How about a simple Challenge Flight for us Niners?

Still thinking about this for whatever reason ... and ran across the attached newspaper article about the '76 race.  Perhaps call it the 'Robin Miller Invitational' (per VP's post) or something like that?

....

If we can find a list of the entrants, participants could use any aircraft that participated in the real race.

Nice assortment of aircraft;  I have many of them in FS2004, would be hard pressed to pick a favorite.

It would be interesting to limit the List to Default Aircraft only; and watch the dissenting Fireworks commence! 😋

The Libraries are rife with models of the Aircraft that participated, and easily obtained from same.

Everybody's so stuck on Speed, though... I wish we could do one just for the Route, and share individual experiences without the 'coming in First' angle.

Possible.  Emphasize the event is for comradery, comparison of aircraft and flights; the event is a tour, not a race.

And in FSX, I see a repaint in my future. Pick one of the actual participants and see how it goes.

I’m just in it to win the big bikkies. $25,000 USD of cold hard cash.

I remember when Atlantic City casinos were in their prime and one casino had a Robison R-22 over a bank of slot machines, as the progressive grand prize.

Sam and Ella Lux found an R-22 they will donate as the next challenge sponsor.

You just have to pick it up your self if you win.

We may have to change the route a little to accommodate FS9 should we follow the '76 race.  I’ve done a little homework and discovered that some of the original airports/locations don’t seem to exist.  (The attached pdf is something of a summary of my discoveries to date).

There may be some navaids en route to substitute but I’ve not gotten into that much detail.  Feel free to make corrections or suggestions.

Mention in the first post that the flight is scenic and anecdotal, and that you won't be publishing a leaderboard.

If the next flight is as popular as the last two, we'll probably all start by casually comparing our times but by page 10 of the thread we'll all have forgotten who did what and will relax into just flying for pleasure. I say 'we' and, if it happens over Christmas, I probably will join in.

If you decide on the AOPA Australia race I definitely will: I've barely visited Australia in the 14 years since I bought FS9. My daughter should be free again by then too, at least for some of the legs, which makes my end of things a lot more fun.

Route 66 seems to have been going very well as a semi-planned regularity, which goes a long way to ironing out differences between planes without the need for contentious handicaps and allows everyone to choose their own style of flying without penalty.

Here are four missing locations.

Frederick Hill has me completely stumped though -- no sign of Frederick Hill, Vic or NSW.

Thanks defaid.  This event could be simple as 1).  Here's the route.  2). Try to leave Jandakot by the ________.  3). Share your experiences along the way.  4). Try to end up in Bankstown by the ________.

This is where a copy of Plan-G comes in handy. It gives one a 'World' view of the Sim on your HD and all of the Default Airports contained within, along with any other Scenery you've added.

Wish we had a participant or two who are learned in Scenery Design...

I have my Cherokee ready.

It's an approach I like -- a bit like the original Peking to Paris: "There were no rules in the race, except that the first car to Paris would win the prize of a magnum of Mumm champagne."

That's why the 'proving Flights' work so well; everyone can give the proposed Format a try, and post their opinions about the Format. We tweak it a little, then give it another try.

Are any of those missing available as addons?  My first foray into scenery creation was to make a couple of missing airports for my world caps tour (nothing noteworthy, just a properly oriented runway with a fuel stand and ADF).

A Runway, small FBO building, Windsock, Fuel Stand and maybe an NDB would be all that's needed. The FBO could be deleted but would add to the Immersion factor.

Go for it.  It's been so long since I've created any scenery (recently had to get advice on creating a simple flatten, lol).

Updated list attached ... I think all missing fields in FS9 were Overfly's on the original route but folks might still enjoy popping in for a snack and use the loo.  Whatever you think best.  Still at a loss for Frederick Hill.
