the Scenery (specially Las Vegas) is not really reflecting the Era after WWII  as my Sim fitts the current Era of Flight

Lol, my sim contains everything from WWI airbases to the spaceship base from "Fireball XL-5"; and AI covers the same range, you'll encounter Bleriot crossing the channel once a week, and the Jupiter 2 (from "Lost in Space") flying between New Mexico and Australia every few days.

For our flight the same airports are in the same locations, so we all flew the same distance, just with with different landscapes.  Hope you had fun.

Allways... flying those old crappy birds with Star Engines is allways fun... there's lots of potential that they fail or leak oil or other things...
so there's allways something to fix which makes it interesting to tie them out of the hanger's once a year and get them to a spin.

Five point five five hours, should be five hours thirty-three for JGF. That drops me another place. Why am I drawing attention to it?

Still, my warmest congratulations to Suzanne, John and Mike for that lightning-fast dash.

Yep, looks like I made a addition Error. My Bad. I've corrected it and re-entered the Correct Total in the Tally.

Thank you for pointing that out. Again, my Apologies. 😞

I agree!  IMO the best entertainment Vegas has to offer is the buffets.

Do they still have "cheap" Buffets in Lost Wages these days, or are they all north of $50 like they are here at the Casinos in Blackhawk and Central City? I haven't been to LV since the early 2000's.

Nice Airplane, Airbasil_1! Is that Milton Shupe's XP-47J?

Absolutely it is a real beauty... and yep it is the one from Milton Shupe... Love all of his developped aircraft... thei're just superbe!

+1000 on that! Through the years, Milton has always looked out for us Niners, and his Models are both a beauty to see and to fly. He personally assisted me with his Beech 18 Model when I had trouble locating one, and I've always admired him for going the extra mile for me. His Spartan Executive is in my top 5 favorite airplanes to fly in FlightSim.

“It gives me great pleasure to accept this prize on behalf of my team and our sponsors: Squitts Porridge Oats.” I looked around, everyone seemed relaxed except Smolinski and the Squitts Marketing Manager, I guess they felt somewhat overdressed in Tuxedos; not the usual dress seen at the Southside Diner.

I continued: “This prize will, in no small way, ensure our charitable trust will have surplus funds to distribute to needy aged aviators.” I looked around again “I see some here may well be approaching the aged criteria as I speak.”

Someone shouted: “Sit down and shut up or we'll ALL be in that category before YOU finish!”

“Before I do that I must thank Viper for organising this crazy race, and all those who participated. Not forgetting Smolinski here, who despite his keyboard failing, managed to join us this evening.”

Smolinski smiled at the mention. I don't think he got invited to many parties.

“A part of the prize will be donated to the CAC (Cleveland Airtraffic Controllers benevolent fund).

Of particular mention Dangerous Dave's B29 and JMSR's Mustang both polished to an inch of their airworthiness certificates. And of course we all know who the real winner is:

taoftedal

His Canadian Sea Fury almost as fast as his graciousness at timing. Our team thank you!

Before I sit down there are a couple of other competitors I would like to mention.”

Groans from the rest of the table.

“Defaid, that miracle of story telling, if he had won, this speech would have been twice as long but twice as enjoyable. Not too sure about how he and his navigator managed to travel through time to get here, must have been something to do with that green tractor beam. Was that out of X-Files or The Outer Limits? But never mind, they're here now! Don't mention the dog though, way too scary!

And what about jgf? Have any of us twiddled and fiddled with more .cfgs or .air files?”

“Sit down! They want to serve the food.”

“Just one more thing before I do. Suzanne was wondering if anybody had or knew where John's bmp was?

Well thanks all, I raise a glass to you.”

A quick chorus of:

Should old acquaintance be forgot
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot
and old lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear
for auld lang syne
we'll take a cup of kindness yet
for auld lang syne.

Someone pulled me into my seat and the food was served.

Oh my, Airbasil_1 ... looks like you've got that 'Jug' loaded up above max gross.  Remember, this was a race ... not a dogfight!  🙂

It's all within the allowed weight limits. 🙃 Cruising at about 325 knots on FL280 without any issues.

As I indicated in a previous Post, the only "Historical" attributes to this Event were the Name of the Event, the choice of Airplanes because Joe Public could have bought a P-38 or P-51 as Surplus immediately after the War, and a Minimum of Fuel Stops keeping in the "spirit" of the OG Bendix. I arbitrarily chose the four Legs of the Event by taking the Total Distance, dividing it by 4, then choosing the closest Airport to the Direct Route SkyVector plotted out. I also kept in mind both the potential Airplane entries and their Fuel Range running full out, and my previous experience in a similar Bendix event at SOH a decade plus ago, when I flew an F4U and didn't even make it to Utah before I ran out of Go Juice.

Ultimately, I really wanted to see if I could gather a group of Niners together with like interests and have some fun without throwing so many Constraints into the mix that it'd either scare people away or make others angry over "well, you let this one in, but not this one", then get into a magma spewing fest over it.

I'll be honest here; I really wanted to try my hand at the RTW Race way back when, but the "White List" and the general Atmosphere of the Event first intimidated, then ultimately turned me away from participating. The last thing I wanted with this Event was to make folks feel the way I did about the RTW; that's why I made the Parameters so chill. Even with that, we had to iron a few things out before we got started so everyone was in agreement.

Just wait for the next one... it's gonna be a doozy! 🤪

Cool.  Count me in already.

This was a great idea.  I had a lot of fun, with the flight and the thread (should we have a new thread for the next flight?), so I'll be there.  And it's attracting more people, so should be even more fun.

If you fancy a long tour, here is the Africa segment of my World Capitals Tour (the only remaining map, I closed the circuit to make it a circumnavigation of the continent).  You fly over ocean, beaches, desert, rain forest, grasslands,, plains, mountains....

"Rules" I used were:

-Use the same plane for the entire flight.

-Start in any city, proceed in either direction.

-Must land in each city.

-Do as many non-stop flights as possible, necessary fuel stops are allowed.

capafri_map_sm.thumb.jpg.ecdb432fef35fa2dafdf4b0eaa79181a.jpg

Distances in mi/km, straight line, as given by online measuring site.  (Any text discrepancies are due to the quick conversion from previous map.)  Yes, there are three stops in South Africa, it has three capital cities (administrative, legislative, and judicial).

And the Howard 500 is a classic, quite exacting to fly (my first two efforts  ended with me as a grease spot in the wilderness).

As one who followed this through the tread, and intends to participate in the next, a new thread would definitely make sense.

Personal Air Tours

While I started the World Capitals Tour (it grew from the Capafri tour I first did for FS98) and made the initial route map, it became a project for about a dozen people.  We hoped to make it a challenge flight, with timetables and fuel estimates for different aircraft;  you would be given a drawing account with enough funds to pay all your landing fees and fuel for the entire flight, but if you landed on schedule the host country would waive the landing fees and refuel the aircraft, no charge.  Whoever finished with the most money left, for that particular aircraft, won bragging rights.  All flying regulations must be obeyed and real weather used.  But there was little interest so we just had fun flying the route.

Over the years maybe two or three dozen people flew the entire route (147 cities, 99000mi cumulative straight line distance) in a variety of airplanes.  Many more people flew sections of the route - South America, Europe/Scandinavia, Africa, etc.  I flew the whole circuit four times, in a P-38 with drop tanks, a Lear jet, a 737, and a Constellation.  One lady, and I must comment how few females I've seen in FS, flew the whole thing in the Hindenburg!  (in reality an airship could not reach the higher altitude airports;  Hindenburg typically cruised at 800-1000ft and ceiling was around 3000ft).  Any aircraft capable of at least 1300mi non-stop was capable of the entire trip.
