Is this another Wright Brothers moment, or merely a kid's toy? Should the turbofan/jet industry be worried by this? Will all the Trekkies be saying "We TOLD you so!" ;)

From what I've seen so far, it's showing the possibility, but I suspect the practicality for future replacement of aircraft power is a long ways off. It requires a lot of electric power, and our battery tech is nowhere nearly good enough yet for that to be practical. But it's great to see another principal demonstrated, which may spur something, not necessarily aviation, in future development.

Larry, if it could power Marty McFly's hover board in real life I think THAT would be enough...

...but what would you use for brakes?
