very unlikely. Time and technology march on ....
  24. Ho-hum and yawn. As I have noted before when this came up, the cloud textures look exactly -- as in precisely -- like the real clouds I can see from my window. If you are right, this means that Nature itself is unrealistic. Life is cruel.
