jimfrench
I have read and tried the article on saving CFG files in FSX Windows 10, but I still get a message that I can't save the modified CFG file in Airplanes (any default plane) because I am not "an administrator." My Windows 10 settings says I am the administrator. Would appreciate any help you can render. Jim French
CRJ_simpilot
I'm wondering if this is due to you installing to the programs folder and not the root of C drive instead. OOM errors? Read this. What the squawk? An awesome weather website with oodles of Info. and options. Wile E. Coyote would be impressed.
napamule2
Yep, installed in 'Program Files' will do that. You could try Right Click on aircraft.cfg, then 'Copy, then 'Paste' (into Desktop). When on Desktop, dbl click to open or right click and choose 'Open With' then 'Notepad'. Edit it. Then when still in Notepad, choose 'Save As', then navigate to where the cfg belongs, click on aircraft.cfg (at original location) then click 'Save', then 'Yes' to 'overwrite'. That should do it as a work around. There is one more thing: Right Click your aircraft.cfg and choose 'Properties', then ck to see if it's 'Blocked'. Click on 'UnBlock', then 'Apply', then 'OK' to change the attribute, which might help although not sure if that makes too much difference one way or the other with Win10. dogdish
Try right clicking your notepad.exe (Or whatever it is your using to open the .cfg files with) and "Run as administrator" FIRST. Then navigate to and open the .cfg file. You may have to change the dialog box to open all file types. See if you can save it. jorgen.s.andersen
You can also turn UAC on or off as desired by using a freeware utility called TweakUAC. Jorgen
tiger1962
You can also set yourself as the administrator of any folder on your system, including program files/program files (x86), in this way: Navigate to the folder, e.g. Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Games. Right-click on the folder and select Properties. In the Properties window, select the Security tab. In the Group or user names menu, select Users (Your Name\Users) and click the Edit... button. In the Permissions for Users menu, in the Allow list, tick every box that isn't ticked already and click the Apply button. Then click the OK button on each open window to close them. That's all folks! I've set myself as administrator of my folders for FSX, FS2004, FSGRW, Radar Contact, FSPassengers, and many others such as Photoshop like this. It was necessary for those even in C:\ with Windows 10 Pro x64. I leave UAC alone, and any other Windows 10 default security settings, and have no problems editing and saving files in the folders and locations where I've set myself as the administrator.
