HoratioWondersocks
Hello All When I get my PC back tomorrow, the first thing I want to do is to make sure I have two copies of my fs9 installation. My question 1. If I install a clean installation of 9 from my original four disks into my new Cdrive and then copy and paste my fully backed up copy over the new installation will that function normally? Question two. If I were to copy and paste my fully backed version from my ssd into my new Cdrive WITHOUT first installing a clean installation from my original disks. Would THAT work? It would certainly be quicker than my first option in question one. Thanks all I await the whirring of grey matter. Andrew
mrzippy
The only thing about a copy and paste of the flightsim onto the new drive would be maybe missing some hidden things that get put into your registry. Trying that with FSX never worked. It had to be a full installation. Certain things can be pasted over like Effects, Gauges, Aircraft, and maybe Scenery. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
johnhinson
In my experience, it can be done. There is a Registry Repair tool available from Flight One. The only items that I think you may encounter issues with will be commercial add-ons with custom registration procedures - you will need to register them again. I've only encountered this with sceneries but I am told a few specialised aircraft use this method too. John http://www.adventure-unlimited.org My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! JSMR
Whatever you decide, have one full install in the C drive. From the disks. I use one as a test and backup of the default folders etc. But mostly because some aircraft and scenery will only install on the default location. If you have some copies on a D drive like me, you can’t install them. Annoying. So having an original installed in the default location allows you to install those tricky ones. But you need to create some dummy folders screnery, texture, add on scenery, modules, effects etc so you can see where everything goes to copy it across. Not as difficult as it sounds. https://fshub.io/airline/RUA/overview
HoratioWondersocks
Thanks to all for helping. Just to say I used to have two copies of Fs9 on my PC. One in the Cdrive and one on an external ssd (a backup) Unfortunately the Cdrive died taking with it that particular installation of 9. I now only have thebackup on my external Fdrive ssd. So what I have decided to do before anything else is to reinstall an original copy of Fs9 into my new Cdrive and THEN copy and paste my full backup over that new installation. Iam sure I have done this before in the past, and it worked, but just wanted to be sure by picking the brains of the knowledgeable here at Fscom. HoratioWondersocks
Hello All I am happy to say no reinstallation required. And no copying and pasting either. A local PC technician managed to save all my data (including FS9)which was then transferred onto a new ssd. I am happy to say that I am just about back to were I was before my original hard drive died. Flying tonight for nearly to weeks and have to say I didn't half miss it. Cheers all for your help.
