Iron Horse
Good morning all! Here is my question. I have a plane that I would like to do island hops out in the Pacific. I know how long my plane can fly (which is not all that long), so I have been plotting my hops to islands that have fuel. This is very time consuming as when one zooms out on both the gps and/or the maps, several of the airports, of which some have fuel disappear. I have to resort to: go to an area, zoom in until something (or nothing) shows up, do this repeatedly and plot my course accordingly. This is very frustrating. Is there a better way of knowing which airports have fuel without all this trial and error? I don't have any particular destination in mind, just out seeing the sights. If that puts anything into perspective. Thank you for your time, and hope everyone is covid free!
Jim Robinson
You could use Plan G to do your flight planning, if you right click an airport in Plan G and do "show airport diagram" you'll see fueling areas show up as a yellow dot.
tgibson_new
And keep in mind that just because an airport doesn't have fuel, that doesn't mean you can't get the local fuel company to get you some cans of gas and pour them in yourself (i.e. use the Aircraft/Fuel menu). Don't even need refuelling, when you do it `on the fly`. Topping off, or complete refill, at the click of a button...
Iron Horse
Good afternoon! Thank you for responding. I could fuel up as was suggested, but where is the fun in that?😄😄 Jim, could you explain a "plan G" and how to use it, please? I have never heard of such a thing (Par for my course😒). Tom, I have had do do such a thing when the airport had a fuel depot, and no matter how I positioned the aircraft, the darned thing wouldn't refuel! But if I can, I would prefer to use a fuel stop if possible. By the way, I downloaded your Santa Fe rendition of the Douglas DC-4. Beautiful aircraft! Thanks! ianhr
Check out Skyvector.com for flight planning and airport info. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Jim Robinson
Jim, could you explain a "plan G" and how to use it, please? I have never heard of such a thing (Par for my courseí ½í¸’). No problem mate: It's a mapping program and it scans your FS scenery to put all your airports on the map. You can make flight plans with it that you can load into the sim just like the ones you make with the flight planner inside the sim. The sim doesn't need to be running, but if it is Plan-G can connect to it and show your aircraft on the map as it follows the flight plan. Anyway if you right click an airport on the map and select "show airport diagram" it shows fueling areas as a yellow dot, see here: (Click on the images to "bigger" 'em) Here's another one showing the flight planner part of it: Plan-G is free, you can get it here: https://www.tasoftware.co.uk/ Jim Edited April 26, 2020 by Jim Robinson
sobor
Little Navmap is better. Little steeper learning curve but gives much more information.
