Steam question
Leadraft replied to miatamariner's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
It's been a while since I installed MSFS 2020, and I don't recall any specific installation procedures, but to generally answer your question, yes, you can install Steam to any other drive other than C. You can also choose to install Steam on C drive and Steam games on another drive. When installing MSFS 2020, it will place some configuration files on C drive in your users directory, regardless of which drive 2020 is installed on. I have Steam, MSFS 2020, and all my Steam games on a separate SSD. -
MS has charged me for Xbox!
Leadraft replied to jonahbird's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
I uninstalled Xbox long ago and I've never had any problems running the sim on PC. Purchased through Steam. -
Check to see if you have any duplicate rudder assignments between your joy stick or yoke and keyboard. Also clear any left/right brake assignments for keyboard. I've noticed, at least for me that the sim does strange things when there are duplicate assignments. Don't know if it's a sim problem or issue with my joystick, pedals or keyboard. I used to have this skidding problem and when I removed any duplicates for rudder and cleared left/right braking on keyboard, the plane goes straight now after touchdown. If it doesn't work, at least you've eliminated one thing.

I'll second Spacedesk. Simple to install and use. -
Rudder control fix
Leadraft replied to tiger1962's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
This is great. Been struggling with this for so long. I do like the challenge of cross wind landings though. Does it remove or lessen effects when on approach or just when on ground? -
Agree. Would be nice have different graphic profiles bound to a keystroke(s). I've looked into this and there doesn't seem to be a way. The graphic settings are located in a file called UserCfg.opt located in Roaming > Microsoft Flight Simulator. You can edit this file or have three different UserCfg profiles for example, but whatever was last set in the UI overrides any edits made to this file. It's frustrating when you are flying along at 50 fps, land in a busy or highly detailed airport and frames drop in teens. My wish would be having different profiles, like high, med and Ultra that could be loaded while in flight.

Tail number
Leadraft replied to mikeblom13's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Came back to delete my post, but see you already posted Steve. I just did a couple test flights with tail number changed in ATC Options and it stayed. Nice. Thanks -
Tail number
Leadraft replied to mikeblom13's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
You can also edit a config file for the aircraft to make the change so you don't have to change it for each flight. https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?325032-Assigning-aircraft-registration&p=2122941#post2122941 It will remain in effect until there is an update, and then you have to edit again. Would be nice if there was a way to add tail number in your hanger, for example. -

Thanks for the info. Not overly done. Love it. -
Thunder clap with clear sky
Leadraft replied to roypaglia's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Yes, I get that sometimes, but only if there was recent overcast skies. Seems something is not synced up correctly in Live Weather. With you being in England, you probably have overcast conditions a lot which compounds the issue, if you're flying locally. I do not know of any solution though. Probably a bug that needs looked into. -
All planes suddenly unflyable....
Leadraft replied to jlbelard's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
The sensitivity curves were changed in the last update to this S shape. I've fiddled with the settings and joystick response is not so dramatic now when pulling back or pushing forward on the stick which allows me to take off and land smoothly now. It is still too sensitive at full defection though. In screenshot below you can see where at nearly full defection, the elevator rate of movement changes rapidly, causing instability, which is what you describe Vern. All is fine until you hit that area marked in yellow circle. As long as I don't push or pull back on stick all the way, I'm fine. I've been unable to smooth that curve. Same goes for other control surface sensitivity curves. -

Ghost plane on MFD
Leadraft replied to stinger2k2's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
I Started noticing this in early October when I started flying the Cessna 308. Prior to that I was only flying the 172 and never saw the "ghost" plane. Don't know if it has to do with a recent patch or is plane specific. It is intermittent though. -
Hi Neil, I have the same problem and made a post recently here. https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?326569-Low-GPU-and-CPU-Utilization I've been doing a lot research and testing over past few days and can't get GPU usage higher than about 50%. I've tried many different settings too numerous to mention. From what I've read it's common issue many are having with MSFS. Normally a low end CPU paired with a newer GPU will bottleneck the GPU. I have a I7-8700 with a GTX 1080, so I don't see how the I7 would be bottlenecking the 1080. The only way I've increased GPU usage is to up the resolution to 150-200, but FPS suffers and image quality doesn't look any better on 1080p. Same as you, my CPU and GPU don't seem stressed at all and I'm just chalking it down to MSFS optimization issues with certain CPUs and GPUs.

Taxiway Lighting
Leadraft replied to jfitler's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Yes, it seems to be a common issue. Hopefully it's fixed at some point. -
I can't get my GPU and CPU usage any higher than what is indicated in screenshots below. It's the same over ocean, land and at JFK, although FPS takes a nose dive at JFK. Is this an optimization issue with the sim or is there some setting in MSFS or Nvidia that will increase usage and allow me to get more fps? Graphic settings are a mixture of medium and high, Live traffic and weather. The CPU and GPU are not working very hard. Would like to see GPU around 90% usage. CPU: I7-8700 GPU: GTX 1080 overclocked Nvidia Control Panel: Power Mgmt-Max Perf, Texture Filtering-High

ATC Approach Vectoring
Leadraft replied to jfitler's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
I think this is what's messing me up. I'll edit the flight plan to reduce altitude to say 3,000 ft, but I'm not saving the flight plan. Enroute, ATC will instruct me to increase altitude to 10,000 ft for example, to which I ignore. I believe that's screwing up my approach for IFR. -
pedals really needed?
Leadraft replied to ster100's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
I don't think pedals are absolutely necessary, to enjoy the sim, but they do offer a higher degree of control when taking off in windy conditions. I especially like using the pedals in crosswind landings, but when flying, I don't use them. I suppose there are ways to compensate for lack of pedals in setup of joystick and keyboard. Personally for me, it's one of those things that once you start using them, you can't imagine going without, and it adds another level of realism. -
ATC and Co-Pilot Voices Very Low
Leadraft replied to Leadraft's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Figured this out in case anyone else has this issue. If you have 2.1 speakers (2 speakers plus woofer), audio channel must be set to Stereo. I had it set on 5.1 Surround. -
ATC and Co-Pilot Voices Very Low
Leadraft replied to Leadraft's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Well, I switched my external speakers from the Sound Blaster Card to the onboard audio output and the atc/co-pilot voices blew my doors off, so it's definitely something with the Sound Blaster. I don't have any control panel software for the SB, so I'll see if I can download a ui for the card. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. At least I've identified the cause now and hopefully will find a fix.
