  1. Don't know why, I keep reading some 'S 2020 threads😀 because I fly FSX and will not at my age port over to the latest sim- all my hardware is FSX etc and t'would be too much hassle. However, I saw the AP on A320 query and I had a problem with the AP in FSX, which had a unique solution. Might be the same situation in your sim- don't know but thought I'd post it anyway. I have flown the AP in 747, 737, Bombardier, Maltbys Comet, Trident etc, and couldn't for the life of me get the AP to behave in the A320/330. In the VC, I was inputting the alt, hdg , speed, etc but the plane wouldn't "stay" with or obey these values. In FSX the autopilots bar is similar for the 747 and A320, so why didn't it work in the latter? I didn't get things right until when entering the values, I then had to "press" ( left click with mouse) on the centre of the alt hdg and speed knobs. This caused a subtle change in the shade colour of the knob, ( to simulate it indenting slightly, I suppose) . This caused the PFD to show ( in green) that those alt, hdg and speed inputs were now working. This pressing of the knob was not necessary when using the 747 autopilot bar, so I'd been making inputs and been puzzled as to why the plane was not acting on them. Maybe it's the same in ms2020. Maybe what I've written is irrelevant to your problem. Anyway, something to consider😀
  2. Hi. Got a Cougar. Foxy software. I use it together with a spitfire sim controller, I.e replica spitfire joystick and pedals.
  3. Oh, thank you. Excellent that they are supported. . Unfortunately, I have old joysticks, not able to be used with windows 10. Does ms2020 need windows 10.? I have a feeling it does. It does look wonderful scenery, though. Tempting.
  4. Well, well. As a FSX flyer using Gen X scenery of England, and tracker, I thus get a pretty good replication of what a RW pilot sees. It gets not very good at lower altitudes, but overall I see good scenery and I see it as a RW pilot does. I wondered what fs 2020 gives, and I was pointed to uk scenery video on YouTube. Soon as I saw the camera view showing the external view of the plane, I "smelled a rat" This thread now indicates that fs2020 is light years ( all right, hyperbole😀) from giving me a pilots view where I can look out the window, e.g by turning my head slightly, and lean forward to look down over the left window etc. Just like a real pilot would To say that the new sim going backwards in replicating RW flying is acceptable , is strange . It is called a flight "simulator ", Isn't it? What fs 2020 is now, is not that by the sounds of it. It's a sort of flight simulator. It's like a game where you watch a plane fly around over breathtaking scenery is it?. I take it that trackir does not work with fs2020, is that right? Also, are there VC cockpits even?
  5. Wonderful scenery, but a little worried by having the external view of the plane. Does the sim give that sort of detail, i.e. Perfect, if you have a VC view using tracker? or equivalent . In my FSX I use tracker in VC planes, and if I could do that in fs2020 and see that scenery detail as shown in this video, then it would be amazing. Is that achievable in fs2020, and if so, how?
  6. Same here, and of course can't afford the time - O'Hare to Heathrow is a long way😀 Using the map is very quick. Just have to be careful that the altitude and speed values don't change inadvertently.
  7. This may be complete anathema to you, but I use FS Commander. I make flight plans with it, mainly flying IFR in airliners. I have it running on a second monitor. It shows route etc, but one of the little windows it has, gives the distance from destination airport, amongst other info. If you are a purist, this may be not for you. Lol My main use of it is to make the flight plan, in which I determine cruise altitude, which parking area I start from, etc. But mostly, it has all the ILS frequencies of the destination sirport, for when ATC tells me which runway is in use to land on.
  8. So, why would I want to update computer or flight sim? To fly over England and hav accurate fields roads, houses etc, as I have with FSX and windows XP, is a vital part of my flight swimming experience. Does fs 2020 , or windows 10 offer this? I too haven't been keeping in the loop for some years, so what do you see as you fly over UK now?
  9. Hi How many airliner pilots fly the full journey? I suspect most, like me, cut out the cruise bit. I take off, climb out to cruise. Then I short cut to just before descent begins, and then land. Maybe some use time X 2 or more. I go to World/Map. Move the plane to near the destination airport, and go back into the sim, request IFR from ATC and continue through to land. Am I in the minority? What do you guys do?
  10. Thank you John, and thank you all. Interesting about not using Sperry. during climb? So no auto pilot functions during climb, just pure manual control? Reference trim. As far as I can see there is a trim wheel, and other buttons that seem to adjust trim. But using them in this plane is not done by mouse over the trim wheel( as in other planes) So what trim is there of the plane before take off. Seems to me that one uses those trim adjustments to ascertain neutral trim, then, for take off, dial in a little up trim.. This is what happens in David Maltbys Comet and BAC 1-11. And in these, when cruising, level flight with no exaggeration of angle of attack is achieved. I have a feeling , with this DC 4, that when the flight is loaded, the plane is not at neutral trim. The trim dial has a couple if adjustment rotating buttons, and a "cage" button. What does that do exactly , please?
  11. Hello. I'm flying the Sperry version , not the one with the red/brown autopilot system . I know that once the Sperry is activated( green light on ), that the elevator trim is controlled by the pitch control of the Sperry. However, my problem is , at the start of the flight, I need to ensure the elevator is trimmed central. I have found climbing to 9000 and above very difficult in that I run out of puff, and stall I fly with automixture. I know about MP and RPM, and I adjust soon after take off to Mp 36 and RPM 2250. I set the trim at 5-6 degrees. ( perhaps you can advise on cowl flap settings?) Anyway, I took a look at outside view and found that after hitting the "alt hold" and getting so called level flight, that the attack angle of the plane was clearly too high. It wasn't "level" This suggested that before flight I had too much up trim in when it should have been neutral trim. Ominously, the big trim wheel in the plane doesn't seem to respond to inputs ( keyboard or mouse). I've tried using the plus/minus of the knob below the trim dial. That shifts the line representing the plane up to level, but it doesn't seem to affect the flight characteristics. Anyone able to assist please. It's pleasing to use the Sperry , but this trim issue is spoiling it. Thanks
  12. Hello On the DC4 there is an Alt hold switch to the left of the pilot seat, and an ils/localiser switch. Though they obviously assist the landing, can anyone tell me if they are authentic? I didn't know they were there when. I landed the first time. I have a feeling they aren't but I could be wrong. Cheers
  13. Cheers! The oldies make a nice change from my favourites. The David Maltby Trident and Comet.
  14. Inuss . Thanks for your reply, but I do not have trouble manually flying on to the runway to land í ½í¸€. I can do that. My problem is/was (with the DC 3 I'm flying) finding the runway from the approach heading given to me by the ATC. I can , and know where to , look to find it , as I've said, with Mark 1 eyeball, aka my eyes. Once I have it ahead of me, I can land. My query was whether there was an instrument in the DC 3 I was flying- which turns out to be identical with the default Dc3- that would point me to the runway. The" Jahn" one has an unauthentic autopilot, too unrealistic for a Dc3;the one I'm flying has a panel showing an RMI but it doesn't work. It also has an ADF that doesn't have anywhere to put in the ndb number in order to use it. However, since my earlier post, I have flown a DC 4. On that, the RMI works and it has a localiser dial also. So, in that plane, I am as happy bunny. Anyway, Thanks to everyone who has assisted here. Now lookin for the best DC 4 freeware.
  15. Avallillo and Mr Zippy... Thanks. Avallillo- I get your first para, I'm quite prepared to fly her in manually. And I appreciate that the beam is about 30 degrees off my approach heading. But then you go on to talk about the localiser dial. . What localiser dial is there in the DC 3? I can input the ils frequency in Nav 1. Fair enough - but where on the cockpit dashboard is the localiser? I use. VC and trackir, btw. Was there one on a real Dc3? Am I missing something obvious? If I chose to use the Jahn Dc3 I have no problem, but I'll double check the aeromarket DC 3 to try to find the localiser!! Thanks again
  16. Thank you gents for your replies. I probably didn't make my problem clear.-lol But, I thought I had said that I used the Sperry ok. I enjoy using it to get from one airport to the next. My problem occurs when I want to find the runway of the destination airport. Because I'm using ILS flight and following instructions of ATC,then I get to a point where I am given the heading and height to go on to then meet the glideslope beam. But of course, there is no means in a DC 3 to "grab" the beam and ride it down to the runway. I would settle for a means to get a heading to line up with runway and then fly in manually from there, but apart from Mark 1 eyeball I cannot see how to locate the runway and thus set a heading? Max- thanks for the wishes, I have the Jahn plane. It has no Sperry ( which spoils it for me ) and it does have an autopilot, as you say. But that makes it a totally unrealistic plane to fly. Yes, it has lovely switches and effects, but it's not a DC3 is it? Back to the aeromarket- it has a radiomagnetic dial , bottom left. I thought one of the needles might point to the ils frequency entered in Nav 1 on the overhead when within range, but there is no reaction by either needle. What input do I make to get such an indication on the overhead .? Anyone used it? Cheers
  17. Started to fly Dc3. The aeromarket freeware seems best, keeps things authentic. I've flown classic jets - Trident , Comet, using ILS and land using glideslope etc. But as far as I know the dc3 didn't /couldn't use that. I can fly it ILS using the Sperry thingy, but I'm struggling when I get to the heading prior to finding the glideslope. There is a cheat, I believe, (ctrl-a), but how do I know when to turn on to the runway heading in authentic manner. E,g. Approaching Liverpool runway 27, in a jet the needles would move, when I hit the beam, I would press app button and get lined up automatically. No app button in the Dc3, so what tells me? Do I have to spot runway with Mark 1 eyeball and manually fly on to it, ? Is there a tutorial anywhere? Thanks in advance
  18. Hello Sometimes I get OOM crashes, mainly I'm OK, but I came across this advice, which I followed but it didn't B work for me. I got the message but it showed a 0 (zero) value. The FSUIPC is not registered . Is that relevant, do you think? Advice appreciated. OOMs seem to be plaguing some people and I just found out how to continuously monitor your VAS through the title bar of FSX using FSUIPC. I have the registered version of FSUIPC so I am unsure if purchasing that product is necessary to implement this trick. How to implement: ...................,,,, 1. FSX Menu bar | Add-ons | FSUIPC ... 2. Select the Logging tab 3. Enter an Offset of 024C (that's a zero) 4. Enter a Type of S32 from the drop down box 5. DO NOT check the Hex checkbox 6. Press OK Now you have a continuous readout of your VAS usage on the FSX title bar. This suggestion works with people using FSX in windowed mode ... I am unsure about the other option (full screen). ........................
  19. Thanks fellas, ah yes, drivers etc. I knew deep down there would be a fly ( bluebottle, more like) in the ointment. I shall leave well alone . If it ain't broke....... Thanks. Again
  20. Hello. I run FSX on a Hdd, using windows XP. It has got many add ons, uses track ir, uses a simcontrol spitfire joystick and a Cougar joystick. It is 10 yrs old. My favourite Maltby planes are on it etc. There is also a WW1 Over Flanders field with special tweaks. It would be a nightmare to buy a new super duper windows 10 and re install everything, quite a lot of which wouldn't run on 10. I have had a thought. Could I have a modern computer built with very fast processor, top graphics card and use my existing hdd on it, so there would be no install or problem with joysticks etc. Would everything just work as it does now but faster, thus allowing higher settings on FSX? What have I not taken into account that would make it not feasible? I am too old to start again. I bow to your technical knowledge
  21. Thanks, but how do I do that please, hiw domI access this. I've forgotten
  22. Hello. I seem to remember that in FSX I can access a list if the different sceneries,e g Orbyx etc, and move them up and down in the list so that they are loaded in different priorities? Also, can I check some sceneries so that they load or don't load. E.g If I am not flying Australia, I can uncheck Australia scenery so that it doesn't load thus giving the computer less work? It's some while since I used FSX and I'm flying it on Windows XP. ,! Thanks for any help given
  23. I'll have a look tomorrow. My install is ok, but then I am using trackir( though that shouldn't make a difference. I presume that in your settings in FSX you do have virtual cockpit selected as opposed to cockpití ½í¸€Anyway, will get back after a look.
  24. Thank you very much Pomak. You know, I looked all over that website and found everything except what you did. I know I'm old but now I must be getting decrepit I had seen "flying the comet" but must have thought it was only about when it was take off and after. Anyway, it is just what I want. Do you fly this Comet? I fly it and David Maltbys 1-11. and Trident. The VCs are the best I've seen for any plane, everything works as if you are there. I use trackir and I have a projector screen with 6ft screen. Absolutely brilliant. I have tried other planes, but none have the quality of Maltbys. Everything he did was top notch. Thanks again for the heads up.Made my week!
