  1. Ah, but there's a reason. On my 1st SSD I have Win 10 and Railworks Train simulator. And this is not a simple matter copying this across to put it on another HD. With the basic FSX on the SSD, too, it's about 95% full, and that's without any addons. So the easier one to move is FSX. I'm hoping that being on a different SSD from Windows won't slow FSX down.
  2. Hello again. Am I to assume that if I instal some items, when I transfer to my new SSD it's only a question of scale?
  3. Sure looks that way. I'm usually careful but on this occasion it slipped through the cracks. And I'd done countless hours of work on timetables and on extensively modified airports, making them closer to real life airport charts, stands, etc. Ah well, time to start again.
  4. Hi Top Gunn. Yes, it's a recently installed disk version and the only addon so far is one item of scenery, to experiment with. If this works it will be so much easier. Thank you Now I just have to get an SSD. lol
  5. I forget. Do AI aircraft have call signs?
  6. I'm currently running both Train simulator and FSX along with Win 10 on an SSD. I want to uninstall FSX and install it on a 2nd SSD. Are there any problems when doing this? What are the advantages, disadvantages and pitfalls? I also have 2 x standard HDD's
  7. Thanks guys. All sorted. But thanks for the tip on airport selection. I did wonder which airport would show.
  8. Hi Top Gunn. Yes to the first question. But it's not showing in the scenery listing inside the sim, so can't add it.
  9. Trying to install Cardiff. Cardiff folder has scenery and texture sub folders. I placed Cardiff in Addon Scenery folder in FSX but when I try to add it in the sim it's not there.
  10. Hello again, Top Gun. Tried averything - to no avail. Yes, been out of flight simming for a few years. Got interested in train sims, but my appetite's been wetted again. From what I see and read, FS2020 is disappointing, at least for the time being, so I've resurrected FSX. But horrors, this file issue had destroyed years of work. I may be able to recover by self made timetables but all the downloaded addon aircraft, which enabled me to propulate all of my favourite airports, have gone. Same with scenery, sound, panels, timetables, etc So, better get started again.
  11. To reply to you all, but Brian first. Yes, both sets are empty. So this is what I did: My old PC wasn't particularly fast so I bought another. On my old computer I took all the simobjects and scenery folders and transferred them to my new PC. Some I transferred using wireless but some via a dongle. I then saved them on a spare drive (nothing wrong with the drive, everything else works, and I've tested it) but can't remember whether I checked the files after transferring them. Now I've installed FSX on a new SSD and FSX works fine. Transferred the addon files into FSX (into the correct folders) but didn't check them. Had no reason to think there might be a problem. By the way, I've transferred other items, e.g., train simulator files, with no problems. It seems it's only FSX.
  12. Just checked everything. ALL folders are empty, scenery, for example.
  13. I know that's a bit obscure but in order to re-install FSX some 5 years after deleting my previous hard drive I saved all my addon aircraft. Each aircraft had the correct sub folders inside (panel, sound, texture, etc). I've now installed FSX again on a new hard driveand then transferred all the addon aircaft to the simobject folder. Again, all the sub folders are there but when I checked inside each sub folder they're all empty ???? Where have they gone????
  14. Thank you, both. Going to have a cuppa and do some catching up. Goodnight.
  15. I'm just returning after about 5 years away from this sim and my memory ain't wot it used to be. Can someone refresh my memory; what folders are the following stored in, in FSX:- AI Aircraft Addon Aircraft 3rd Party Scenery 3rd part timetables Many thanks.
  16. Please tell me, if I land at Heathrow (ignoring coronavirus, obviously0, what aircraft will I see? In FSX I had scores of real word aircraft, including AI aircraft and real world airline timetables (many written by myself), so that I could pretty much fully populate Heathrow with realistic aircraft. Often having to queue to land. It seems that with FS2020 all I'll see is a handfull of default aircraft. Would that be right? If that's the case I shan't be buying it until 3rd party developers create the tools to do something similar to what FSX did. And maybe develope a way to import FSX stuff into FS2020. Won't that be something? I think FS2020 is going to leave a lot of people disappointed and I think Microsoft tossed themselves a curve by not allowing imports from previous versions.
  17. Doesn't sound too encouraging. I have scores of flight schedules for various airlines, including airlines like Monarch, Iberia, Air Wales, etc., etc. They all refer to specific aircraft. Are we going to be able to use those aircraft from the previous flight sim?
