Dxtr
Hello, I've tried some tweaks including FSSuperTweaker (FSST) but I still can't get good balance with Performance/Quality. In FSST there is 3 modes - for Low-End pc, Mid-Range and Gamer-pc I've tried all of them. So on Low-End setting Fps was around 20-25 but picture quality was poor. Mid-Range - stable 20 FPS, picture quality - Better but still not good enough. Gamer-Pc setting - 15-20 FPS, Quality - I was expecting more. In further distances ground is totally blurried out. I was using 757 FREEMIUM, but lack of performance was even on standard 737. On few screensots there is FPS shown. Screensots were taken On MID-RANGE setting in FSST Screenshots - http://s7.postimg.org/yerrnhysb/2015_11_09_00001.jpg http://s13.postimg.org/gdrx5d4pj/2015_11_09_00002.jpg http://s29.postimg.org/kxeq4liw7/2015_11_09_00005.jpg http://s24.postimg.org/y81761q9x/2015_11_09_00004.jpg I have tried deleting my fsx.cfg and make some tweaks with Bojote's tweaking guide and It didn't changed anything almost, cuz I'm not sure what to change, how big numbers i should put in, maybe there is someone who could help me with that, please? This is how my config looks like with the FSST on MID-Range pc setup. // This Steam Edition FSX config Tweaked by FSSuperTweaker on 09.11.2015 22:53:57 // FSSuperTweaker is brought to you by HawgDawg4life of msflights.net. // Stop by for support or to visit anytime... (i3 2100 + hd5850) like this type and they were making movies with REX, ORBX, PMDG's or Airbus X with stable 30 fps and movie looked really smooth. ScatterbrainKid
I don't use Super Tweaker and I don't mess with config files and stuff, and FSX runs smooth as silk on my cheap laptop, it looks good and the framerates are fine. Try juggling the standard ingame display options on the screens below- http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/sub2/FSX-frame4_zpsrobxrbsm.jpg~original http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/sub2/FSX-Graphs_zpswyqgkwao.jpg~original
mrzippy
Because of your slow CPU speed, I would do these changes to the FSX.cfg. ScatterbrainKid
A neat trick to give your display a little more bite is to go to World> Weather> Customise, and slide your Visibility slider to the right to get rid of mist and haze- http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/sub2/FSX-visib_zpsykjfadmr.jpg~original For example below is a shot of NY with the Vis slider set to about 30 miles- http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/sub2/FSX-vis1_zpswo3svift.jpg~original And this is with the Vis slider at 'Unlimited', notice how it gets rid of the haze and makes the whole scene sharper- http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/sub2/FSX-vis2_zpsn3r0ahpp.jpg~original
CptCaveman
Top tips for better frame rates; 1. ) Bloom - Major FPS impact when disabled, should be off if you need fps. 2 .) Water Effects - Generally best to be kept at 2xLow for best performance 3. ) Autogen Density - Start at "normal" before going any higher, major fps impact! I don't like a horizon that has no haze. Too sharp a cutoff from ground to sky..
bdf369
AC_SELF_SHADOW should be 0 unless you use DX10 GROUND_SHADOWS should always be 0 All fsx.cfg should have (perhaps not for FSX:SE since I heard they fixed this): [GRAPHICS] HIGHMEMFIX=1 The above suggestion of TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=2048 is a good idea Also from above, AUTOGEN_DENSITY=3 is a good idea, it will also help to avoid OOM and make your sim more stable and less prone to crash. I would keep Anisotropic filtering on for good image quality.
ScatterbrainKid
I think it looks more realistic with the haze though.. I don't like a horizon that has no haze. Too sharp a cutoff from ground to sky.. Me too, I usually set it to 30 miles visibility. HEY Dxtr- your 4 screenshots in your opening post look about normal to me for a plane flying high over a city, yet you say they're "poor quality". I'm not sure what zoom level you're using, but a good way of crisping them up is to use a zoom level of about 0.50 or 0.60 (I use 0.60 because I find it to be the most realistic and the sun and moon look just the right size). By contrast zoom 1.00 is much too far zoomed in, which may be why your distant scenery looks blurry.
Dxtr
Ok. Im going to try ALL your recomendations and lets see how much my FSX will change.
E-Buzz
I know some of you is going to say that my CPU is not able to handle this game or AMD gpus are not optimised for this game etc etc but I have seen people with system wich wasn't better than main (i3 2100 + hd5850) like this type and they were making movies with REX, ORBX, PMDG's or Airbus X with stable 30 fps and movie looked really smooth. I can't Even Hit 30fps without any addons... My eyes aren't the best, but I agree with ScatterbrainKid that your pictures don't look bad and what would be expected from "stock" scenery. I would caution you against using posted videos as a benchmark for what to expect. Many of them add post-processing, etc., to make them appear as nice as possible. Heck, even some posted screenshots here have been modified to look as good as possible - and there are some beautiful, stunning screenies that are really photorealistic! Try the advice given by those who have posted so far - I agree that some of your cfg settings may be a bit much for your current CPU, but I'm running boxed-FSX, not FSX-SE, and am unsure of all the differences between the two. I feel that sometimes, some of these "FSX optimizers" are a compromise. I'm not saying they are bad, just saying that sometimes what they do (tweaks) could be found on forums such as these for free, and you know exactly what was done to your computer. And they sometimes trade one thing (ex: image quality) for another (ex: faster frame rates). I do have to say that Steve's DX10 fixer (pay version) has been one of the best addons for my particular computer and my particular installation of FSX. I understand that trying to get FSX to look as good as you want to can be very, very challenging depending on your expectations. I'm in the same boat ;) Good luck, E-Buzz :pilot: i5 4690k @ 4.7gHz (Water-cooled), 8GB ram, GTX 960 2GB, 850 EVO 1 TB SSD, 50" LED TV + 2x27" monitors, Thrustmaster HOTAS, Win 8.1 Pro, P3DV4, TrackIR, EZDOK, a bunch of Orbx stuff, a chair, a hacked-up desk, and a cold drink. MBKHOU
Looks about how I would expect for that CPU. Seems fairly close to how my old phenom IIx4 used to look and run. But I did get pretty high frame rates if using a default plane and high scenery settings. But using the NGX took a pretty good bite out of the frame rate. You can't go by any of my videos, as most all were rendered at a constant frame rate. Even my older videos made with the AMD were pretty smooth. But the scenery was only dense if not running the NGX. Using the NGX, I didn't have enough VAS left to run too dense of scenery. My i7 4790 videos have much denser scenery than my old AMD videos, particularly if running the NGX. I'm running Global and Vector at max autogen and scenery density. So it's gonna look a good bit different than default scenery, being all the textures are different, and the autogen more dense than default. BTW, I never alter any of my still images or videos. What you see is what I see when flying, only slightly worse due to the compression.. :D I never use any of the video editing tricks.. I'm more interested in the flying part anyway... Not really trying to make any kind of artistic statement as far as videos.
fkarste
Hello everybody, I tried several times to set the best graphics configuration on a fresh installed FSX, but I´m not satisfied with results. Now it´s imposible to link venetubo.com/fsx.html. My PC specs are following: Processor: Intel® Core i7-2600 CPU 3.40 GHz RAM: 16 GB System: Windows 7 Vista Premium 64-bit GPU: EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 HDD: SAMSUNG HE103UJ ATA 1TB Please give me following instructions, how to set my FSX display and FSX.CFG file for best fps. Thanks
Yajvan
what you can do is download razer cortex(game booster), set your battery life to high performance, reduce the cloud draw distance, use a shrinker(It can increase your FPS by 20), disable sounds, disable shadows. Rupert
How about traffic? The more traffic in the air and on the surface, the more the CPY needs to do. Unless you're looking for an aircraft carrier or similar, you don't need many boats or ships. Unless you're flying pretty low you don't need a lot of traffic on the highway either. Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
il88pp
fkarste, Noone can give you a fsx.cfg for your specific system. It doesn't work like that. It depends on to many factors. You can reset the fsx.cfg to default by shutting down fsx, removing the fsx.cfg file, and then starting fsx. Renaming the file will do it too, and that way you have a backup of the file just in case. You asked this question in three threads now. It was fully answered in this one: In that same thread is a link to "Kosta's Guide". That guide contains tips on changes to the fsx.cfg file. https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?276422-Venetubo-FSX-CFG-Tweaker-HTTP-404 Please don't start multiple threads about the same thing. Dxtr
Ok now. I deleted my fsx.cfg and made new one. Now I'm getting really good fps in average cities (about 40-70 unlimited) with some other guy config, but the problem is - first maybe 25 kilometers on the ground look more or less well, but further its totally blurred out. Dxtr
Yea, I know. I made this post several times because I had my old system, now I have much better pc compared to old one. As I said I don't really know how to use Kostas tweaking guide(what numbers put in etc.) but Bojote's tweak tool (venetubo) is down.
il88pp
Use the sliders and checkboxes in fsx. In the Settings-Display menu. Each page of settings has a 'help' button that explains the things on that page. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Dxtr
I Really can't understand this game. Since my last session in FSX with 757 In Riga airport (EVRA) I was getting stable 30+ fps. Today after launching FSX in the same airport with same 757 and without any other addons or fsx.cfg changes im getting 5-6 FPS! Its Totally Disgusting to play. I Even turned AA and AF off and still 5-6 fps..... FFS!!!! .. :@ I bought this game on steam because I've heard people who said It's much better optimised now. I played this game for about 40 hours and most of the time I've been looking for tutorials how to optimize this game. And Last time when i was getting 30+ fps i thought finally I'll be able to get some scenery and plane addons but I think I've changed my mind. And I don't want to buy Monster PC for like 1000+ euros to play FSX.
