/images/notams/notams22/gold0206.jpgStearman Aircraft developed the Model 4 from the C3, adding a deeperfuselage and offering a range of more powerful engines. These featuresenabled the Model 4 to carry heavier cargo loads. Being larger than the C3,but smaller than the M-2 and LT-1 models, it filled a gap in the Stearmanproduct line. Designer Lloyd Stearman said that it was the best airplane heever designed. Our representation of this iconic aircraft is fully animated with tooltips active in the VC cockpit for all animated parts. It is fully compatiblewith all versions of P3D as well as FSXA and FSX Steam Edition. /images/notams/notams21/stea0521/stearman-1.jpgFor those of you waiting for news on the Tomcats, the wait will beover soon! I've pushed on with completing the Stearman this week as itwas so close to being release-ready that I felt it would be better tofinish it off and get it into the hands of fans. As a result, this has been a week of adding color schemes, ironingout minor remaining bugs and of course distributing to my testteam. Copies of the Stearman will soon be sent to selected YouTubereviewers who might be interested in this aircraft, which will allowinterested folks to see if the airplane is right for them and ofcourse spread the word of its imminent release. Right now, I'm doingsome final checks and then next week will finish writing the manualand compiling the paint kit that will come with the Stearman. SimAcoustics are just finishing up with the custom sounds, which wererecorded live from Stearman PH-TOX, the color scheme for which isincluded in the package - you can't get more authentic than that! /images/notams/notams21/stea0521/stearman-2.jpgThe package will come with six liveries, each of which is shown inthe accompanying screen shots. There are three military (USAAF, USNand RCAF) and three modern, civilian schemes. The modern schemes willfeature Asobo crews aboard in the published version, while themilitary schemes will call a custom World War Two era crew tomatch. Those who know how will be able to alter the aircraft.cfg ifthey wish to change this set-up, but I'm sure it will be right formost users. Microsoft have readied my MSFS Marketplace store, everything is setto go, and Just Flight are being sent images and specs this afternoonin readiness for the launch on third-party sites. The price for thePT-17 Stearman will be around $14.99, which seems to me to be aboutright for an aircraft such as this and compares well with other suchtypes that are available. /images/notams/notams21/stea0521/stearman-4.jpg /images/notams/notams21/stea0521/stearman-3.jpgAs soon as the Stearman is launched, the workload will shift 100%to the F-14 Tomcat. The Tomcat launch date is now looking likemid-July 2021, possibly earlier if things go especially well. Those of you who own the F-15 Eagles should have receivednotification of the latest update to that package this week, which isnow v1.0.3 (a tiny bug in the F-15D cockpit was fixed fromv1.0.2). The next Eagles update will come later in 2021, and will nowmostly focus on improvements to systems and textures, both in terms offidelity and hopefully performance. Source

/images/notams/notams21/dcde0509/dcdesigns-1.jpgThe F-15 updates are complete now, all except one tiny but hugelyfrustrating bug causing the nose wheel animation to “skipâ€. Despitebest efforts, the solution to this has not been found, and it mightpossibly be a bug in the SDK that is causing it (likely only forusers of Blender). This has not been confirmed as I write this, butin the absence of any other logical cause, it must be something withincode somewhere over which I have no control, as there are aircraftproduced with 3DS Max with oleo-wheel arrangements that don’t sufferthe same issue. As a result of this, the F-15 update will appear next week insteadas I’m hoping to find a way around the bug, possibly by writing my ownLvar for the nosewheel. That does however cause issues later down theline with any features in MSFS that are tied to the nosewheeltemplate, so I’d like to wait and see if Asobo can root out the causeof the issue or I can solve it myself. /images/notams/notams21/dcde0509/dcdesigns-2.jpgWith the F-15 updates otherwise complete, work continues on theStearman to prepare it for launch. The flight model and engine filesare complete, so it’s now down to finer-detail modelling and texturingwork, as well as adding new colour schemes. Custom sound is underwayover at Sim Acoustics, who have recorded true live sound from PT-17Stearman PH-TOX, so everything from the engine to the primer leverwill sound as it does on the real aircraft. The F-14 Tomcats are also of course being worked upon, although ata slower pace while the F-15s were being updated. From next week itwill be full-steam ahead on both projects as they head toward theirrespective launch dates. Finally, there is a single extra image in the screenshots for todayand no, it’s not a quick port but a shot of the properly convertedaircraft taken during a brief test flight two evenings ago to assesshow well the process is working. The assessment was that there will bea genuine major re-build of the aircraft to bring it up to MSFSstandard, so it’s going to be almost as big a project as the originalwas. Work will start after the Tomcats are released, probablytherefore somewhere in June / early July. /images/notams/notams21/dcde0509/dcdesigns-3.jpgSource Purchase DC Designs F-15 Eagle For MSFS, Prepar3D or FSX Purchase DC Designs Concorde for FSX/P3D

/images/notams/notams20/gold0630/gold0630.jpgThe C3 was a rugged biplane with simple straight wings, a toughundercarriage with oleo shock absorbers and two open cockpits with thepilot in the rear and two side-by-side passenger seats in thefront. In fact, it was a slightly modified version of the earliermodel C2 aircraft. Changes included an increased volume oil tank andlarger sized baggage compartment. The C3 was powered by a variety of engines of between 128 hp and225 hp, each version having its own designation. The last version ofthe C3 was the C3R which had several external differences including acutout in the aft portion of the wing center section for improvedpilot visibility, a headrest in the aft cockpit, and slightlyincreased chord of the rudder and vertical stabilizer. Although therewere several versions of the C3, most were either the C3B or theC3R. /images/notams/notams20/gold0630/stearman-1.jpgThe C3 was built with light commercial applications in mind, including passenger flying and business flights. Another idyllic flight spoiled by runway elevation issues. It was a lovely flight to Bowerman in my classic Stearman. Until... On short final I noticed the misalignment in runway textures and knew it would not end well. Still, it was a perfect all-point landing. :p -- Bob Could someone come and dig me out please. :o
