  1. 1 - NEVER land with brakes on

    2 - Be sure you are close to stall speed when touching down. Full flaps may require a slight power

    increase

    3 - Make sure that rudder control (twist) on flight stick (if any) is disabled. Interference between two

    controls can cause erratic behavior

    4 - If you still have problems, reduce rudder pedal sensitivity by adjusting response curve in Controls

  2. Thanks for your reply. I am currently running 2x8 GB and want to increase to either 4x8GB or 2x16GB to accommodate MSFS 2020. So I either add 2x8GB to my two empty slots (less expensive), or replace what I have with 2x16GB (more expensive). My concern is if the cheaper solution will provide noticeably slower performance.

  3. I seem to remember reading somewhere, that 4x 8GB RAM modules would be slower than 2x 16GB modules in a 32GB setup using similar units. Anybody know if this is true? If so, any significant difference?

  4. I was thinking the same thing - the plane is rock steady through the entire flight. But the cloud formations are beautiful. Maybe turbulence can be turned off? I don't have the sim yet.

  5. WOW! Runs well at 6.5Mb/s? I currently have 5Mb/s and was not even going to try. However, at my current speed I think the full download would take around 27 hours, which is hard to face. But your idea of testing with the Game Pass is very good.

  6. I may have missed it, but I have seen no comments pertaining to download speed and the effects on scenery loading as you fly. I am curious about experiences with different bandwidths, any delays in scenery display? MS lists minimum speed of 5Mb/s (???) all the way to 50Mb/s. I have to increase my internet speed, and would like to get a feel for what is really necessary for smooth operation, realizing of course that graphics and display settings will affect the requirements.

  9. Thanks for your info and thoughts. Your reference to pcgamer is interesting, but they are discussing overclocking. What I think of doing is "underclocking" some PC-4/3000Mhz RAM in an older motherboard limited to 2130 Mhz clock speed. I don't see why it would not work, but Have not found a clear answer yet.

  10. Is there any problem using RAM rated at a higher frequency than the max. supported frequency of the motherboard? It will run at the MB frequency of course, but should be no problem - right?

  12. I was planning to get a new SSD to provide room for MSFS, but I am thinking if I uninstall P3D, XP11 and Aerofly FS2, I will have enough room on my present SSD. Hmmm - interesting thought!

  13. I have noticed a similar problem in my setup, but it has been of no consequence. I run a free program called CAM, it shows everything going on in the computer such as temperature, workload, clock speed, fan speed for both CPU and GPU, as well as RAM usage and used and free space on my drives. When running any of my flightsim programs bringing up CAM to the screen stops all keyboard functions, but the sim and CAM are still working. As soon as I take the CAM display off the screen the keyboard functions normally again. I have no idea why this happens, and it is not really a problem. It may not be relevant to you, but take a close look at the programs running or displaying in your situation.

  14. I would certainly like to try flying in VR - if I knew somebody who has one. I am always interested in new technology, but I can't imagine being as comfortable with that monstrosity on my head, as I am now sitting in front of my wide screen HD monitor!

  15. Oh yes Gander,

     

    That's where many people from both North America and Europe stopped to refuel on early Trans Atlantic flights! My wife was among them.

     

    In 1962 she was in high school and on a group "educational tour" to Europe. They left D.C. then stopped to refuel at Gander and at Shannon. Going the other way, they reversed the process.

     

    Two years ago we were on the QMII returning to NYC from Southampton when a passenger became deadly ill and they diverted far enough north so a rescue chopper from Gander could take the ill passenger off the upper deck of the ship for treatment. Having been an old chopper guy myself, I'd have loved to be able to get up on that deck, but for obvious reasons, it wasn't allowed.

     

    Having said that, I did some pretty good pictures of the bird from our stateroom patio. ;)

    Good memories! My first flight to Europe was in 1962 on an Icelandair DC-6 from JFK (different name back then, but I don't remember) to Gander for refueling, then to Reykjavik, Iceland, and then to Copenhagen, Denmark. In Reykjavik they bussed us to a restaurant downtown for dinner. Drinks were free in Tourist Class!

  16. You are aware that the Aussie price is for the Xbox version, that will be released after the PC version, & is a 'gap filler' price.

    That means that if you order it, for Xbox, you will get it at some unspecified date, and at a price that could be less, or more than that displayed. It should be obvious to all that no pricing has been released as yet, nor a release date for Xbox.. And the format for Xbox is??

     

    Yes, it says clearly that it is a $A88.00 pre-order price for the XBox One version, and the regular price for that will be $A99.00. I only posted that in response to the initial discussion of future cost, which I have never seen printed anywhere.

  17. You are right, the X and Y sensors are magnetic - not optical. I don't know about the Z axis, but I use it with no problems. I just noticed that the throttle is becoming erratic like a typical dirty potentiometer, but it does not bother me as I use the throttle grip from a Saitek X52 Pro in a HOTAS configuration. Yes - a potentiometer in the Saitek stick failed. I still recommend the T16000M over sticks using potentiometers.

     

    Over the years I have fixed noisy pots using a spray bottle of contact cleaner with lubricant available in most electronic parts stores, but eventually the pots will fail.
