scottb613
Hi Folks, Departure: Martin State Airport Baltimore, Maryland, USA Destination: Adirondack Regional Airport Saranac Lake, New York, USA Haven't done this in a while... A hard IFR flight into the heart of the Adirondacks on Sunday evening... A revenue flight from the suburbs of Baltimore MD into Saranac Lake NY... Weather was forecast as pretty poor and it didn't disappoint - so you definitely need a plane up to the task - can't ask for much better than a Lear even if it is 1970's technology... KCD
Welcome back, Scott, long time no see! Very nice post. Great airplane, loved the panel... well laid out and readable, imagine that! Well done, my friend.
scottb613
Hi Klee, Nice to see friendly faces still here - - - yeah - - - I definitely do this in spurts - LOL - as I have since I guess 2005 according to my join date - which appears the same as yours... I've been poking around for a bit - seems the volume of traffic is way off around here from what I remember - seems kind of slow... Yeah - I picked up this plane and I just can't get enough of it - it's an extremely well done package - and - has earned a spot right up there with my beloved Digital Aviation Piper Cheyenne (which I still fly often)... Rupert
Great Shots Scott! And the METAR Report was a great addition as well. Michael Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
scottb613
Hi Michael, Thanks for the comments... Yeah - I try to be as realistic as practical when planning flights... In case you don't have it - that's "FlightPlan GO" - they have clients for iPad, Android, and PC - connects to Xplane, FSX, and P3D - fully functional EFB and the only source of totally free georeferenced approach plates that I know of - only caveat - I think you can only get it in North America... Have a good day... Regards, Scott

scottb613
Hi Bill, It's Flysimware's Lear - a totally underrated little jewel in my book... I truly can't get enough of it... It's a pilots plane... Thanks for the comments... Regards, Scott Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
NMLW
Excellent work with this flight Scott. The Learjet is a very nice bird and I really like those panel shots. The dusk sky colors top it all off.  :D Larry
LJ45man
Awesome bird Scott. Thanks for the idea for a great flight. I might try it from 2W6 (St. Marys Regional, also known as Capt. Walter Francis Duke Regional) in St. Mary's County Md which is not too far from KMTN!
scottb613
Hi Folks, Thanks for the comments - yeah - feels good to be back in the saddle again... I pick all my locations off the ORBX Freeware Airports map - at least for those I don't have payware for... https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=16TLldaoxxmFv7wOWfYyM8zV-bgM&ll=19.068416143889852%2C0&z=2 All the "red" markers are free airports that have been improved - and they're improved enough to actually make visits enjoyable... Plenty to choose from - LOL - just try and visit them all... While ORBX can be pretty darn expensive - it's nice to see them give something back... flyboy208
Hi Scott, always cool to see real world procedures and wx flightplanning being done in the Sim. Great snaps of your Learjet. Flew in a real Lear 24 about 18 years ago ... what a blast ! Mike [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
adamb
Great looking shots and plane Scott and welcome back!!! :) I have a few of the Flysimware's planes and with every model they seem to improve texture wise, inside and out. I may have to get the Lear when it's on sale. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
scottb613
Hi Folks, Thanks for the comments... More of the class of 2005 (didn't they lose all our user account information a long time ago during some upgrade and everyone had a reset - I'm pretty sure I was here before then)... Dang - I forgot to include the shot of the Geo-Referenced Approach Plate with the aircraft superimposed on it - it makes flying procedures - oh so easy... Yeah - my CFI was a freight dog out of Bradley CT when I was taking lessons - he flew this plane hauling "bank checks" if I recall correctly (never understood the urgency) - normally into Midway and some other place in the central US... On my night cross country we stopped at Bradley and he gave me a tour of the plane... At 6' 5" what impressed me most was how freak'n small and tight they are on the inside... Climbing into the cockpit was tough for me... Enjoyed it - would have enjoyed a ride like yours - Mike - even more... Adam - yeah - noticed the same - this was my first experience with Flysimware - as I always thought the visuals were - meh... I am so happy I did - while the visuals might be a notch below the top companies out their (they're pretty darn good on this model) - their systems, flight model, and performance - are a notch above... While I've had biz jets from the company that shall remain nameless - they were nothing but exercises in frustration - an FMC equipped plane unable to perform a Direct To ??? What's the point ? This one has been a joy since it's first flight - as things just work as they should... The custom autopilot is a work of art and all the buttons actually FUNCTION... They seem to have 50% sales often - which I utilized and now I feel like I stole it... If you do get it - there is a panel graphics upgrade that I utilized on their site... Also you need to get the LUA scripts from Al over on AvSim - as they give full button control to the AP... On a plane that leaps off the ground at greater than 4000 FPM - you need all the help you can get - things happen FAST... Regards, Scott

Rupert
Great stuff Scott - thanks for the steer to FlightPlan Go - +1 FlightPlan Go is a truly neat app!! Man, being a flyer from the 60's, we never even dreamed of GPS much less an App like this!!:p 90% or more of flight planning time was spent shuffling huge stacks of paper. Then trying to condense the info in a usable manner onto a knee board. Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
azzaro
Great looking Lear! Currently on sale for half price. :D Thanks for the views and review Scott. I was torn as to whether to buy or not, as the screencaps available were quite coarse and unappealing. After seeing your post I loosened my pursestrings ever so little... and got it. scottb613
Hi Michael, I only started around 2000 or so - and the changes I've seen are pretty phenomenal - all I had installed in the panel above your typical VOR/NDB was a Northstar Loran unit - no moving maps... It did connect to Century I autopilot - so at least I had lateral navigation via the autopilot - it actually worked pretty well.... I did load my very first moving map on my Pocket PC (Palm like device) for some better situational awareness.... Hi Bob, Great - I hope you like it... Suggest you head over to the Flysimware forum hosted on AvSim - send Al ("ark") (just search for LUA if you don't see him) a PM with your email address asking for his LUA scripts and the Warning Panel Indicator Fix - then - head over to the actual Flysimware website and look in their download library for the "Panel Improvement" file someone kindly made - all necessary in my book... If you have any trouble - just PM me - gladly help with anything I can... Regards, Scott Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

scottb613
Hi Bernardo, Hah - thanks for your comments too - and always a pleasure to see you post... I've been following your Bahamas saga like a hawk... Some day I hope to make that flight for real in a SEL - but it's quite the haul from NY at 110 knots... The Bahamas are truly like a flight to mecca for us East Coast pilots... Someday... Regards, Scott
jiva602
Hello Scott, I've been looking into this plane and have searched reviews and comments in several places but this thread has provided me with the best info I've found so far. Thanks for the additional Lua script tips and improvements. I am pretty new to sim and some of the tweaking can be a bit overwhelming or, at very least, a little perplexing:confused:. I am more of an A2A prop guy but have wanted a biz jet and think this will be good for me. Thanks for sharing your exerience and enthusiasm with us new guys :D Jiva
