heading altitude and autopilot keys stopped working with the mouse !
What AC are you using?
Any third party add ons? If so, have you disabled them, and if so what are the results?
Have you checked the key assignments? MSFS is famous (not in a good way) of changing some assignments.

I am not sure, so I would just give it a shot. Once the sim is loaded up, go into the options settings, find the keyboard/mouse settings and you should be able to adjust them. Not sure exactly what else to tell you, but give it a shot

So can I circle or rotate around the aircraft with the drone camera?
Which key combinations are those? Not sure if these are default (but I am not one to change things up), Insert key to launch, on the numeric keypad, 4 & 6 to look left right, 5 to bring the drone back behind the plane, spacebar to reorient it to level. W and I think S to move it forward and back, not sure about up and down though.

Thanks, that helped a little. I finally found the airport buildings. Guess I was expecting more.

It has been a few years now since I installed and activated MSFS. If I move to new computer, won't I need to reactivate it? What credentials will I need. I think all I used initially was a 25 character Gift Code and a 10 number Redeem Code. Will my Player number and email address be sufficient?
Thanks,
Seattlerust
You should just need your Xbox account info. The settings will transfer over, should not need to activate. You will need to manually move your Flight Plans, and any 3rd party items in your Community Folder

Thanks. Very helpful actually. Do you know if the add-on "passengers" is still around and available for msfs 2020 ?

I am a bit confused with all of that file types. Flight plans are .flt files, right
For pause and resuming, so I assume this is not possible, am I right?
Thanks again.
I "think" the FLT file is the one that gets created when you save.
I do know that the other file the PLN is created whenever I make a flight plan (not a saved in flight).

Thank you guys.
So, I don't get to save my flight plans. I mean, I am unable to save them and load them at a later date, for example, resuming my flights. Is that possible?
Your flight plans CAN be saved, there just saved locally, not like all your other settings. If you reinstall MSFS it will overwrite (at least it use to) your old Flight Plans. That's why I suggested a backup of them
As for resuming a flight, see this thread-

Welcome!
I cannot answer all your questions, however, concerning the desktop, IIRC, there is a website which has what specs you need for the desktop. Of course, that depends on what version you go with. There is SO much debate over which is best etc., I won't go into that, lol. Just something to keep in mind, 2020 has been out for 3+ years and has gotten better over time. With that being said, Microsoft is releasing MSFS 2024 sometime in 2024.
One recommendation I will make is, get a system with at least 16 gigs, preferably 32 of RAM.
As for using a joystick, I use the Logitech Extreme 3d PRO and love it!!!!

I save my Flight Plans as a backup. Those are NOT stored on the cloud (unless this has changed??)

Have you tried turning the rolling cache back on? It is used for much more than storing scenery files. The default size is 8gb which works fine on my system.
Hmm, that is an option will give it a try.

If this is happening with a default aircraft and default scenery, try deleting your rolling cache file in: AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache
Then re-launch the sim, which will create a new local cache file automatically.
Glad the problem was fixed for @kingnorris
Have a similar problem. If I take a LONG flight, like from KMIA to KJAX, about an hour into the flight, the sim will CTD. This occurs on another long flight KJAX to KTUS (8 hours). This occurs if I have a bunch of mods, or no mods. I am using the default C172 for all of the flights.
The problem is (1) I have the sim loaded onto my E drive and (2) On my C drive, I have found the path (AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\) however, there is only the packages folder, a work folder and a text file, which has my login in name and email.
In the sim I have the rolling cache turned off. I deleted the file anyways (just in case it was there ??). Any other thoughts or suggestions??

I can't speak to the AMD processor, but I would go with at least 16 of RAM, and a much bigger SSD. Or a separate one. The 256 gig would used for the system, and the second one for the sim and add on's.

Also, is there a way that I could use the keyboard to program the GPS? Using the mouse and dragging the knobs around is fairly tedious.
Have you tried using Little Nav Map and importing the flight plan into the sim? I've made some very intricate FP using LNM and it has greatly enchained the sim experience

I finally purchased a new PC but when i try to download MSFS it keeps asking for my xbox gamer tag! I just want to download for my PC. What's the secret?
thanks
If I am remembering correctly (always a risk, lol), you need an Xbox account (where you can create your gamer tag and it will be displayed in the sim), but you don't have to have the hardware. Just need it to download the sim.

I am not an expert on specs for MSFS, but it looks solid enough. I would try a flight around New York City, London, Chicago in VR and see how you do (that's how I gauge my performance)
As for VR, I feel it has gotten better over the years. Make sure you running the Open XR toolkit (think you can get it from the MS Store for free). There are a LOT of You Tube video's on how to optimize your VR performance.
I use the HP Reverb myself and love it!!!!

I'm finally ready to move up to MSFS, just wondering if the intial requirements are still good to use or has anyone found a better config?
thanks

Look at what I am running (signature). I also fly a LOT with VR, don't have everything maxed out, but I can fly in big cities, no stutters.

I like it!!!
Nice to see MSFS get astronomical events incorporated!

One thing which might be worth mentioning… everytime I boot (or reboot) the pc, the Pimax software asks for permissions. I always says yes, but it keeps asking everytime I boot up. Is this normal?Maybe the next step might be to reinstall Windows. A bit drastic I know, but I haven't done it once yet, since getting the new pc.
You "could" go the main Pimax folder, right click on it, and give it full control under the Security tab. After you right click, choose Security, then 1/2 way down, To change permissions click Edit (click Edit). You will see different choices in the Group/User names, highlight one, click Add and in the pop up dialog box use, Everyone, click ok and you go out.,
I've done this in years past while dealing with permissions issues at work. Not sure if it will work for you but hoping so

I usually wait a day or so before downloading - never had a problem. Cheers.
Same. And then I usually wait to start it before going to bed, wake up in the am and it is ready to go

Unfortunately that is not unusual. I''ve experienced that myself on just about every update. I usually just start it and go to bed, and by the time I get it up, it is downloaded.

I use Little Nav Map for my flight planning (I am a low and slow type of flyer, 1000 AGL is my preference). With LNM I use a LOT of custom waypoints, get the flight set up to what I want to fly over, then I export it to the sim via LNM. Once in the sim, I load up the newly created FP, if I am not on the correct runway (or location at the airport), i just click on the space where I want to start, select Departure, I do the same thing if I am flying an ILS approach and need to land at a certain runway, I just select the runway, click on it and select Arrival. I usually resave that flight plan for use later on.
May not be exactly how you doing, but hoping it will provide you with a template to go off of.

I think I got it whipped now. Thanks for the help.
MadMav24
Not sure if that means it's been fixed, however, I've been having the same issue with the C172 (stock version).
What I have done to "fix" it is on the GPS (once in the air), select the Direct To button, it will show the next waypoint, select enter (to select it) and then enter again to Activate). Once that is done, the NAV portion will function like it should (unless this is the way it should be done).
Some times though, all I have to do is to hit the NAV button the AP and it will work, but most of the time, the way I got it working is by doing the steps above.

You can also remove AC that you do not plan on flying. That along freed up a LOT of space for me (only fly GA)
