  1. Thanks. The link to the Manual is to Google docs, which says the doc can't be found. The video is a little helpful. But if you are saying that the plane must always be flown manually, and does not lock on to a heading or altitude, my experience thus far is otherwise.
  2. I recently bought the Aermacchi training jet from the in-sim Marketplace. Nice plane, 3 versions, many liveries. Even better: I was able to fly it reasonably well. But I haven't been able to figure out the AP, which is very different from that in all the other planes I have. There appears to be no master switch to toggle AP on/off, and the Z key doesn't always have that effect, either. The panel has keys for Heading Hold and Course Hold, which light up when clicked, but the Course key seems to have no effect, and the Heading key works only sometimes, in conjunction with the Z key. Also, there are a couple of other keys that suggest they might follow the GPS, but none says so, and experimenting has yet to reveal exactly what they are supposed to do. Other planes will follow a course set to a waypoint or airport, but I don't see how you set one in this plane. Of course, there's no Manual. I will continue to tinker, but maybe someone here has figured it all out. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
  3. I've noticed the trees, too. For one example, the rooftop terrace on the FAO Bldg. in Rome has trees growing up the side of the building and onto it. But to be clear: If I approach these vertical surfaces, they eventually disappear. It seems the sim isn't loading them completely until you're right on top of them. I haven't seen this in areas outside Italy, and in Italy only after WU IX.
  4. I've enjoyed WU IX's enhancements of cities, and especially all the people in places like Piazza S. Marco and Il Vaticano. But the trade-off seems to be a dramatic deterioration in vertical surfaces, like the landscape near Sorrento in my screenshot. (If you go closer, it gets better.) Is this because the scenery in WU IX is too dense for my rig? I haven't yet seen this problem outside Italy. i7-8700 3.7 GHz GeForce GTX 1070 Ti; 8GB onboard AORUS Z370 Gaming 5 LGA 1151 ATX motherboard 16GB RAM 2 TB hard drive 27” MSI gaming monitor
  5. I believe the answer to your Q is NO! I have been disappointed in the save flight function since Day One. In the first place, it doesn't save all the parameters: clouds are missing, the AP settings are undone and the flight plan is usually (but not always) nowhere to be found; even if the waypoints show up in your NavLog, they are usually missing from the panel, and have to be reentered manually (if you know how to do that! Have I ever mentioned there's NO MANUAL?!) Also, if you've altered any flight conditions in a preset and subsequently save a flight, when you load the saved flight, your changes will be undone. That is, you'll be back to the original preset. And you can't change it! Most annoying: the time function is often not preserved. So let's say you're flying in the Grand Canyon in late afternoon, and Save. When you load the saved file, it may be the dead of night. And you can't change it! Someone here once suggested that you save your flight at the outset as a .PLN file, with a .FLT file of the same name; he or she thought that subsequent changes in the .FLT file would be preserved. Didn't work for me. It's incredible that you can't change the weather, time, etc., in a saved flight. Seems to me this should be easy to fix, but I guess not.
  6. That was at full throttle. As I said, my mixture is set to auto. I was climbing towards FL100 at 500 fpm. Scattered clouds, low winds, no precip. Certainly no icing.
  7. No big deal, but still annoying. Maybe someone here knows what this is all about. Beechcraft Baron (trouble-free plane since Day One in MSFS) on AP (from Granada to Pamplona, if it matters), perfectly normal. IAS about 130 kts. Mixture and prop on auto. Fuel 48%. Then, a gradual loss of power, until plane stalls, dives. Disengage AP, regain control. Reengage AP. after a while, the same damn thing happens. Back to Main Menu. Try different flight with Baron. After about 10 minutes, same thing happens. WHY WHY WHY ???
  8. After the update, many of my options were eradicated. I am working through them to get it back to where I was. But this one stymied me: pop-ups on my AP and other panels when I am trying to enter values, etc. So you can't see the control you are trying to change. I have spent LITERALLY YEARS in Assistance Options trying to find how to get these #!*@&%ing things off.
  9. OK, so it's not just me. Gee, that makes me feel great. Tim, I don't have an Xbox App, at least not that I know of. But I did reboot my PC and was able to launch the sim. First, I had to do a "mandatory update," which seemed to be nothing more than reinstalling all the superfluous liveries I had laboriously deleted in the past year in order to lessen the load time. Then it opened in the middle of a tutorial lecture by a robot on control settings, of all things. Damn them. Went past that to my Options page, and discovered that most (but not all) of my controls had been had been reset. Damn them again. Even after messing with it for a while, I have been unable to reset my elevator trim surfaces to where they were yesterday. Given that they, too, have tech problems like server malfunctions, why can't I go back to the settings I had yesterday? That's not the server. That's programming inadequacy. Damn them.
  10. I've had no trouble opening this sim since it was gifted to me in August 2020. But for some reason, today I tried to open it and got an error message: "Due to unexpected difficulties, your game license could not be authenticated. Go to MS Store and sign in with the Xbox account used to purchase MSFS" (or words to like effect). Went to Store. My account was open. MSFS is in my Library (and noted as updated last week). Clicked on "Open." MSFS started up, but then jammed at the opening screen. Signed out, signed in to MS Store. But this time, I chose the "Go to XBox Option" on the menu next to MSFS. Error message: "App not working. Try again later." Tried a third time. This time, simply clicked on "Open" once again. Same thing as on first try. Totally hung. What on earth is the matter with these computer geniuses? There's been no problem with my "license authentication" for 15 months. What have they done now? I will try the FlightSimulator forum too, but I find it unnecessarily confusing and generally useless. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
  11. Imagine someone trying to set up a screen shot featuring something on the ground, like a landmark building.
  12. Thanks also. But unless I'm failing to grasp something here, you cannot change any of the Flight Condition parameters when you reopen a saved flight. True since Day One.
  13. Thanks, but I seldom use Real Weather. Seems to me if you set your weather (and winds) before you save, they ought to be the same when you load the saved flight (.flt file).
  14. Forget about the fact that I can't get a flight plan to survive in a saved flight. It's the damn winds! When I reopen a saved flight, the winds bear little resemblance to what they were at the time of the save. Worse still, they are insanely erratic, sheering by as much as 90 degrees several times in a few seconds. If I am on AP, it is still technically possible to continue the flight, but it is unpleasant and surely unrealistic. In a saved flight, of course, you can no longer adjust wind speed/direction or any other weather attribute. Is this a bug? If so, does no one else have it?
  15. I’ve asked this Q here a while ago, but the answers didn’t work for me. So I’m hoping that the passage of time has helped. I’m at wit’s end trying to save a flight plan in a saved flight. Usually (but not invariably), when I reopen the saved flight, I’m in the right place, but there’s no plan on the panel. The NAVLOG on the Task bar accurately shows the waypoints, however. Someone here once told me to save both a PLN and a FLT with identical names before I take off, and then save the flight as a FLT file when I want to quit. (Once in flight, of course, you can’t save a PLN file). But that didn’t work. Sometimes there’s a work-around: you can enter the waypoints manually when you resume the saved flight. But even then, it’s no go because the winds are unlike what they were when I saved the flight, and are so erratic that either the plane is uncontrollable or the flight is not pleasurable. I cannot possibly be the only one with this chronic problem. Right?
  16. OMG! The gremlins had set my clouds to LOW! Now that I have reset them to ULTRA, they look . . . . . . a lot better! In fact, acceptable. The thing is, in P3D plus Rex, you could actually choose the type of clouds at different levels. You could put highly accurate cirrus at 40K where they belong, and big puffy altocumulus down below. With many, many variations. Maybe some day.
  17. Stinger, the second screenshot looks OK, because, as I said, it is from P3D with the Rex Softclouds add-on. I'll try some of the other suggestions later on, but meanwhile here are my specs: i7-8700 3.7 GHz GeForce GTX 1070 Ti; 8GB onboard AORUS Z370 Gaming 5 LGA 1151 ATX motherboard 16GB RAM 2 TB hard drive 27” MSI gaming monitor I have my FPS capped at 32, and I doubt my graphics card is having trouble, since in recent months, both my CPU and GPU are showing fairly low values: like 15 and 65 respectively.
  18. Over a year ago, I complained about the clouds in MSFS, saying they looked cartoonish. I was rebuked for that, but what the heck. This afternoon, I tried a flight out of KDCA with Real Weather. The sim got it the weather close enough (I can look out the window), but I was struck by how poor the clouds looked compared to RL, and I got to thinking about the beautiful clouds I used to get in P3D with the Rex SoftClouds payware add-on. Don't believe me? Think I'm imagining things? Here are 2 screenshots, the first taken today in MSFS, the second in 2019 in P3D with the Rex add-on. Can't somebody fix this glaring disparity? (Rex, are you listening?)
  19. Often I don't like the real weather -- or the time of day.
  20. I started with FS 2 on an Apple IIc around 1990 (I have the computer and the floppy disc stored in plastic peanuts, waiting for the day they will bring untold riches on eBay), and I generally agree with davidc2. I too have had glitches with updates, but after sufficient profanities was able to sort them out. Also, I've found this forum enormously helpful in figuring out things that were less than obvious. After 20 months, here are my 2 gripes: Minor: I know others here disagree, but distant scenery on bright days looks washed out, overexposed and/or with insufficient color saturation. Major: Asobo and MS have provided almost no info about the program, especially the aircraft -- not one word about their controls and where to find stuff. It is astonishing to me that a program of this complexity came without a manual of any sort. This has left all of us fumbling in the dark, shouting out to others for help (as on this forum and on YouTube). (The SoFly manual is next to useless beyond basics for beginners. And who needed a history of simming?) I'll end with just one example. I started another active thread here asking Qs about the Flight Condition settings, especially wind settings. The FC menu is very detailed, complex and not intuitive. And yet -- not a word of explanation from MS (or SoFly, for that matter). Not a word.
