The Next Challenge...

If I'm reading them correctly, Caiguna isn't actually a stop, so for purposes of the AOPAA route, we really just need a visual reference (if that, since it has a VOR).

The Caiguna VOR is there in MSFS 2020.  Have not read back too far in this thread.  What is the planned aircraft type for this route?  Or is that pilot's choice like the last Rally?  Looks from the map now that I took a closer look like it is a four leg trip.  Only four landings.

My next challenge was apparently to fly something without pistons, lol.  And once in the cockpit of the Citation X - with the engines already running - I realized my castigation of this plane was from memories of the Feelthere Embraer Legacy (which I've not flown in five or six years).  The Citation's faults are mainly lack of documentation ...Where is the altitude bug adjustment?  An extended pixel search of the panel unearthed it as an invisible gauge superimposed on a  switch graphic (marked "SW Reg" on the real aircraft);  the hdg bug adjust is similarly located on a small square button near that.  They could have told me!  And I've still no idea how to program the FMC (in any airplane).

So I file a flight plan, Haneda to Tinian, IFR, high altitude airways.  And watch people fleeing the airport in droves.

Climbing out, Mt. Fuji in the distance.

cit-x.jpg.2d6d0a16498cf8aa3c6bc0b4c914bf7e.jpg

Off to Tinian, miles and miles of nothing but ocean, as far as I can see.

cit-x_2.jpg.215c7b44db76514e49328f11cc12b4b7.jpg

Not too shabby for a twenty year old plane;  everything on the 2D panel and all popups is functional in the VC (if you can find it).

cit-x_vc.jpg.4de8341bc0db79f4114dd5398c88db46.jpg

Hmm, it's getting dark, and FSNav tells me Tinian's runway is less than 6000ft and has no navaids.

cit-x_3.jpg.bbcda4396b370b53ed2854e9db74b5cd.jpg

So let's just sail over Tinian and head for Guam, only fifty miles further (image retouched for clarity).

cit-x_4.jpg.f927e1b080a71e12adc429a584e36265.jpg

Down to 5000ft, DME says forty miles to go but but no ILS received (approach function seems screwed anyway).  So here I am, my first time in this plane in years, flying IFR (for which I am thoroughly unqualified) in pitch darkness, no AP, no ILS, using GPS as a moving map.  Airport is allegedly ten miles ahead of me but I see nothing, can't they afford a beacon?  even someone waving a Techlight flashlight?  Down to 3500ft and finally, at four miles out, the runways suddenly light up.  And I've too much altitude for finals, so go around.  What am I doing in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere hand flying this supposed technological marvel?!  So one eye on the altimeter and the other watching the GPS map and somehow I found the runway again.

She actually touched down so softly, at 115kt, that I wasn't sure I had landed ...til the blasted warning lights reminded me to turn on standby power.

cit-x_lndng.jpg.dc368323c684f0518f4421d417bd1b39.jpg

Mosey over here and see what contraband is being loaded or unloaded from this behemoth.

cit-x_done.jpg.92b01a7649446afbcff065e2a43433a0.jpg

Shut down and stumble off in search of liquid forgetfulness.

cit-x_end.jpg.bbd9e1035f960d9441ab2da7c9a786f8.jpg

And I'm already working on a wide screen panel ...which will have everything labeled!  (definitely a WIP)

cit-x_pnl.thumb.jpg.2286617588e24697fd049b164e899ba6.jpg

So I'm somewhat prepared if a jet flight is called for.

see if I can put the 727 down on that 4,000 foot Strip!

Just did in FSX with no runway, stopped just before I hit the VOR.

Definitely not a pretty landing. I should have used the road that paralleled the landing path.

I wonder why you don't have a runway at Toronto City Center...
But because MFSG has recalled their Scenery of Toronto City Center at Simmarket, i recommend the following Scenery for FSX guys... – May be worth a look at.

Billy Bishop Toronto Airport FSX P3D

Now it's @ViperPilot2's turn! Hopefully we'll see how he does...

Okay, so I flew the Airbasil Mini with a 727, and it wasn't too bad considering... I got her off the ground, and climbed to FL240. Stalled a couple of times, but no biggie; I was high enough. Got to 240, HDG 63°, AP ON, and away we went. dropped to 15,000 @ 100 nm, then I waited too long and was way too high at 15 miles away, so I had to circle out and come in on 26. I got her on the ground, though!  😋

I find that I've been seduced by Speed; 1,100 nm in a little over two hours. Wow! 😲

But, this was an 'experiment', and I had fun doing it! I need more Intersections as Waypoints, so next time a bit more planning from the IFR Book will help wonders. I also need to get familiar with my EasyFMC gauge I got long ago.

Thanks to jgf for his Tuber Tips; I can do it! 😁

Melo... The timeframe from the Rally was 1976, so most any GA airplane will do. Lots of Cessnas, Bonanzas, Pipers, etc. Photos of the Lineup:

And i did it again...

This Time coming from Kangerlussuaq with the Air Greenland DeHavilland Canada Dash 7-200
As ViperPilot2 did... --> Landing on Runway 26/8. Lots more Eyecandy, landing left of the City...

Not really a big challenge with the rather small Turboprop. During this Flight i thought about doing the same on the A330... that would be more of a Challenge 😁

LOTS of interesting stuff there, a P-68, a Turbo-Porter, a couple of 337s, and a few more 310s, and a DAK of all things!

Needs a couple of Brit entries though. 🙂

I'll create the dirt runway at Caigunga and upload on this site for the FSX'rs,

Just in case you get "urge" to try something different.

Maybe even put out a "fictional" small restaurant, so you can stop for some good Aussiie refreshment and hospitality.

It looks like we are heading down under for the next rally.

Do we have a consensus on this, so we can start planning, repaints, etc?

If so, i have enough of Repaints on my Saab 340 and definitely will do it either on:

Depending on the Destinations chosen, I'd be in for this ralley indefinitely.
Please include some, which allready were made and are available for download either as Freeware in the VOZ Package or as Payware from MFSG.
Cause I'm simply not a fan of Default Airports specially not in Australia as there mostly only is a short or longer runway and nothing else available... not even an FBO Building.

Thanks Airbasil ... I'm flying my simple route as something of a test for the destination fly-in concept and will report-in on arrival.  May take a few days as holiday activities are starting to fill up the schedule.  Already feel the idea has promise ... 👍

Sounds good to me.  The only question is timing - maybe mid-late January?

Oh, and it seems some of us are already running AirBasil's Airliners-to-CYTZ Fly-in Challenge (Pics to follow - the Bosss'll be happy).

I agree, we all need some time with family and friends (we have some outside of simming) this time of your.

Ah, I get a few extra weeks of practice;  my "official" holidays are done.  My ex and our daughter both have birthdays the week of Thanksgiving, so for forty years we've had a family festival that week for two birthdays, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.  My youngest grandson was also born that week so it's three birthdays now;  and Aidan, now 23, insists we continue.  But I still have a tree, and will watch the Grinch and Rudolph ("I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up").

Enjoy the season, however you may, or may not, celebrate.

The Victa Airtourer is Australian, that may qualify as British.  And it is available for FS, though I've only found models for FS98 and FSX.
