  1. Also, if you get real serious, there is a wealth of free publications which can be downloaded from the F.A.A. See: https://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aviation/
  2. The FSX learning center and missions are a good place to start.
  3. The FS9 scenery add-on file "alaskff1.zip" will work in FSX and adds Northern Lights to many Alaskan airports.
  4. Are the Northern Lights modeled in FSX Acceleration? If so, where and at what time? There seems to be mixed opinions. So far, I've found none?!?!?!?
  5. It might simply be particular aircraft. Some aircraft designers make changes to keys. If you find a key changes after loading a particular aircraft, open it's aircraft.cfg file and search for "HotKeySelect". If you add "//" to the beginning of the line, FSX will ignore that line and that change.
  6. After further FSX sessions, the problem started up again. After even more sessions, the problem disappeared and it now goes from screen to screen without issue. The only thing I can figure is that the issue was caused by whatever flight I loaded as default. Never solved the mystery; but, I'm glad it's all working now.
  7. It was on my laptop that I had the issue. Runing the same aircraft on my desktop computer, it ran perfect -- no problems in moving between screens. The only difference in the two was that the desktop had an operative affinity mask, the laptop did not. I set up an affinity mask on the laptop and all works perfect. Why that made a difference, I do not know; but I'm glad it all works now. PS And yes, Zippy that's a great aircraft. (I was fortunate enough to actually see one before T.W.A. got rid of their last one.)
  8. Strange. By pausing first and then making the screen transition, it works fine. It works fine then and after that it works without pausing. But, no matter what, it must be paused for the very first transition. It's odd. Every other aircraft just makes the transition at any time, first or otherwise.
  9. Installed Manfred Jahn's Lockheed L749 Consellation--LOCKHEED749.ZIP. (Using its prop option -- propdisk_r8.dds.) All work's well except when moving from windowed screen back to full screen, the screen goes black. All my other aricraft make this transition, back and forth, fine. Any ideas for a fix ?
  10. From the net: Secdrv.sys is a device driver and is is part of Macrovision's SafeDisc copy protection scheme. It is designed to prevent the piracy of PC games, but has been controversial since its introduction because of problems it causes on many computers. It poses a potential security risk because it grants ring 0 (kernel) access to the programs it works with.
  11. Windows 10 is a feature filled package. Beyond the software, the book "Windows 10 Inside Out" by Microsoft, ISBN-10: 1-5093-0766-4, is a worthwhile desk side reference.
  12. I upgraded by buying Windows 10 on a memory stick. It was about $ 130, tax included, at the Microsoft store. The upgrading was a simple as first stick it in, then turn on the computer and follow the prompts. It took time but it was very effortless -- just read a few initial instructions and followed the prompts for a few hours. Over and above FSX, I had quite a bit on the computer. Following the upgrade, FSX ran as before. Easy peasy. The only programs that did not work were a couple very, very old games. 95% of everything on the machine ran perfect.
  13. Ran FSX under Windows 7. Upgraded the computer to Windows 10. No issues, runs fine.
  14. I'm hoping someone comes up with a fix. I really save only aircraft that run on their own merit sans an ancillary program. (Having done this quite awhile, over the years I've accumulated over 400 aircraft and they all run on their own merit.)
  15. Does anyone know of a freeware Wilga PZL 104 that will run in FSX Acceleration with a clear windscreen? The one available here on Flightsim.com (fsxwikdw.zip) has a blacked out windscreen when run in FSX Acceleration.
  16. Kitt, It unzips and works perfect. Thank you for your effort. Ray
  17. Sept. 8 at 8:07 EDT, unable to unzip. File seems to be corrupt.
  18. Coordinates are about: N62° 49' 23.80",W151° 8' 0.29"
  19. As stated in the mission: A pocket of civilization in a vast mountain wilderness, Base Camp sits at 7,200 feet MSL in the shadow of Mount Hunter to the southeast and Mount Foraker across the glacier to the west. Humorously referred to as "Kahiltna International Airport," it's really just a small seasonal village of brightly colored tents and gear.
  20. There's an error in that mission. In 2015, it was reported here: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/478885-dangerous-approach-number-9/
  21. Wim thank you for the reply. I normally run FSX with all realism settings at maximum. By setting realism to "unlimited fuel", the message never appears. It appears this is a bug in the Osprey coding. I've been at this for a couple decades, have over 300 aircraft and none exhibit this behavior. The Osprey is a very interesting aircraft and obviously is the product of many dedicated hours. With a few tweaks it'll go from great to fantastic.
  22. Thank you for responding. With the default flight as a starting point, or any other for that matter, the result I get is the same. Started with the APU. Then, I thought shutting the APU down would make a difference, but it did not. Getting it running, getting it flying are not issues. But in flight at 170 knots, I get a fuel warning about every 2 to 3 minutes. Whether I hit CNTL + X or not, the fuel quantities in the aircraft remain unchanged and are at adequate levels. And yes, I read the manual. (I've been a desktop pilot since the Commodore 64.) I'll continue to search for the answer. Something else is causing this. Thank you, Ray
