Elsewhere we had a small discussion regarding the pros and cons of freeware vs payware, and I mentioned that I did like freeware, so I thought I'd better prove it, so here's a few screenshots of freeware that I use on a regular basis and enjoy a lot. Both aircraft and ground textures are freeware in these shots.

We saw earlier where von Peerhoven was living, well, this is where I live, at least part of the time, Hoeilaart, in Belgium, with the Mirage IIIC of Restauravia overhead:

same Mirage, different paintjob, over the Tasmania freebee from Orbx:

talking about Orbx freebees, this is Iceland, with the LDR Ryan Navion in an icelandic paintjob:

Default P3D P-38 in 1st FG colors over freeware Marche, Italy, by Mazzokan:

different paintjobs, same region:

One outstanding source for freeware is Milton Shupe, who produced a fantastic range of freeware aircraft. This is his Martin B-26 Marauder, in a French paintjob, approaching the Etna in Sicily.

and another paintjob, somewhere over Sicily photoreal by Mazzokan

46271149465_03a1a5ddac_h.jpgjk8524

another one by Milton, the Douglas A-20 Havoc, somewhere near Charleroi photoreal. Not sure where I found these ground textures of Belgium, but they were freeware.

Another source of great freeware is Manfred Jahn and his team, and I like their C-97 a lot, here over Tasmania:

and especially their C-47 with the vintage cockpit:

One more C-47, back over Belgium:

On sim-outhouse, you'll find this very aggressive looking P-61:

I haven't gotten it to work in P3D yet, but the Goose is also a very nice bird:

29470630448_231141bcc3_o.jpgss10544

as is the B-25 Mitchell from Roy Chaffin:

44661943651_33d90d66e9_h.jpgjk4712

and lets not forget the wonderful models by Dave Garwood, including this Hawker Hunter:

and finally, possibly my favorite freeware bird, the Grumman Duck by Paul Domingue:

42512625665_f374047420_h.jpgjk0588

so no, you don't really need payware to enjoy yourself, and my apologies for the shameless plug of my repaints (which are also all free)

Excellent exposé. Yes, there is plenty of fine freeware stuff to be had. Your repaints feature highly in that pantheon.

No need to be ashamed of promoting your wares. Your repaints are legion and works of fine art. Thank you -- Bob

it seems I put in the wrong link for the version fro Murphy's war.

This is the right one: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?linkid=19519&catid=37

Thank you, that's more like it. The first link was an FS9 model. Actually your repaint is better than the stock repaints supplied with the original package you linked.

Best wishes.
