dogdish
With FS 2020 needing a fast Gigabyte connection for good results, thought it was time to replace my reliable Motorola SB5101 Read to stay away from any modems with a Intel Puma chipset, such as a ARRIS SB6190. Don't need or want WIFI or router capabilities. So narrowed it down to these 3... ARRIS SB8200 SURFboard or MOTOROLA MB8600 or NETGEAR CM1000 Anybody recommend these or other? loki
Note that the Asobo developers have indicated that a 4 Mb/s connection is enough for a good level of detail, and 10 Mb/s or so is enough for the full experience. If you have a 15 Mb/s or faster connection already, you should be good to go (though more may be required depending on how many others you're sharing the connection with). dogdish
Thanks Loki, Just did a Speakeasy Speed Test and get about 26~28 Mb/s, so good as is. However whenever I try to play a on-line shooter ie GTA V, I get out sniped :o probably because everybody has a faster connection. Milliseconds means life or death I guess. So still want to get a faster modem and at the very least, help the economy Gigabyte GA-X99 Gaming G1, i7-5960X, Noctua NH-D14, Crucial Ballistix Elite 64Gb, Nvidia GTX Titan X, Creative ZxR, Ableconn PEXM2-130, WD Black SN750 250Gb & 2Tb NVMe/Gold 10Tb HDD, Sony BDU-X10S BD-ROM, PC Power & Cooling 1200w, Cosmos C700M, Noctua iPPC 140mm x6, Logitech M570/K800, WinX64 7 Ultimate/10 Pro

CRJ_simpilot
Your Internet speed is fine, you don't need a new modem. Yes, a ping may be at issue with sniping. But it could be the player. LOL OOM errors? Read this. What the squawk? An awesome weather website with oodles of Info. and options. Wile E. Coyote would be impressed. dogdish
...But it could be the player. LOL Yes... need all the advantage I can get. :) Found this comparison of all three and decided to go with Motorola MB8600. Power button is a big plus for me so I can turn it off when not on-line. Also looks like it has a well ventilated case. https://stickystatic.com/tech/sb8200-vs-mb8600 Can find it much cheaper then Amazon though Gigabyte GA-X99 Gaming G1, i7-5960X, Noctua NH-D14, Crucial Ballistix Elite 64Gb, Nvidia GTX Titan X, Creative ZxR, Ableconn PEXM2-130, WD Black SN750 250Gb & 2Tb NVMe/Gold 10Tb HDD, Sony BDU-X10S BD-ROM, PC Power & Cooling 1200w, Cosmos C700M, Noctua iPPC 140mm x6, Logitech M570/K800, WinX64 7 Ultimate/10 Pro
dogdish
Also, regarding ping. Remembering the movie Gamer where they talked about it. Thought ping was ping, didn't know it could be improved though. Must look into it. dogdish
Well Microsoft finally posted system requirements and looks like 50Mb/s is the "Ideal" bandwidth... loki
Well Microsoft finally posted system requirements and looks like 50Mb/s is the "Ideal" bandwidth... There's likely a fair bit of leeway built into the bandwidth requirements to allow for things like other people in the house watching Netflix as well as poor connections. When it comes to online gaming, ping and latency are often more important than pure bandwidth. Current satellite internet connections may have decent bandwidth but poor latency (due to the extra distance the data has to travel) and aren't suitable for fast paced gaming. On the other hand, a solid 15 Mbps DSL connection with low latency could be great. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellite_Internet_access#Signal_latency For the new sim, faster will certainly be better. A new modem may help, if your old one was the bottleneck, however, there is a good chance any speed issues are elsewhere on your ISP's network too. alaskancrab
latency is the addition of distance in a medium and signalling speed. A satellite signal travels much faster, than the same signal on fiber optic or cable. And at the same time 150mbit signal will only need a 1/10th of the time to send the same signal as a 15mbit. And those are just the things you can hold constant :)
CRJ_simpilot
While signals in space travel faster, that doesn't mean there's no latency. Between the Sat link you connect to on uplink and being processed in the satellite and then downlinked to the receiving station and sent over several servers, you'll end up with high latency. I know this first hand with two gamers that had satellite connections. While the speed is alright, the latency was not something you'd want while gaming. Plus with satellite Internet there are bandwidth caps. OOM errors? Read this. What the squawk? An awesome weather website with oodles of Info. and options. Wile E. Coyote would be impressed. dogdish
OP, go here and share your result please. https://speedof.me Here's mine using a VPN. HAHA! https://i.speedof.me/200422201932-272 Had this Motorola MB8600 for about a week now. When I got it I was shocked to only see 1 RJ-45 port on rear when there was suppose to be 4! However, by default there is a cover over the other 3 and is easily removable. I left it on though because I won't be port bonding probably ever. https://i.speedof.me/200517054357-839 I have the 150 Mb/s COX service which is plenty fast enough for FS 2020 and anything I need now.
